7

C) Slide toward the front cover from rear side and lift up to remove it from piano cabinet, see photo 2. D) Unscrew the 2+2 screws on sides of front cover upper finish and remove it from piano cabinet, see photo 3. E) Slide the keyboard cover on toward position and remove it from cabinet, see photo 4. F) Unscrew the 1+1 screw on sides and the 2+2 screws on centre metal supports, to remove the controls panel (after having disconnected the 2 flat cables on cn2, cn4 connectors, see photo 5, 6. G) To remove the I/O board group unscrew the 4 fixing screws from inner space of cabinet, see photo 7.

HOW TO INSPECT THE KEYBOARD AND TO REPLACE THE SINGLE KEYS: H) To remove the keyboard group, unscrew the 8+8 fixing screws on frame inner side and on cabinet bottom side, see photo 8, 9; then, lift up the keyboard group (after having disconnected the 2 flat cables from interface board CN2, CN5 connectors) and place it on flat surface to inspect the contacts boards, hammers, frame and the 88 keys. I) To inspect the keyboard contacts pcb and rubber strips need to remove the keys and hammers from metal frame as follows: L) To remove/replace the white & black keys, bend the key plastic pole on fulcrum and push the key on back arrow direction, then lift up it from metal frame as shown on photo 10.

GRP800 REPAIR INSTRUCTIONS This model doesn't provide an autotest procedure, then in case of electr. fault we suggest to proceed on its repairing as follows: [1] Switch ON the Piano and check if the led on cabinet is lighted and the dot digit leds are lighted in sequence (three times) before to visualize 120 value on digit leds. [2] Then, after having opened the GRP800 cabinet, check the presence of supply voltages on power board ass.y (+5V, +/-12V, and +/-20Vcc for power amplifiers TDA 7296]. [3] POWER ON/OFF, MASTER RESET, MUTE TIMING check Using dual channel oscilloscope, try to visualise +5V Power Supply, VOK, Reset , Mute, OE signals timing during GRP800 POWER ON, as by timing 1; Starting from the POWER ON event the GRP800 remains in Reset condition until the +5V Supply rises 4.75V value on IC17 pin2 (MAX709) setting the active VOK (after 200ms) and Reset controls; the VOK and Reset signal are connected to pin 209 and to pin 206 of DRAKE Chip (IC9); the RST delay should be >60uS refer to VOK rise time . The Mute signal is controlled by GRP800 O.S., after the finish of start-up phase, it actives the analogue signals on IN/OUT's plugs and on speakers, through RL2 & RL1 relais of 731083 power supply board. The OE signal is generated by hardware circuit on 810712 pcb.a as by specified on timing 1. [4] MAIN (CPU) BOARD ASS.Y CHECK The GRP800 Digital Piano provides a main (CPU 761300) board ass.y that requires a specific knowledge of DRAKE (Dsp Risc Advanced Keyboard Engine) custom chip, no easy to extend and to check outside of GM factory; so, we suggest the replacement of main board when the GRP800 doesn't work at all or work partially on sounds generation and on keys & controls playng. In any case the following informations can be useful to locate a specific problem on main board, before to replace it: [4.a] MASTER & BIT CLOCK The Master clock (MCLK) of main board is generated on DRAKE chip (pin 160-161) with XT1 quartz oscillator (fo =11.2896MHz)that you can check by oscilloscope on pin 2 IC19 as by fig. 1: The Bit Clock (BCLK) of main board is generated inside DRAKE chip (pin 230) dividing 4 times the MCLK; its frequency is: =2.8224MHz that you can check by oscilloscope on pin 26 IC19 as by fig. 2:

[4.b] CONTROLS PANEL BUS TIMING It is generated by DRAKE chip (IC9) through the GRP800 O.S.; the relative signals can be checked by oscilloscope as shown on timing 2. (for the read of control panel button swt's) and on timing 3 (for the write of control panel leds). [4.c] CPU-KEYBOARD INTERFACE TIMING It is generated by DRAKE chip (IC9) through the GRP800 O.S.; the relative signals can be checked by oscilloscope as shown on timing 4. [4.d] DRAKE - DAC SERIAL BUS TIMING : It is generated by DRAKE chip (IC9) through the GRP800 O.S.; the relative signals for the D-Sigma stereo D/A converter can be checked by oscilloscope as shown by timing 5. [4.e] If the previous checks on main board are OK, the GRP800 has to generate sounds; to verify this condition, press the DEMO button to active the musical sequence with PRESET leds flashing, etc. Now a sound pattern sequence should be played by CPU board, in line with the O.S. release installed; in absence of sound from speaker verify with oscilloscope the presence of the audio signal on CN7 connector, pin 14, 16. At last try to reload the O.S. on Main board as by following instruction. [5] OPERATING SYSTEM UPDATE The O.S. of main board is preload into (IC2) NAND FLASH Memory from GM factory; the 256Kbit NAND FLASH Memory is formatted and written with O.S. pattern using PC system with RS232 serial port and hardware interface kit.The update of O.S. must be taken out from qualified Personal; before to make it please check the current O.S. installed by pressing the FUNCTIONS and TOUCH button at same time to visualize O.S. release on led digits. The are two possibility to update the O.S. pattern of GRP800: the first, without open the instrument (to update the upgraded O.S. release), using the computer RS232 port on I/O box with proper serial cable and PC tools: the second by opening the GRP800 cabinet (to fully reprogram the OS release) and connecting the serial cable with proper interface module to CPU board CN1; it requires also the J1 Jumper shifting from E2 to UART position on CPU board; to execute carefully these operations, please refer to the separate document O.S. update installation instructions procedure. [6] FLASH MEMORY RESET TO FACTORY SET-UP To active the factory reset with OS release 1.03, switch ON the GRP800 with SOFT & SOSTENUTO pedal pressed until the 3 digit leds visualize 120 value; from OS release 1.05 switch ON the GRP800 only, then press at same time the following 8 PRESET buttons: PIANO1, PIANO2, RHOD1, RHOD2, STRINGS1, STRINGS2, PAD1, PAD2. [7] GRP800 MODEL SETTING To active this function on common RP/GRP/PRP OS releases, switch ON the GRP800, then press DEMO button and after press DEMO again with FUNCTION button at same time to visualize the setted release; to change the setted release to other, press the DATA< button to select GRP; switch OFF the GRP800 to active the new setted release. 3
