Global flavors take center stage

For more than four decades, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has been spreading the message about good nutrition and living a healthy lifestyle through its annual March celebration of National Nutrition Month.
The theme of this year’s monthlong observance is “Celebrate a World of Flavors,” which aims to encourage healthy eating by highlighting healthy foods and traditional recipes from around the world.
“The theme Celebrate a World of Flavors gives every culture a place at the table. Celebrating the cultural heritage, traditions, and recipes from all people is a tasty way to nourish ourselves, learn about one another, and find appreciation in our diversity,” said registered dietitian nutritionist Libby Mills, MS, RDN, LND, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
Week-by-week guide to National Nutrition Month:
To make it easy to participate in this year’s National Nutrition Month, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics has provided suggestions for each week of the celebration: • Week One centers on choosing healthy foods from
all the food groups, learning how to read nutrition labels, and showcasing your family’s cultural or traditional recipes. • Week Two suggests working with a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) who can help you customize your meals to meet your unique health goals and nutritional needs. • Week Three recommends learning to plan meals and snacks so you can make healthy choices whether you’re at home, school, or work. Choosing recipes and making a grocery list are great ways to get started. • Week Four focuses on learning to create tasty, healthy meals at home by practicing your cooking and meal prep skills, trying new foods and flavors from around the globe, and sharing meals with friends and family.
