James Johnson Emory University (404) 727-6123 HGOR is working with Emory University and the Candler School of Theology to develop an integrated plan which unifies a new library and research building with the historic Pitts Library and adjacent Cannon Chapel. The precinct, while relatively small, serves dual purposes as both an integral part of the School of Theology and a major route for campus pedestrian circulation. The design solution encompasses the use of campus standard components organized to provide direct access and visual connection between the new library and the existing chapel. The articulation of seat walls, paving and landscape serve to provide subtle “room dividers“ that enhance a sense of personal space for the school while maintaining large campus circulation movements.
