The upholstery process of tufting has been used for centuries. Long before coils and memory foam, mattresses were filled with feathers, cotton rags, and other materials, and tufting was used to keep this stuffing from shifting to one side or the other when the mattress was flipped. As residential furnishings evolved, so has tufting. Today, we use hand-applied button tufts to elevate the look for a more clean, modern aesthetic on many different types of furniture. Our craftsmen create indentions at regular intervals across the top of the cushion by passing a long needle and thread through to the back side of the frame. The thread is then pulled taut and tied so that the button will remain firmly in place.
