MS AUD - Urban Design 03 - 2020 | Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY Professor : Ferda Kolatan, Emilija Landsbergis | Team : Hetali Patel, Yash Patel Softwares : Rhino, Sketch Up, V-ray, Keyshot, Photoshop

Project : The studio examines how autonomous vehicles (AV’s) can reshape the understanding of “urban street life” and open up new ways of thinking about building envelopes, sidewalks, and streets as spatio-architectural units . Challenge : Responding well to the trajectory and the promise of the AV revolution which opens up new civic programs and leisure activities Role : Translate AV research into novel urban design strategies and assess the architectural potential of new technologies. SENSORED MOTION

KINE TIC TRACKS

Coming up different tracks built with sensors which helps lighter vehicles to move around. And these tracks will in turn capture the kinetic energy being produced by the motion and then converting it to electrical energy

There are pockets of green space formed at various spots which builts up a transitional connection inbetween indoor and outdoor space and between the existing street level and canopy level

The existing street space would be an open green, complimenting the machinic canopy for the AV’s. The existing street has farms growing brussel sprouts, asparagus and farms with mushrooms growing under UV lights

(on right) A view from existing street level of the Waverly Avenue that creates a whole different atmosphere and space for the community

SCENARIO 02 Wa v e r l y Av e n u e _ Te c h n o l o g i c a l Mishap

When technology is into play it will have supremacy upon the infrastructure and nature will change its behavioral pattern under the influence of technology. Hence, the existing street caters to the people with a landscape which is a blend of reflections, technology, and nature. The shadow pattern of the canopy influences the geometry on the street which blends with the experiential screen that adapts different forms of nature with time and mood of the community. The canopy on the existing street expands onto and into the buildings forming new interstitial spaces.

The street becomes an extended lounge for the people where they sit, play, walk on the screens or just enjoy the projections on the screen as if they are sitting in their living room watching tv

At night it seems like the lights from experiential screen, trackers of AV’s and the lights from private spaces of the building are interacting and exchanging notions of their nature

There is a form of interiority that is created inside of the block that house the recreational, cultural and public spaces.

Challenge : Densification and dealing with the 100 acre site with 52 million built area. Role : Understanding the site, surrounding through varied map sets and coming up with a densifying method. Outcome : A new form of joinery system derived from the play of solids and voids that makes a habitat creating major four levels of public that merges with the modes of circulation (elevator pods and pedestrian) on a larger scale.

Programmatic analysis of the block in terms of the interaction of the recreational spaces with the housing programs.

Physical model through 3D printer using UV reactive Pla, changing the aesthetic appearance of the model with spotting or pointing at different issues.

The porosity of the block facades becomes proficient in bringing in the natural light, lighting up the public spaces.

Material qualities was analyzed by extracting main features of the material studies and tracing them as aesthetic and organizational systems.

Whereas, on the otherside, the light refracts in throught the terrace and kitchen gardens to the cultural spaces.

Public level 2 has a recreational setup with a large cut out along the residential having terrace gardens and farms

Elevator pods on the public level 3 boosts interaction between residents and greenhouse users

Terrace farming being setup above the commercial programs becoming an extended space for them

The outcome was a functionable volumic spaces that later blends in with repetitive volumes but at the same time growing each volume in order to blend the open spaces of different programs together.

03 Critical Geography Data Analysis & Representation

MS AUD - Urban Design 02 - 2019 | Brooklyn Navy Yard, Brooklyn, NY Professor : Oliver Schaper, Emilija Landsbergis, Erich Schoenenberger, Jonathan Pichot Softwares : Rhino, Grasshopper, Kepler, Photoshop

Studying the various modes of transport arounf the Brooklyn Navy Yard, land based, air based, water based and heavy and light rail.

Examinig the modes most accessible to the community and the origin of the commuters which shows Brooklyn Navy Yard as the least approachable.

Marking the water level rise condition in New York and the density of the programs and travel modes that are being affected through the same.

Potential relocations for the affected infrastructure to the vacant plots and lands in and around the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

Project : Documenting the physical features alongwith understanding the intangible character that includes the behavirol pattern and aspiration of public, that enables to develop a relevant program for the upliftment and betterment of the region. Challenge : To evaluate the prospects of an urban intervention in the vicinity of the Lal Darwaja w.r.t the existing geographical and socio-cultural conditions.

The streets are narrow and they cut off major sunlight, keeping it shaded and the inner temperature of the houses cooler.

The orientation of the secondary streets is east-west. further, all the tertiary streets are branched forming a grid pattern and going in north-south direction.

Re-designing the cinema road would provide a place for fraternizing & help in de-cluttering and uncongestion of the area where a space for socializing and playing will contribute in bringing the community together

Streets are quite tight hence buildings mutually shade each other. A typical node with a Chabutra which acts as a small gathering place.

Project : To project and inspire the imagination for the School of Architecture, Interior Design and Fine Arts in a way that encourages the organization of spaces/activities leading to a creative space. Challenge : Understanding the busy artery of the region, blessed with a large number of trees

Existence of around 92 trees. Thus, one major aspect would be to try preserve maximum trees especially the old and rare species.

Existing hostel footprint

Grouping of programmatic spaces is done according to the users of the space.

Proposed school footprint.

Connecting the trees: The space encompassed by joining the center point will be the the major COPs and the main circulation path.

Living among things is the basic principle of human existence. Hence, connecting each studio, class, semi-open space and making a livelihood environment in order to establish cross-culture over the vertical studios and the multiple faculties.

The project aspires at two major aspects- the sense of belonging and the visual dialougues between the counter parts: Solid-Void, Man-Nature, Earth-Sky.

The play of courts with the surrounding masses enhances the transition inbetween the spaces that add sensorial experience. Hence, the courts plays a vital role in bringing the programmatic spaces come to life and become a part of learning.

Residence at Caymans Island

Professional work - 2021 | Somerville residence Reference : John Zona III | Zona & Associates, P.A., Florida Softwares : Archicad - BIM, Autocad, Photoshop

Project : The proposed residential project is a 5 bedroom vacation house located at the Caymans Island by the ocean. The three story house with pool and outdoor spaces will be constructed of CMU and wood stud walls. Challenge : The project is a large scale development at the Caymans Island which requires to concentrate thoroughly on codes and requirements. Additionally, the client had a drastic change in idea by shifting from traditional looking to modern design of the house. Role : Involved in conceptual and design development in collaboration with the principal architect. Furthermore, the 3d studies are done on Archicad BIM software.

The concept of the residence started with an idea of the house having a traditional character with large arched canopies and roofs, the columns being decorated and following a curved geometry like the roofs.

Large outdoor spaces comprised of a series of traditional form columns with arched beams connecting them. The development entirely required the architecture style to be transformed to have a modern look.
