Senior Year Planning Calendar


AUGUST • Create login and passwords for the Common Application and other school applications that are not on the Common Application. https://www.commonapp.org/Login • Check college application deadline date/early decision deadline. • Link Common application to your Naviance Account by matching the two in Naviance under “Colleges I’m Appling to”. • Request teacher recommendations on Naviance under “Colleges I’m Appling to”.


SEPTEMBER • Check registration deadline for SAT I, SAT II, and ACT. • Send Available SAT, ACT and SAT II scores to colleges that your are applying to. Send Directly from College Board and ACT.org. • Check your schedule that graduation requirements are being met. • Meet with your counselor for our senior groups. • Discuss college applications. Provide up-to-date info about yourself.


SEPTEMBER • Check college application deadline date/early decision deadline. • See if an interview is required in the college application process and plan accordingly. • If you have an outside recommender other than a teacher or counselor, add them to the Outside Recommender section on the Common Application.


OCTOBER • Take ACT/SAT test as an additional college entrance option. • Attend mini-college days and college fairs. • Submit ‘Early Decision’ applications to Counseling Center. • Discuss colleges with your counselor. Visit campuses, if possible. • Submit before Halloween for best results. • 3 to 4 weeks after submission of applications, begin checking the status of your apps on the colleges website. • Please remember it does take at least two weeks for all information to come together in your file. This is not an instant gratification process.


NOVEMBER • Take SAT I or SAT II tests. • Meet with counselor if 1st quarter reports need to be sent to a college. • Consistently check email for requests from the colleges and confirm that they have all information needed.


DECEMBER • College applications processed through Counseling Center by December 6th will be mailed before Christmas. • Determine if your college choices require the CSS Profile for FAFSA or financial aid.

JANUARY

• Attend the Financial Aid workshop – January 15, 2015. • File financial aid forms (FAFSA). • Go to the colleges website and fill out the Net Calculator to determine if you are eligible for scholarships or Financial Aid.


FEBRUARY • Meet with your counselor if mid-year grades need to be sent to colleges. Complete the mid-year form and give it to the secretary. • Notify your counselor of college decision and any scholarship awards. • Log into FASTWEB to research scholarships • Avoid ‘Senioritis!’


MARCH • Meet with your counselor to discuss college options and job opportunities especially if you are not college-bound. • Register for May AP exams and/or SAT II tests. (A good score on a foreign language achievement test may exempt you from these courses in college.) • Determine whether you still need the ACT. Some schools require these for placement.


APRIL • Seek additional assistance with job search skills. • Notify Counseling Center of college decisions. • Weigh your options. • Select a college that’s the “BEST FIT” for you.


MAY • Take AP Exams. • Pay your Deposit for The college you would like to attend. • Have Advanced Placement (AP) scores sent to the college of your choice from College Board.


JUNE • Report your final college destination to your counselor. • Indicate any scholarships you may have received to your counselor. • Do well on your final exams. • Graduate proudly.
