Where to take someone special on her 75th birthday, is the question that's comes to mind. My mother turned 75 and we as children wanted to do something special. My desire was to celebrate it at a place that would be a reflection of her own life. When I think of her terms such as family traditions, special birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, hospitality, art, culture, good food, grace, charm, homeliness, enterprise, and many other terms come to my mind. After many days and research on the internet I found the right place on my doorstep the Albertinia Hotel. The Albertinia Hotel's origins can be traced to a building with overnight establishment that has been erected by mr. Henry Stanford. In September 1881 he buys a share of the farm Grootfontein and erect a dwelling house and store on it. Mr. Stanford adds an overnight establishment for travelers. In 1912 Henry Stanford sold the part on which the overnight establishment stood to mr. Aronson who converted it in a hotel. He did not manage the hotel himself but Mr. Raymond Carl Fuchs was appointed as manager. Mrs. Ethel Fuchs was a good cook and served tasty food. Her daughter compiled a recipe book with her best dishes. The travelers usually arranged their affairs in such a maner that they could stay over in the Albertinia Hotel. In December 1929 Mr. Aronson sold the hotel to mr. Michalowsky Elias and his wife that knew nothing of the industry, but in her words: "It's bought and must be paid. We will have to work. ". Mrs. Michalowsky decided her hotel, had to develop a uniqueness of its own otherwise no one is going to bother to visit it. The bait was meat. More than eight different kinds of meat were on the menu every day. Mrs. Michalowsky was in the privileged position that they themselves did the slaughtering, The cattle and sheep were kept in the field during the day and at night, they were brought back to the hotel. The hotel was self-sufficient except for the fish. The liquor come from Robertson in barrels with the train and the hotel had a machine that labeled it -sweet, semisoet, liqueur and sherry. An ordinary dinner cost 75 cents in 1956 , and the menu looked like this Tomato soup, Canned herrings, steamed cod with butter sauce, steamed smoked sole with parsley, fish curry, corn on the cob, Italian spaghetti, baked pork chops with boiled potatoes, ham with mustard sauce, preserved beef, preserved ox tongue, roast leg of lamb with kweperjellie, fried pork rib with apricot sauce, grilled chicken with rice, roast shoulder of lamb with mint, baked potatoes, rice, squash, pumpkin, cabbage and bean sauce; korentepoeding baked with syrup or Lemon Snow with cream, cheese, biscuits and coffee or tea.

This is what I call abundance a person can afford without hurting yourself. Besides the menu, it was also the personal attention and caring for small things, that made the hotel so popular. Guests will get home and tell their friends, journalists will write in their articles and world travelers have it listed in their books. The Michalowsky's sold to a consortium in 1956. The managing director, Mr. Werner Thielscher and his wife Isabel, administrate the hotel from 1956 to 1959. In 1959 mr. G端nther Proske took over the management of the hotel. The Germanspeaking Mr. Proske could not actually speak English or Afrikaans, and the result was sometimes comical situations At one time the All Blacks toured South Africa (probably 1960) and someone told them if they are near Albertinia, the team must go and drink tea at the Albertinia Hotel . They called Mr. Proske and said that the bus with the team is on their way and are they ready for them. The poor Mr. Proske that didn't no anything about rugby and the All Blacks , replied that he was not sure whether he can receive them. (At the time, an institution needed to obtain permission from the government to entertain non-whites). This was the time that the hotel's bar was the place to be, and some evenings, Mr. Proske would stole the roast leg of lamb from the fridge, and carved it up for the regular patrons at the bar. Needless to say the next morning he was in trouble with the cook. In 1979 the couple Ralph and Cynthia Rayner bought the hotel. In 1985 the entire hotel was renovated and improvements were made. The old kitchen is converted to an additional dining area and the antic kitchen tools fits beautifully in with the "old kitchen" as it is called. In the "Old Kitchen" we are as a family celebrating, my mother's 75th birthday and what Albertinia Hotel portrays is reflected in this one-time event that will never again be repeated. This is one of the characterize of Albertinia Hotel which stands out for me more than the glorious boerekos and hospitality, the family experience. Guests are treated like family and when you look back at the photos one remembers the delicious food, talking and chatting to each other and enjoying it as a family experience and the memories that will be part of you for ever. It was not just another meal in a restaurant whose name after several years became forgotten. This special day is a reminder that we created, later to tell our children and grandchildren about it. The value of this day can not be measured in money terms. On the 1st November 1994, the Smith family, became the new owners of Albertinia Hotel and took it into the new millennium. The hotel has been revamped from front to back, and with effective marketing brings a stampede to the hotel, especially for Sunday's lunch. The existing dining hall has quickly become too small and in 1997 an additional room has been added. The "Tiekieteater" serves as a venue for functions, weddings and conferences. Shows by artists such as Anton Goosen, Theuns Jordaan, Piet Botha etc. are regularly been held here. .

