Welcome to Camp! Take a look at what we did today Welcome to Maker Camp! We were excited to start off the day by having everyone participate in a game called two truths and a lie. This acted as a confidence builder and everyone got to know each other very quickly. Then we jumped right in and everyone formed groups of three or four people. Each group came up with a name for a construction company and created a poster to advertise themselves. They spent time creating a logo, a slogan and learned about branding! Next we took a quick break and read a book about our customer, Goldilocks & The Three Bears. We went straight into explaining how the characters, Goldilocks and the Three Bears could be our new customers. The campers then split off into groups and brainstormed designs for a chair that would fit all three bears and Goldilocks at the same time! After that, we actually constructed all of the chairs. We loved seeing all the cool designs the campers came up with! We closed the day with each group presenting their chairs and even doing a test to see if Goldilocks and the Three Bears could fit. This was a great day to start off the week and we are excited to see where our talented, innovative students take us tomorrow.
Continue Learning: Questions to ask about today Think big, test, and create! So what does it take to be an entrepreneur? Can anyone be one? Are you an entrepreneur? What is the name of your construction company? Why did you choose that name? Critical thinking and problem solving are some of the most important aspects of entrepreneurship! How did your team plan to solve the problem?

Mindfood Monday: How Dissecting a Pencil Can Ignite Curiosity and Wonderment Here at VentureLab we don’t only encourage entrepreneurship - we love to tinker, too! The great thing about entrepreneurship is that it can be applied to any field or niche, and we think that technology and tinkering is one of the best places for it! We aren’t the only ones who think this. In this article from MindShift, read about classrooms that encourage hands-on, project based learning with their students. These classes teach students to use their creativity and apply it to problem solving and critical thinking! As the article says, class work like this, “help[s] students to look more closely, explain more deeply and take on opportunities to change things they see around them.” We love to make things and want to help your students discover their passion and creativity when it comes to tinkering and entrepreneurship!
