Before Using the Scan Functions

It is recommended that the settings described below be specified before using the network/scanning functions. The network settings described in “Specifying Network Settings” must be specified first. Set other items as necessary. Specifying Network Settings In order to use this machine on a network, the network settings for the image controller must be specified. Specify the network settings from the image controller screen, which appears in the control panel of the copier.

!

Detail

For details on specifying network settings and using the control panel of the image controller, refer to “5 Specifying Network Scanning Settings”. Registering Destinations and Specifying Their Settings The destinations (recipients) of scanned data must be registered. The following registration methods are available. - Register from the touch panel of the copier. - Use PageScope Web Connection from a PC on the network. - Use PageScope Data Administrator from a PC on the network. The three types of destinations described below can be registered.

IC-402

Destination (Recipient)

Characteristics

Abbreviated Destination

The destination can be selected with one button. The registered destinations are displayed by press the [Scan] key, then touching [Address Book].

Group

Multiple destinations can be registered in groups. E-mail, FTP, SMB, and mailbox destinations can be registered together in a single group. The registered destinations are displayed by press the [Scan] key, then touching [Group].

Program

The destination and scan settings can be registered together as a single program. This is convenient for frequently scanning documents and sending data under the same conditions. The registered destinations are displayed by press the [Scan] key, then touching [Program].

Sending Data to a Server (Scan to FTP)

This function is suitable for sending data of a large size such as high-resolution images. The methods described below are available for specifying the destination. The methods can also be combined, for example, by selecting a group destination, then adding other destinations through direct input. Transmission may not be possible if the destination server has placed limitations on the document name. Because the document name becomes the file name at the time of transmission, consult your network administrator when specifying the document name.

2 Note

If a mail server is available on the network, the e-mail notification function can be used to send an e-mail message containing notification of the storage location of the scan data. This section describes the copier network functions. - The image controller is equipped with two network ports. One port is used to connect the image controller to the network port on the copier with a network cable (cross cable). The other network port is used to connect the image controller to an external LAN. (Refer to figure 1.) - The network settings are saved in the image controller, which uses them to communicate with the external LAN. The network settings saved in the copier are used by it to communicate with the external LAN through the network card in the image controller. - The image controller and the copier each have their own network functions. The image controller mainly has network scan functions and network print functions. However, the copier has various other functions, such as a function for sending a notification by e-mail about the copier’s status and a function for performing an LDAP search for an address when specifying an e-mail address. (Refer to table 1.) - Various settings must be specified on the image controller and copier in order for their corresponding functions to be available. The image controller settings are specified from the setup screen of the image controller (refer to page 5-4, and the copier settings are specified from the copier’s Administrator Setting screen.*1 Details on the copier settings are described in this chapter. *1 In order to use some image controller functions, some settings may need to be specified from the copier.

TCP/IP Settings The TCP/IP settings necessary for using the copier network functions can be specified. To activate all network setting changes, turn the copier’s main power off and then back on. Items To Be Specified The following items are specified. TCP/IP Setting screen 1/3 The network interface card of the copier communicates internally over the network with the image controller and communicates with an external network through the image controller. The network interface card of the copier acquires a virtual IP address through DHCP from the image controller and communicates through this address. Therefore, if neither of the IP addresses listed at the left is displayed, communication is not possible. In addition, since the IP address is acquired from the image controller through DHCP only when the copier is turned on, the image controller must have started up before the copier is turned on.

An indication of the amount of darkness in the image

DHCP

Abbreviation for Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A protocol in which a client computer on a TCP/IP network automatically specifies the network settings from the server. With collective management of the IP address for DHCP clients on the DHCP server, you can avoid duplication of an address and you can build a network easily.

DNS

Abbreviation for Domain Name System. A system that acquires the supported IP addresses from host names in a network environment. DNS allows the user to access other computers over a network by specifying host names, instead of difficult to memorize and understand IP addresses.

DPI (dpi)

Abbreviation for Dots Per Inch. A resolution unit used by printers and scanners. Indicates how many dots per inch are represented in an image. The higher the value, the higher the resolution.

Ethernet

LAN transmission line standard