Of the employees who worked at the Albertinia Hotel the next few stood out. William Benjamin Tarentaal whom was known as Uncle Willie began working at the age of 18 and as a store man in the kitchen. Later he became the "Handyman" because he knew how to handle the old lady and all the cracks and old window frames he could fix. He was a friendly person who did his work diligently and with proud. He had the most amazing, natural talent for music and art. Uncle Willie played the violin, organ, accordion, guitar and piano. Any musical instrument that was placed in his hand he could play within 15 minutes. During holiday times, Uncle Willie and a friend provided music for the guests. They were dress in white shirts, black pants and red ties and the colors of the guitars were white, black and red. Uncle Willie worked about 47 years at the Albertinia Hotel There was a wine steward with an excellent memory. Hans Vaaltyn didn't write down the orders in the lounge -he remembered everything. Even though a bus filled with passengers arrived, Hans could deliver each drink to the right person. Then there was Driekie, personally showed by Mrs. Michalowsky the ropes made in the art of boerekos. Driekie was the centre in the kitchen and with Pop her assistent cook they served their delicious boerekos In the days of good wheat crops long queues at the Co-operative were the order of the day. As the men were waiting to of load the crops they enjoyed lunch at the bar. Then they returned to the Co-operative. If the load has been delivered another turn is made at the bar before heading home. That explain the bar's name "Koringdraai" There is much history attached to Albertinia Hotel, where the past can be taken and build the future. Weddings are celebrated and business conferences are held. Albertinia known for family and moral values are being reflected in the Albertinia Hotel.

For me personally if I didn't lived in Albertinia, Albertinia Hotel will be the perfect place to stay over for a holiday or business conference. I would use it as my base. In the morning I'll have a delicious breakfast and later the afternoon enjoy in the lounge a cup of tea or coffee with homemade cake where I can read and relax. The Stanford's Lady Bar is relic of the old South African past. Ladies were not permitted to enter the male dominion known as the Bar. How ever the problem was solve with a Ladies bar. When a husband and wife come to sample the delicious fare served in the dining room they both could enjoy a drink in the Ladies Bar. This is not relevant in our society today but the Ladies Bar still remains and elegant place today to socialize and relax. Albertinia Hotel do not serve buffet meals but serve the full menu at the table. This method is excellent because personally I found buffet meals disturbing. It is the end of the dinner and we as a family had a fabulous time. The success of the meal, I can attribute to the hospitality and delicious boerekos of Albertinia Hotel. They welcomed us as family and made the day very special.

When I was in Johannesburg recently, I was privileged to visit a high school where young people are encouraged to start businesses while they are at the school Over lunch, some of them told me about their current projects and future dreams. It was inspiring. And they are aiming high. Some plan to move into technology sectors, others into online commerce, and others want to tackle large social needs relating to education or health. A number have already started real businesses. I came away from that lunch full of admiration and feeling optimistic. Those young people will soon be changing Africa and the world.

It’s easy to examine successful entrepreneurs in their lofty positions and forget to consider their humble beginnings. Here are two South African success stories that every entrepreneur should know: Raymond Ackerman: Trainee manager to founder of the Pick ‘n Pay Group Raymond Ackerman is a household name in South Africa, and a giant in the business world at large. According to Forbes, Ackerman’s estimated net worth is $545 million. After graduating from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, Raymond Ackerman was given work as a trainee manager for the Ackermans division of the Greaterman Group. Granted, Greatermans was founded by Raymond’s father, but most would agree that a trainee manager is a humble start. The chairman of Greatermans started Checkers in the early 1950s, and Ackerman was given the reigns to navigate this new venture. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, Raymond Ackerman worked hard to uphold the principles of customer sovereignty, and by the age of 35 he was the managing director of 85 Checkers outlets. At this peak in his career, Ackerman was fired. from his severance pay together with a bank loan and bought four Pick ‘n Pay outlets in Cape Town.

Raymond Ackerman’s story highlights the following entrepreneurial success factors: If you have passion, you’re well equipped, even if you lack some of the finances. • Stick to the values you believe in. Ackerman believed in the consumer sovereignty principle, even to the point that he was fired for being “difficult”. • You do not always need lots of cash to start a business, but you do need dedication and drive. Ackerman had to use what he had at his disposal – his severance pay and a bank loan. If you don’t try, you’ll never know. Raymond admits that if he didn’t decide to take a leap of faith, he’d just be another big corporate guy, a cog.

It’s interesting to note that the man who lost his job at Greatermans for “being too difficult” is the same man who created a retail empire. On the topic of his dismissal, Ackerman says, “It was then that I learnt one of my greatest lessons, and it came in the form of advice from an American who said to me: ‘You need 90% guts and 10% capital.’ It was this piece of advice that prompted me to start my business.” He took the money

Patrice Motsepe: Worker in his father’s spaza shop to mining magnate Patrice Motsepe was nurtured in an entrepreneurial playground, albeit a humble one. His father owned a spaza shop that was primarily frequented by mine workers. It’s easy to connect the dots and say that this exposure gave Motsepe an introduction to the world of business and mining at an early age. Despite his budding skills as a young, behind-thecounter salesman, Motsepe decided to study mining and business law. On completion of his studies, he joined a law firm as a partner. It was some time later that he saw an opportunity and bought negligible gold mines from AngloGold, which eventually led to him buying the operating mines that made him his fortune. African Rainbow Minerals (ARM) was the first blackowned mining business in the country. Patrice also has shares in Absa Group and Sanlam, and he continues to expand his business empire. Motsepe did not have money at the time of trying to secure the $8.2 million assets, and banks were not interested in financing him because of his race and also due to the known unprofitability of the mines in question. Motsepe secured the interest of Bobby Godsell, Chief Executive of Anglo’s gold and uranium division at the time, who helped him finance the purchase based on Motsepe’s drive and single-mindedness. Within three years, he was able to repay the loan due to his lean, mean, hands-on management style that saw him make the mines profitable again. Even though Motsepe’s net worth is an estimated $2.7 billion, he continues to live a relatively “modest” lifestyle, owning only one home in the affluent suburb of Bryanston in Johannesburg. His only indulgence was the acquisition of Mamelodi Sundown’s footfall club – not planes, yachts, holiday homes and the like. Patrice Motsepe’s story highlights the following entrepreneurial success factors:
Take what you can from every experience. Wherever Patrice found himself, he tried to acquire new knowledge and experience that he could apply to later business ventures. • Always be on the lookout for opportunities. Motsepe saw an opportunity where no one else did. • Share your ideas and passions with others. Some people have a vision, and others are looking to support someone’s vision. Bobby Godsell is a case in point. • Be hands on. If it’s your endeavor, you should do everything in your power to ensure its success. Motsepe chose to work from a place where he could watch over his staff. Live modestly. Your financial situation isn’t fixed; it can change. Motsepe continues to live

