ALFRED GREGORY Alfred Gregory first saw Mt Everest in 1952 during an expedition led by Eric Shipton. In 1953 he was selected as a climbing member of the British expedition led by John Hunt to attempt the first ascent of the mountain and he reached 8500 metres in support of Ed Hillary and Tenzing Norgay’s successful summit attempt. He was also the official stills photographer for the expedition and his images convey the incredible beauty of the Himalaya in an era when the area was still a pristine environment. His awareness of the need to present the story as an art form was always of great importance to him.

NICK BRANDT RANGER WITH TUSKS OF KILLED ELEPHANT AMBOSELI 2011 3/10 | 56 X 70 INCH 142 X 178 CM

NICK BRANDT Born in London and now living in the US, Nick Brandt is easily one of our most remarkable and collected modern day photographers. After directing Michael Jackson’s ‘Earth Song’ video in Kenya and Tanzania, Brandt was compelled to present a complex and deep portrait of African wildlife. A mix of awe, beauty and sympathy, his large scale soft-sepia photographs show the grandness of the wild combined with personal humility. In all, Brandt’s almost intimate relationship with his subject matter is overwhelming. It almost feels like Brandt has asked them to sit for the photos as if in a private portrait session. A percentage of all sales will go to Big Life Africa, set up by Nick Brandt to combat the staggering number of animals being killed by poachers.

Source Photographica, was established by Philip Kulpa who has been an active participant in both the Australian and International visual arts industry for 25 years. As investor, seller and observer, what started out originally as a vintage photography collector’s passion, has seen Philip develop into a compelling photography authority. This consuming passion for Australian photography had a natural flow on effect and has progressed to the international photography market. Philip travels regularly to important shows globally: Paris Photo, AIPAD New York. He has contacts and relationships with many Auction houses worldwide and his formidable knowledge is now recognised internationally. It is this reputation that has increasingly seen Philip called on to curate for several important private collections in Australia and abroad. Not content with collecting, consulting, buying and selling, Philip has now added Artist’s Representative to his resume. The focus is on supporting and showing established and emerging contemporary artists locally and internationally.
