Steve Fanczi Georgia Building Authority (404) 656-3253 The grounds of the Georgia State Capitol are a site for daily enjoyment, major legislative events, gubernatorial announcements and the occasional citizenled protest. HGOR has been retained to design Liberty Plaza, a new 3-acre public park and plaza that will transform the Capitol Grounds into a pedestrian-oriented environment including the rerouting of public streets. The design includes a flexible center space that can accommodate large tents and gatherings of more than 3,000 people and is surrounded by a bosque of trees. The space is flanked on two sides by terraced seating and anchored by an elevated permanent stage on the third. Materials were selected for their permanence, durability and long-term civic character.