I believe success is ultimately a journey. So how do you get started on the success journey? What does it take to be a success? The picture of success isn’t the same for any two people, because we’re all created differently – as unique individuals. But the process is the same for everyone. It’s based on principles that do not change. After many years of knowing successful people and studying the subject, I have developed the following definition of success:
Success is . . . knowing your purpose in life, growing to reach your maximum potential, and sowing seeds that benefit others.
not something you vaguely hope identify it. one day to be. Here are some questions to ask How do you see success? Do you yourself to help you identify your purpose: see it as a journey or process? Or have you been captivated by some of the wrong definitions, For what am I searching? No matter how long you live or what you decide to do in life, you will never exhaust your capacity to grow toward your potential, nor will you run out of opportunities to help others. When you see success as a journey, then you never have the problem of trying to “arrive” at an elusive final destination. And you’ll never find yourself in a position where you’ve accomplished some final goal – only to discover that you’re still unfulfilled and searching for something else to do.

many years. For you, sowing seeds that benefit others probably won’t mean traveling to another country to serve the poor – unless that is the purpose you were born to fulfill. (And if it is, you won’t be satisfied until that’s what you’re doing.) However, if you’re like most people, helping others is something you can do right here at home, whether it’s spending more time with your family, developing an employee who shows potential, helping people in the community, or simply putting your own desires on hold for the sake of your team at work. The key is to find your purpose and help others while you’re pursuing it. As entertainer Danny Thomas said, “All of us are born for a reason, but all of us don’t discover why. Success in life has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It’s what you do for others.” The success journey will not look the same for everyone, because the picture of success is different for every person. What doesn’t change are the principles used to take the journey. They can be applied at home, in school, at the office, on the ball field, and in church. It doesn’t matter where you are now. You can learn and apply these ideas. You can be successful today.

You must answer "yes" to all five questions for each goal, or cross that goal off your list. Here are some points to ponder: Is it really MY goal or is it a goal someone else wants me to pursue? Is it the right thing to do? Will achieving this goal distract from achieving other goals? Goals are often difficult to achieve. Are you sure you can make the commitment to pursue this goal and see it through? If you can't "see" yourself reaching this goal, you probably won't. Take time during this week to think about the questions above and answer them. Once you're finished, your Dream List will probably be a bit shorter than when you started out. That's okay because you're now closer to identifying the goals that you really will pursue and can achieve. Lesson 4:

SOCIAL NETWORKING - A MARKETING TOOL Social Networking is the greatest marketing tool available to virtual businesses today. How do we gain presence otherwise? The storefronts that gain presence in the brick and mortar world are reached by different vehicles of transportation and communication than those in the virtual world. Discussing how brick and mortar businesses gainpresence will help us realize what we should be doing to gain this presence for virtual businesses. Social networking defined is the practice of increasing individual as well as group contacts. Although social networking has been practiced for as long as society has existed, the effect is much more powerful on the web. The Six Degrees of Separation theory holds that any person on the planet is able to be connected to anyone else on the planet "through a chain of acquaintances that has no more than five intermediaries" (Wikipedia, 2009). Based onthis concept, the rate at which one can connect to anyone else on this planet via social networking on the web is accelerated. Let us now discuss the differences in which business presence is gained in both the brick and 25
mortar and virtual worlds. First of all, storefronts in the brick and mortar world can be seen by several vehicles of transportation and communication. For instance, it is common to browse storefronts while taking a stroll, waiting for a bus, or exitinga bus and walking home. Maybe you have a specific shopping day and you a take family or friends shopping. You will probably browse several stores, new and old. This is one way for the local business to gain presence. What about non-local businesses ?
26
Cities with several options for using public transportation help people get from point A to point B true, but also expose people to more advertisements and storefronts than in their neighborhoods. Many times a trip using public transportation requires that a transfer to another bus or train be necessary in order to reach a final destination. What does this mean? That's right; people see more advertisements and more storefronts. Also popular offline is word of mouth. Word of mouth would have to rate as number one as a marketing tool. Word of mouth usually comes with something more than just advertising...client's opinions. This can make or break a business, but you should have nothing to worry about if you are good at what you do and you are honest. Good reviews can bring an organization many clients in the future and it doesn't stop there, word of mouth equals more word of mouth. Increasing reviews means an increase in business. In fact, there are only two ways in which businesses gain presence on the web; one is through the search engines and the other is by social networking, which is the foundation of cultivation. Online business owners do not have people strolling across the web or exiting buses. The closest thing to strolling is browsing. People browse the net all of the time. Search engines on the web can be compared to two things, strolling and the yellow pages. It all depends on whether you are browsing (general search such as hardware stores) or searching the search engines (a more specific search such as Joe's hardware store).
According to Misner (2002), the happy client does not talk to as many people about his experience as the unhappy client. The unhappy client can speak about his bad experiences with literally dozens of people. Misner states that word of mouth must become an important part of marketing and can be achieved by practicing and realizing three important things. Firstly, it is important to diversify your networks. This means getting out of your cave and gaining presence in the community. Secondly, you should develop your contact spheres and this is as simple as networking with businesses that are noncompetitive with your business. In fact, these businesses will compliment each other and may help the others gain referrals. For example, Misner refers to a florist, a photographer, a jeweler and a travel agent as the wedding mafia because one referral becomes four. Lastly, realize that word of mouth is more about cultivating relationships than hunting for clients. In other words; you should focus on quality rather than quantity. There are approximately 200 social networking sites available on the web. Approximately fifty of those sites are particularly focused on business. Examples of social networking sites focused on business are Delicious, Digg, Twitter, LinkedIn and StumbleUpon. Word of mouth starts with you so registering with these sites is highly recommendable. Become your businesses most valuable asset and let the mouse do the talking.

