Dear friends, Your Boulder Phil can’t wait to reconnect with you! With your help, we kept the music playing during our Reimagined season and took you inside the music with unique camera angles, in-depth interviews and behind-the-scenes video footage. For our 2021-22 Season, we’re excited to welcome you back inside the concert hall to reignite and reawaken your senses with the energy of in-person, live performances of great music that we know you’ll love. Our six-concert subscription series kicks off at Macky Auditorium in January 2022 with a Gershwin Celebration featuring the renowned Marcus Roberts Trio and their spellbinding, toe-tapping take on his Concerto in F. The season is packed with audience favorites by Beethoven, Rachmaninoff, Elgar, Rimsky-Korsakov and Stravinsky, along with fresh new discoveries from Mason Bates, Anna Clyne, Cindy McTee and a world premiere violin concerto from jazz legend Billy Childs. We’re thrilled to be joined by a roster of world-class guests like violinist Rachel Barton Pine, pianist Terrence Wilson and Boulder’s own GRAMMY®-winning violist, Richard O’Neill. And we close our season with the return of ukulele sensation, Jake Shimabukuro! “Boulder touches” also abound, including concertmaster Charles Wetherbee playing the evocative Butterfly Lovers' Concerto along with spectacular aerial choreography from

Frequent Flyers® Aerial Dance, and the premiere of two fascinating works of video art commissioned by the Phil to deepen and enhance the experience of Circuits and Mysterious Mountain. As a subscriber, you receive the best seats at the best prices, personalized service, and free ticket exchanges. You can resubscribe with confidence, knowing that the health and safety of our patrons, musicians and staff is our first priority, with all of the necessary COVID-19 safety protocols in place. We also invite you to join us for musical hikes in 2022, led by interpretive naturalist Dave Sutherland in collaboration with Boulder County Audubon Society. Thank you for being part of our Boulder Phil family. We look forward to seeing you soon for live music!

RIMSKY-KORSAKOV STRAVINSKY

Undistant The Butterfly Lovers’ Violin Concerto Russian Easter Overture Firebird Suite (1919)

Springtime’s promise of rebirth and renewal animates this program. We welcome back our friends at Frequent Flyers Aerial Dance® for an only-in-Boulder collaboration that also features our Concertmaster Charles Wetherbee as violin soloist in The Butterfly Lovers' Concerto, based on a Chinese legend involving, among other things, the idea of rebirth. Other dimensions of that same theme are explored in two orchestral showpieces: Rimsky-Korsakov’s dramatic Russian Easter Overture, and Stravinsky’s much-loved suite from The Firebird ballet. Opening the program, we have a new work by Mason Bates titled Undistant that reflects on our recent experience of “cocooning” during the pandemic isolation and the thrill of reconnecting with one another yet again.
