Most misquoted and misunderstood Scriptures 7-1-18

John 8:31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. It is not only to our benefit to know truth and discern right from wrong, but it is our Life, and how we know and perceive God Prov 25:2 It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter. We must be cautious of current trends and fads within the church Misquoted scriptures and catchy sayings that sound like scripture but are not Eph 4:11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; Eph 4:12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Eph 4:13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: Eph 4:14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; Eph 4:15 But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ: I am by no means saying that people using these misquotes and misunderstandings are purposefully out to deceive, but the originators of them were, who is satan himself

2Cor 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 2Pet 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction. It is our responsibility to seek out the Lord and to know the real God we serve Not what people tell us about Him John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. So I say‌ Ps 42:1 To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God. So let’s look at a few of these, this is not exhaustive, merely a few we have time for 1. God will not put on you anymore than you can handle Taken from 1 Corinthians 10:13 1Cor 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. He true picture here is not God putting anything on anyone It is that when the temptation comes from the enemy He is there with you Alongside you, to make a way out for you and will not allow you to be totally overcome! 2. God works in mysterious ways His wonders to behold Not a scripture anywhere Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

To the world, yes, God is a mystery, but to the church, we are supposed to know Him and the mysteries revealed Deut 29:29 The secret things belong unto the LORD our God: but those things which are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law. Here is the mystery… Col 1:27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: 1Tim 3:16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. People use this as an excuse for their unbelief and lack of knowing their God 3. Paul’s thorn in the flesh This is used and misquoted by those seeking to justify sickness in their bodies as well as any other ungodly event they are unable to get rid of… 2Cor 12:7 And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure. The thorn is not sickness or disease of his eyes, but the messenger of satan 2Cor 12:8 For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. 2Cor 12:9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. He is not saying too bad, you are stuck with this, but my grace will comfort you NO!! God is saying to Paul, you are a spiritual warrior, you know my grace provided to you, you know how to use that grace to destroy this enemy attacking you

This is the reason even though He sought God three times, God is saying, I have already done it through my grace, now you use it, it is more than sufficient to remedy the problem! But people twist it to accommodate their unbelief and make “bible” excuses for them 4. Sickness is for the glory of God Some people actually think sickness is upon people to bring glory to God through suffering… What a demonic deception! John 11:4 When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby. This is the most likely scripture they pervert to get this devilish idea This is when Lazarus died, Jesus was explaining to His disciples that it would not result in death but the healing and resurrection of Lazarus would in fact bring God glory It is not the sickness that brings God the glory, it is the healing! Another scripture people of this persuasion point to is the one we used above in Pauls declaration regarding his infirmity The word infirmity more often means “weakness” than sickness, thus Paul was referring to a weakness he had not a sickness 5. Tongues must be interpreted 1Cor 14:27 If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret. 1Cor 14:28 But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God. You must read the entire chapter of 1 Corinthians 14. This is directed to church order and must be understood that way

Paul is teaching the Corinthian church how to have an orderly, edifying service and not chaos You must understand there are 2 uses for tongues The first is self edification The second is for church edification One you are speaking to God, just you and God, the other you are prophesying to the body of believers 1Cor 14:1 Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 1Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. 1Cor 14:3 But he that prophesieth speaketh unto men to edification, and exhortation, and comfort. 1Cor 14:4 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; but he that prophesieth edifieth the church. 1Cor 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater is he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying. This chapter is all about ministry to others more than yourself, but it is ok to receive edification, just do it in order 6. God answers prayers 3 ways, yes, no, wait‌. Not according to scripture‌ 2Cor 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. John 14:13 And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. John 14:14 If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.

1John 5:14 And this is the confidence that we have in him, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he heareth us: 1John 5:15 And if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him. 1John 3:22 And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. John 15:7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. Mark 11:24 Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. I cannot find anytime in the Bible someone is turned down when they went to God in prayer sincerely and in faith 2Pet 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. 2Pet 1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. The Holy Ghost wrote it and He is our teacher It is time to grow up in Him Heb 5:11 Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing. Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