Social Networking - How Social Networks Impact Businesses Social networking has played a big part in the business world small and large. With small businesses researchers have found that networking by the owners has played a part in offsetting some of the fragility of their small size. If they happened to also be new within their industries it can be a way of gathering support and credibility before the venture develops a track record and before the owner develops strong, professional ties. In small businesses the use of social networking allows them to build up their contact base by advertising through social networks which allows the consumers to receive emails, discuss experiences with non-consumers to bring in more clientele for the small business owners therefore can bring the company to a larger size and also can build revenue. It is also been found that being in rural or urban areas starting up or maintaining the businesses can play a part in a successful business. Researchers have discovered that businesses in rural areas that use social networking as a communication tool have shown to have stronger networks than businesses in an urban community. In most cases rural businesses tend to be smaller, and it tends to build up a more trustworthy fan base because in most cases these companies are local. In a small business utilizing social networking allows the options to grow within other companies by connecting with larger businesses which helps that growth. Social networking allows small businesses the option to connect with other businesses and share ideas through message boards. Small businesses can also advertise through social websites for example Facebook. Out of five hundred businesses polled in United States only sixteen percent utilized social media marketing. Out of the same businesses polled half of them thought that social media was important to business production. Small business owners have said that social networks pose a threat on them.
from using social networking within their businesses even though it can be beneficial. It is reported that more than four hundred million people use Facebook and more than seventyfive million use Twitter. This estimate claims to be a big attraction that small businesses should appeal to.

If you're taking your trade show stand or other types of portable displays to a marketing event, it's important to promote your presence well ahead of time. Doing this will help potential clients know how to find you at the event. After all, if they don't know you're there in a crowded sea of portable displays and banner stands, they might wander around -- right to your competition's display. Promote Your Presence On The Event Website When you sign up to take your portable displays to an event, ask the organizers if it's possible to purchase a featured listing on their website. Many will offer this, but why should you care? Most visitors to the event will first sign up on the website, which means they'll read about your trade show stand immediately. Promote Yourself Using Social Media Social media sites such as Twitter, Facebook, Google Plus and even YouTube are the perfect places to let your followers know that you and your portable displays are attending a marketing event. Invite your followers to stop by and visit your trade show stand if they're going to be there. Consider offering social media followers the chance to win a prize simply by visiting with your employees. For even more presence on social media sites, ask your followers to post a photo of themselves standing in front of your banner stands to their own social media accounts and have them tag you in the photo. If you do this, give away a prize after the event is over and announce it on your own social media pages.
29
Use QR Codes Throughout Your Trade Show Stand QR codes are some of the newest marketing tools available. Have your trade show stand graphic designer place QR codes around your portable displays. However, if your graphics are already complete and it's not in the budget to create new ones, you can place them on marketing materials that visitors can take with them. The QR codes can point customers to specific products on your website, but consider one that will take customers to a special coupon code where they can save money on your products or services. Make Sure Your Site Is Mobile Friendly Many customers that you meet at your trade show stand will be visiting your site for the first time using your QR codes and mobile devices. Make sure that your site is friendly to mobile devices. For instance, if your site utilizes Adobe Flash it will be unreadable for any visitor who uses an Apple device. Check your site from a number of different mobile devices, including tablets and cell phones, to make sure visitors aren't getting a blank page. The Internet is a big resource for business people who are taking portable displays and banner stands to an expo. Make sure you're taking advantage of everything the Internet has to offer and you might be surprised at how your business can improve without a lot of effort. Two of the greatest obstacles to running a successful event today are the economics of the event, and attracting attendees/ sponsors to participate. Many forms of promotion formerly used are either nonaffordable today, or have become almost irrelevant. As evidenced by magazine and newspaper circulations, fewer and fewer people today are reading these vehicles, and, many potential advertisers have found the cost of advertising prohibitive. When that is coupled with the escalating costs of mailing and shipping, it becomes clear that event organizers andplanners today needed to find and utilize other alternatives if they wanted their events to succeed. Some of thesealternatives include web/ internet advertising, email and e- blasts, texts, Blogs, etc. In addition, event planners havediscovered that it is often advantageous to take advantageous of Social Media as another tool in their "bag." While I believe that the best promotional technique is to use a combination of all these methods within budgetary limitations, this article will provide a few tips about using social media to promote and enhance events and event planning. 1. There are numerous internet invitation programs that are quite useful in giving the perception of providing personal invitations, as well as tracking, follow through, etc. While in the strictest interpretation of social media these programs are generally not considered, they are certainly useful extensions in the event planning process. In order for social media to have an impact, it is necessary to get a large degree of interest in whatever the event one is promoting or planning. That means that an organization needs a viable method of attracting followers. However, just having followers alone accomplishes little unless the planner creates some sort of buzz about theevent. That means that the organization's leadership must commit to making a concerted effort to get the word out, either by using email or texts, but preferably (and the the best results occur when this is done) either over the telephone or face- to- face. 3. Make the social media vehicle fun, informative and participatory. Many organizations run contests or promotions of some sort to hype the interest and get potential attendees and sponsors to pay more attention and follow. 31
Create a dedicated social media site or page for the event. Most of the better known sites offer that availability. For example, Facebook permits an organization to set up a specific page, and Linked In permits groups to set up a Group. Organizations should also utilize social sites such as My Space and U Tube, and create videos that enhance and entice the event. It is essential that all these methods feed into a
Registration site, and that there is tracking, oversight and follow up with people who have visited the sites. Without that follow up, results and response will be disappointing. Most importantly, all social media should provide compelling reasons for people to attend and donors to support and sponsor. Event planners must always emphasize perceived value. A very valuable social media site is Twitter. The event should focus on getting followers and attracting people to get more information. Twitter should be used both to whet the appetites as well as feed people to other informational sites and sources. Twitter conferences should also be set up with event specific hash marks so that people know they can get answers to questions and learn more. Twitter is also an effective tool to use during the event for attendees to get up to date information, etc. Event planners and organizers must understand the benefits of properly using social media as one of their tools. The danger is that some leaders may look for shortcuts and over rely on this media, or use it incorrectly. Organizations should include social media as part of their leadership training and event planning programs. Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Richard_Brody

