LATEST HAPPENINGS

A NEW CORNERSTONE FOR WARD VILLAGE On January 25, Ward Village celebrated the grand opening of the newly renovated IBM Building, which features the Ward Village Information Center and the Waiea and Anaha Sales Gallery. Community leaders, partners, legislators and others, joined The Howard Hughes Corporation ‘ohana (family) for a celebratory evening in the IBM Building courtyard. Guests enjoyed live music from local entertainer Starr Kalahiki, ono (delicious) food from Roy’s Hawaiian Fusion Cuisine, and a colorful finale light show on Vladimir Ossipoff’s iconic concrete brise-soleil. And everyone went home with a special gift from Ward Village – a print of the Ward-inspired mural created by Hawaiian artist Solomon Enos for the Ward Village Information Center.

EVENT SPOTLIGHT

A NIGHT TO REMEMBER What’s better than an evening concert under the stars with the Hawaii Pops, Hawai‘i’s favorite pop music orchestra. How about the musical accompaniment of renowned singer, Vanessa Williams. On February 22nd, the music star joined the Pops on-stage during an exclusive event hosted by The Howard Hughes Corporation for the future residents of Waiea and Anaha at Ward Village. Guests were treated to great food, signature Ward Village cocktails and more at the first of many planned events at Ward Village this year. DISCOVER YOUR INNER CHEF AT COOKSPACE HAWAI‘I Tucked away on the second floor of Ward Warehouse in Ward Village, CookSpace Hawai‘i is a cooking studio that offers culinary experiences, including workshops, tastings, and private classes. Past CookSpace Hawai‘i events include a “Get Fresh” cooking series that paired famous local chefs with Hawai‘i farmers, a dessert workshop, and private cooking sessions. See More

CONQUER THE SEA TIGER Less than a mile offshore, the Sea Tiger, a 168-foot shipwreck, can be found sitting in 127 feet of water. The ship purposefully sunk in 1999 as an artificial reef, and was apprehended en route to Hawai‘i as part of our state’s largest immigration seizure. A five-minute boat trip from Kewalo Basin Harbor takes you to spectacularly clear waters, reef sharks, turtles and rays. During the winter months, the occasional humpback whale has been spotted as well. There are several charters from Kewalo Basin Harbor who offer dive trips to the Sea Tiger.

SIP ON RYAN’S FAMOUS TROPICAL MOJITOS Ryan’s Grill at Ward Centers has been crafting classic and specialty mojitos for over 30 years, and you can taste their expertise. If you’re craving something tropical, the lilikoi (passionfruit) mojito is like no umbrella drink you’ve experienced before. The raspberry mojito is another one of six signature mojitos that makes a surprisingly refreshing accompaniment to any dinner. Ryan’s Grille, located upstairs at Ward Centre, opened in 1983 and continues to be a neighborhood favorite located in the heart of Ward Village. See More

DIVE DEEP INTO OCEAN ACTIVITIES Located just makai of Ward Village, Kewalo Basin Harbor features a wide variety of ocean activities, including catamaran and fishing charters, ocean cruises, sailing, scuba diving, parasailing and more. The harbor, which has served as one of Hawai‘i’s commercial harbors for over eighty years, is home to some of the best natural fishing grounds in the state. In October of 1993, Maggie Joe Sport Fishing caught a 1,277-pound Pacific Blue Marlin, one of the largest marlins ever caught out of Kewalo Basin. See More

REAL BEER AND TAPAS Beer afficionados from near and far will gather at REAL, the first beer-centric pub in Hawai‘i. Located on Auahi Street next to Ward Entertainment Center, REAL is a self-proclaimed gastropub, which is “a place with a warm, inviting pub atmosphere that serves sophisticated, yet unpretentious food prepared to the highest standards.” In addition to live local music, REAL has 29 taps with rotating beers, more than 250 bottles, beer engines, creative beer cocktails, as well as local comfort cuisine, like candied garlic bacon, served tapas-style. VILLAGE SPOTLIGHT RONALD CHANG A true subscriber to living the active and aloha-filled lifestyle that Hawai‘i is known for, our featured buyer of the month, Ronald Chang, is looking forward to his future residence in Ward Village at the Waiea tower. Ron, who is a Honolulu native and grew up in the urban neighborhood of McCully, couldn’t be more excited to take advantage of the many benefits and amenities Ward Village has to offer. “Waiea’s close proximity to downtown Honolulu and the Ala Moana and Kaka‘ako areas was key to my decision to purchase a unit in Ward Village,” said Ron. “The great location, combined with the amenities and stunning architectural and design elements of the buildings brought me to Ward Village.” An avid traveler who takes trips throughout the year, Ron is especially looking forward to the convenience of the Kaka‘ako rail station, which will be located at Ward Village. The station will allow him to commute to Honolulu International Airport without having to deal with traffic and parking expenses. Ron will also reap the benefits of Ward Village’s many great restaurants, entertainment and retail options. “Ward Village is a great improvement to our neighborhood, and one that I want to be a part of. The model units truly exemplify the high design standards Waiea presents,” said Ron. “The beauty is in the details – from the closet systems in the units to the open public spaces. The time and attention to detail put into these new designs will transform our skyline and enhance our community.”