Action Leads to Transformation According to the April 2012 Q1 U.S. Chamber of Commerce Small Business Survey, only 22% of small businesses expect to hire new employees in the near future. And May 2012 statistics by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics indicate that there are 5.1 million people who have been unemployed for 27 weeks and over. This is not good news if you are looking for a job to pay your bills and support your family. Plus, you have no control over these statistics… so does that mean you should just give up on your dreams and expect others to support you? Definitely not. After all, there are still three, key things you can control: How You Think Are you letting all of the negative news out there squash your dreams? It’s time to take control of your thoughts and be positive. There are too many people out there who started with nothing (including me) and became financially-free. If you are stuck in the doldrums, thinking “Why Me?” or wishing you had married rich… Snap Out Of It! Think positive. Negative thinking will get you nowhere. It’s time to aspire to something better. How You Act Have you been sitting around watching television and complaining to friends and family about your situation? Instead, why not do something about it? Get the financial education you need to make your dreams a reality. Read books, take classes, conduct online research at the library… You have complete control of your actions so start taking them! The information you need to transform your life is out there. But it’s up to you to do the work and take action on what you learn in order to make positive change happen. No one is going to do it for you. Who You Hang Around With Are you constantly hearing negative comments from the people around you about the economy, unemployment, gas prices, etc.? If so, it’s time to hang out with a different crowd! Find successful, smart people and learn from them. If you surround yourself with positive people who are working towards their goals, it will help you get the support and positive mindset you need to succeed. Don’t Let Negativity Beat You Down. There is negative news everywhere today. And it’s easy to be part of the unhappy crowds that sit around and complain without doing anything about their situations. Instead, take control of your thoughts, how you act and who you hang out with. As I discuss in "It's Rising Time!," follow the Triple-A Triangle™ of Aspire, Acquire and Apply. This way, you can reach your goals no matter what the economy is doing. Financial freedom is waiting. What are you going to do about it? 35
HOW TO FIND YOUR WAY TO FINANCIAL FREEDOM
You’ve seen the maps that say, “You Are Here” at shopping malls, parks and highway rest stops. This information can be very helpful when you need to find your way. But when it comes to your path to financial freedom, you may think more of the saying, “You Can’t Get There From Here.” Well, just as you look at a map to get from Point A to Point B, it’s important to look at where you are now to get to where you want to be financially. You Are Here. The first step to financial success is taking a good, truthful look at where you are now. Do you know your current numbers (income, expenses, assets, and liabilities)? Ask yourself these questions: How much income is actually coming into your household each month? What exactly do you spend every month (be brutally honest!)? What do you owe money on today? What investments do you own including stocks, bonds, mutual funds, retirement places, real estate other than your home, business investments, gold, silver, etc.? If you don’t know the answers to these questions, FIND OUT. And if you need to ask a partner, financial manager, spouse, or someone else for this information, be forewarned… you may find yourself in a tense conversation. The people handling your finances may be hiding some information or feel threatened that you are questioning them about their ability to manage your money. But don’t let this stop you. Have the courage to get the information you need to start taking control of your financial situation. Now Where Do You Go? Once you have your “financial snapshot,” take a look at it. Don’t get frustrated, upset or angry if the numbers are not where you want them to be. So what? You no longer need to worry or fear the worst. You know exactly where you are right now and can deal with it. This is all part of the learning process and will bring you one step closer to financial freedom. Now you can plan a strategy to move forward based on setting goals, getting the financial education necessary and applying what you learn to make your dreams a reality (the Triple-A Triangle™ of Aspire, Acquire and Apply). Just remember. Your numbers are dynamic. They will always be changing so it’s important for you to know what they are at all times and check them on a regular basis (and notice I said “you” – not 36
your financial manager, boyfriend, spouse, partner, etc.). By knowing your numbers, you take control and guide them where you want them to go. But if you are afraid to find out your numbers, or do not watch them carefully, your financial dreams will continue to be just that… a place you can’t get to from here. Ladies, It’s Rising Time! WHY THE CHEAP WILL NEVER GET RICH
The other day a friend of mine approached me excitedly, saying, "I found the house of my dreams. It's in foreclosure and the bank will sell it to me for a great price."
ball to her future, she will likely always be cheap and poor, even though she is a good, kind, educated, hard-working person.
"How good is the price?" I asked.
My Point of View
"Just before the real estate market crashed, the seller was asking $780,000 for the property. Today, I can buy it from the bank for $215,000. What do you think?" she asked.
What follows are some thoughts on why my friend will probably never get ahead financially -- especially in this market.
"How would I know?" I replied. "All you've given me is the price." "Yes!" she squealed. "Now my husband and I can afford it." "Only cheap people buy on price," I replied. "Just because something is cheap doesn't mean it's worth the cost." I then explained to her one of my most basic money principles: I buy value. I will pay more for value. If I don't like the price, I simply pass. If the seller wants to sell, he will come back with a better price. I let him tell me what he will accept. I know some people love to haggle; personally, I don't. If a person wants to sell, they will sell. If I feel what I am buying is of value, I'll pay the price. Value rather than price has made me rich. Against my advice, my friend sought financing for her "dream" home.
1. She and her husband have college degrees but zero financial education. Even worse, neither plans to attend any investment classes. Choosing to remain financially uneducated has caused them to miss out on the greatest bull and bear markets in history. As my rich dad often said, "What you don't know keeps you poor." 2. She is too emotional. In the world of money and investing, you must learn to control your emotions. When you think about it, three of our biggest financial decisions in life are made at times of peak emotional excitement: deciding to get married, buying a home, and having kids. My dad often said, "High emotions, low intelligence." To be rich, you need to see the good and the bad, the short- and longterm consequences of your decisions. Obviously, this is easier said than done, but it's key to building wealth. 3. She doesn't know the difference between advice from rich people and advice from sales people. Most people get their financial advice from the latter -- people who profit even if you lose. One reason why financial education is so important is because it helps you know the difference between good and bad advice.
Fortunately, the bank turned her down. The house was on a busy street in a deteriorating neighborhood. The high school four blocks away was one of the most dangerous schools in the city. Her son and daughter would either have to go to private school or take karate lessons. She is now looking for a cheaper house to buy and has asked her father, who is retired, for help with the down payment. If her past is a crystal
As the current crisis demonstrates, our schools teach very little about money 38
Speaking of finance experts, I personally want to thank Jon Stewart of 'The Daily Show' for taking on Jim Cramer and CNBC. Jon Stewart did an incredible job of representing the millions of people all over the world who have lost their savings in the market. He was right in saying he thought it "disingenuous" to advise people to invest for the long term through their retirement plans while knowing full well that traders could steal Americans' retirement money by trading in and out of the market. Most traders like Cramer realize that investing in mutual funds for the long term is financial suicide. Cramer should have spoken up, but we all know why CNBC won't let him tell the truth. If he did, the station's advertisers would leave.
CHEAP ?
OR
While I applaud Cramer for going on 'The Daily Show' and facing the music, I'm afraid he was marginalized by Stewart -- certainly outgunned -- and he has lost his credibility. He may pay an even bigger price if the SEC decides to dig deeper. Jim Cramer is a very smart man. I watch his show. I just do not follow his advice. In closing, I will say what I have said for years: We need financial education in our schools. Without it, we cannot tell the good advice from the bad.

Why those who train the most, succeed the most my country. I also value the people with whom I served – both those who survived and those who did not.
In Vietnam, Robert Kiyosaki learned many lessons. But the most valuable lesson he learned is the importance of training for success in life and business. In 1972, I had just finished my marine pilot training and was making my first flight into battle aboard a gunship. I was met with tracer rounds, large bullets that burn brightly as they fly through the air so that the shooter can track them and make adjustments. They help shooters from the ground be more accurate, and they look like little demons flying at you. My first instinct as a young kid was to flee in the face of those rounds, but I didn’t. I was scared but I pushed on. One of the reasons I pushed on was because Gunnery Sgt. Jackson tapped me on the shoulder and said, “You know what’s bad about this job? There’s no second place.” At that point, I was determined to win.
Though I wasn’t a fan of the war, I knew that fighting for my country was the right thing to do. Even though I could have avoided the war, I volunteered to go. I learned many lessons while in the Marines including the importance of integrity, courage, and honor. All of these lessons were drilled into me through training, and so the most valuable lesson I learned was the importance of training. The importance of training
In over a year fighting in Vietnam, helicopters that I flew in crashed three times. That was scary. Each time there was a mission, I had to fight the urge to not get into another helicopter and fly into battle; and each time, I got back in and flew back into battle. Doing the right thing I could have easily died on any of those missions; and, I had friends who did. But once I faced that fact, understood it, and moved forward, I was able to confidently fly into battle. I knew the risks and I accepted them. This week, we celebrated Memorial Day. As a veteran, I value my time in the Marines serving 40
To succeed in business, you need a place where your character can be developed through training. In the military, I was turned from a boy into a man. I learned toughness and discipline through my training. When times were tough and I was scared and ready to turn the other way, it was my training that gave me courage to push forward.
But my training didn’t end with the military. That was just the beginning. When I got out of Vietnam, I took a job with Xerox in order to learn how to sell. I could have gotten a job as a pilot and made a comfortable living. But, I wanted to succeed in business and I needed sales training for that. I chose the harder path. At first, I was the worst salesman on the team and my instinct was to quit and run. But, I kept moving forward, kept training, kept honing my skills, and I eventually became the best salesman in my office. This same pattern continued through my first failed business, my first successful investment, building my now-successful financial education company, Rich Dad, the writing of each book, starting with Rich Dad, Poor Dad, and the many successful investments and businesses I’ve been a part of since. Each time I pushed forward, I looked at each opportunity as a training experience and learned all that I could. Throughout my life, when the heat was on, it was my training that helped me prevail. Success comes from financial education In business, it’s no different. You must have training and you must always be training. If you want to be successful in business, you must always be increasing your financial intelligence through financial education. This is why Rich Dad Education offers courses in financial education through classes and seminars, as well as personalized financial coaching to help you apply that training. Think of it like a boot camp for those in the business world. This is also why I still teach and why I still attend seminars as a student. I don’t believe it’s important for just you to always be training. It’s equally important for me. My encouragement to you today is to not hold back. Begin your training today. What have you got to lose? To start your training, check out our free, financial education resources here. Robert

USE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIPS TO START-UP FASTER, AND JOINT VENTURE MARKETING TO MAKE MORE SALES!
Learn from others so you can do a better job of pursuing your goal
Take a look back at the rapid advancements in development across the world, especially in the area of technology, and one thing becomes obvious. Virtually every breakthrough recorded in order to make the latest advancement has been achieved by BUILDING on previous work done in various fields. In discussing this subject, I often like to start by asking this question: What would be the point of repeating other people`s mistakes when you still have plenty of your own unique ones to make – through which you can contribute usefully to the existing body of knowledge? Then I challenge the thoughts of my listeners/readers to think about the people with whom they interact daily. I ask them to think about how each of such persons, has a unique blend of knowledge, skills and experiences that could potentially benefit others - IF they were to be shared with those who need them. It is here that I then point out that the problem is that many of us
fail to "tap" from other people's experiences for our own benefit. And this causes us to go through needless/ avoidable pains in order to achieve our goals. Now, in the society I grew up in and currently live/work, not many people are comfortable with the idea of sharing what they know with others(for reasons beyond the scope of this article). That in itself makes it difficult to avoid making this mistake out here. Having said that, it is quite possible to seek out and interact with those who would be willing to help you shorten your learning curve(I have done/am doing so currently, and successfully). This way, you would make less costly mistakes, and progress faster, with less effort, in your pursuit of business success. So,who are these people who can help you avoid the mistake of re-inventing the wheel? Well, some are your friends, relatives, colleagues etc. Others could be highly placed persons - probably well known/celebrity types you 46
might not have easy access to. Some of them probably have knowledge or expertise in a particular area youwish to engage in towards furthering your business interest. You will need to start looking at these kinds of peopledifferently from now onwards, and decide which ones amongst them you need to get close to, in order to learnsomething that will help you better work towards achieving your goal(s). But how do you go about meeting such highly placed people who can help you, you might ask? First thing is "remove the blocks from your thinking". Stop thinking you cannot get to see such an important person. Start thinking like this: "He or she is only human - flesh and blood - just like me, so it can't be that difficult". In fact if s/ he were to try making you feel inferior, that (in my opinion) might be cause for you to exercise caution in your dealings with him/her. Specific Steps You Can Follow What is needed firstly is for
you to find out who can help you. Decide exactly what it is s/he can help you with, and then develop an action plan for reaching out to him/her. Make sure you are clear in your mind about the reason(s) why you think s/he can help you. Then be prepared to be relentless in pursuing the person. You are the one who needs help, so you must be ready to accept whatever they tell you about their availability.
independent companies to a large extent) started by an individual who had a business idea the parent company's decision makers saw an opportunity in, and bought into. Basically, they brought him/her in as the head of the new business, provided needed funds, and more importantly ready access to the parent company's established infrastructure, sales and marketing networks etc.
Put your thoughts together upfront. Prepare and rehearse the key opening points (write them down if you can't keep them in mind), and use those to set the tone of the meeting. The way you come across when they give you their attention, can determine if they'll want to meet with you subsequently. So, be careful how you "sell" yourself. Be open, candid, and very sincere - and let it show through. I don't need to tell you that your dressing/ physical appearance also matters a lot - but then I just did. :-)
With the extra advantage of considerable freedom to implement his/her unique vision with their support s/he would go on to build them a successful new company, in an areas where they did not have in-house expertise, and would have had to spend much more, with less chances of success, if they had tried to build a new team by recruiting required hands. For the individual with the business idea, s/he would benefit most significantly in terms of access to much needed financial backing, support from an experienced business management team, and a much quicker entry into the market place via the parent company's established outlets.
Strategic Partnership Can Help You Start-Up Your Business Faster Forming Strategic Partnerships with the right individual or organisation can really take the work out of your start-up effort i.e. if you go about it correctly. Among other things, forming strategic partnerships can help you source as much as 100% of the capital you need to start-up and speedily achieve delivery of your product/service to the right market place. A lot of well established companies today have had money-spinning subsidiaries (which operate as
Depending on your needs or objectives, you may seek to establish a strategic partnership with a large company as described above, or team up with an individual like yourself. What is most important is for you to present - in a manner that is convincing - a clear proposal of your ideas that shows how the coming together of both parties will yield mutually beneficial results. In doing so, you will need to indicate the nature of involvement you seek, and how long you propose for it to last. For instance, you could 47
request some level of equity investment, with technical input, and in return offer a percentage return on investment over a certain period, possibly with an exit strategy to allow the partner withdraw if or when s/he chooses to. You might want to do a search on the net, or better still, talk to a qualified professional, to learn more about how togo about doing the above. It's very likely to be a worthwhile investment of your time, effort and/or money.
Joint Venture(JV) Partnership can make your business marketing easier/ more successfull Let me illustrate how powerful this strategy can be, using the following example: Assume an netpreneur, "Sam"(not real person), publishes a weekly e-zine that reaches over 50,000 subscribers weekly via email. In JV marketing partnership formation, what typically happens is that an individual or group(who have specific areas of business expertise relevant to the potential needs of his subscribers), could approach Sam about the possibility of making, say, a concessionary sales offer to his subscribers. He would evaluate their product, service or special offering, for authenticity, and potential usefulness to his subscribers - who his proposed partners consider a "prequalified target audience". Note the italicised reference to "his" subscribers in the above paragraph. Sam is the publisher of the e-zine, and it is his subscribers who will be
recipients of the promotional sales offer being proposed by his prospective partners. So, for the prospective partners, who are looking for an easier and quicker way to make more sales, the difficult business of advertising to reach their target audience has been taken out of their hands and made quite easy. Since Sam's e-zine readers are mostly people who already fit the profile of the type of customers that his prospective partners seek, they are assured that the right people will be reading the special offer that will be circulated in the ezine, and so will likely be interested in taking up the sales offer, or at least making contact to get more details. If he agrees to their proposal, Sam would, in effect, be "endorsing" the partners to his list of trusting readers who "believe" that anything/ anyone they read about in his e-zine is likely to be useful (plus "tested, proven and trusted"). In exchange for his willingness to take the "risk" of sharing advertising access to his readers, the partners would give a percentage of their earnings from sales recorded through Sam's e-zine channel to him. According to Marc Goldman, who calls this technique "The most powerfull marketing method ever invented the norm in terms of percentage of the profits one could expect for doing something similar to what Sam does is 50%. But he adds that the owner of the e-zine or other marketing channel to be used, has the right to request as much of the takings from this first interaction with his subscribers as s/he wants. This is because the partners will be gaining direct access
to his/her subscribers, who will after this first contact go on to make future purchases from Sam's JV partners, that Sam will never know about, or benefit from! Goldman therefore advices a subscriber list owner - like Sam - to "capitalize on the profits made now." Just in case you're already challenging what Marc said above, let me quickly help make the point even clearer. Without Sam allowing you to advertise to his readers through his e-zine, where would you find so many people that are most likely to be interested in buying your products/services all in one place? And even if you did find a medium like Sam's e-zine, would the readers readily hand over their hard earned money to someone they do not know – and have no reason to trust? A subscriber list owner, like Sam, confers on you the "unfair advantage" of instant credibility before the readers of your advertisement. That's one of the benefits you'll pay for, by giving up as much as 50% of what you make through him - the first time. If you can find someone to work with in a Joint-Venture arrangement, you are likely to boost your sales/ marketing efforts tremendously. It would make you quickly gain good ground and acceptability in the market place with your product and/or service. Also, and depending on the kind of business you go into, you will find that at a point, you will be able to offer another person access to YOUR own customer/subscriber list, and in the process make good extra income for yourself, almost without lifting a finger! 48
his day and now began his day too. Sam’s drinking had taken control over him.
Businesses today are eager to tell you how great they are. “Look at our awards”, “We’re voted #1” and so on.
Sam’s family was very concerned as they watched a successful businessman, their Dad and devoted husband drift further and further away.
We are shifting from the broadcast era where people were consumers of ideas, not participants in spreading them, to the digital era, where people are now in charge of the ideas and passing them along.
Drinking began to take precedence over everyday living. Sam’s family was at their wits end after his second DUI. Not knowing what to do, a trusted friend recommend a private drug and alcohol rehabilitation program called Journey Healing Centre.
In the digital era, social networking is changing the way we do business. We get to shift our focus off of us, the business, and back to them, the customer. When marketing (telling a story) about your business, make the customer the hero. Everyone loves a good story of how an ordinary person faced the odds, overcame challenges and became the hero.
Sam knew that he wanted to stop drinking but just did not know how. He agreed to check into rehab and began the Journey. Today, Sam just celebrated 1 year of sobriety. His business is back on track and growing, Sam’s relationship with his kids and coworkers are better then ever and wife is so thankful that she called Journey Healing Centre and got the person she loves back.
The businesses new roll in the story is to be the mentor that guided the hero along the way. Here’s an example:
When promoting your business, make your customers the hero’s. Because you know what, they really are!
Sam, a successful businessman dedicated his life to building a great family business. He worked for over 15 years day and night to provide for his family and someday retiring, handing off the business to his children.

The challenge was that over the years, the daily pressures of owning a business had really gotten to him. He ended his day by drinking to relax, disconnect and deal with the daily pressures. Sam’s nightly ritual slowly overtime, became the way he ended 49
