he Dead Sea region has been blessed with a rare combination of magnificent sites, breathtaking views, ancient landmarks and unique health and beauty natural resources. It is no surprise that this beautiful oasis of lush greenery and wildlife surrounded by the arid, vast desert has recently been named one of the finalists in the vote on the world’s seven natural wonders (more details at: www.new7wonders.com). Here one can find peace and tranquility, as well as challenging nature hikes; pampering, rejuvenating retreats alongside adventure-filled vacations. The Dead Sea simply has it all. Archeological sites A range of archeological sites from various periods, are located throughout the region, with the crown jewels being the magnificent Masada and Ein Gedi. Recently, a new museum was opened at the Masada National Park. The museum, which offers guided tours, includes archeological remnants and historical testimonies – from those of ancient historian Josephus Flavius to modern-day archeologist Yigael Yadin. The fascinating and well thoughtout exhibition truly brings the Masada myth to life. Nature reserves – A vast part of the Judean Desert is a nature reserve rich with springs and streams, unique flora and fauna and protected wildlife. ceptionally high level of water salinity (33% - ten times higher than that of the Mediterranean), enables bathers to float effortlessly on the water and enjoy a uniquely relaxing experience. The air is dry, pollution-free and rich with oxygen and temperatures are high even in mid-winter. Additionally, at the Dead Sea the sun's ultraviolet rays are attenuated, a fact which allows for risk-free tanning and also works as a natural remedy for various skin conditions. Along the shores one can find spots of warm, mineral-rich "healing water" that, when combined with the area's typical black mud, create an ideal foundation for health and beauty treatments. Thanks to these natural attributes the Dead Sea has become an international center for health tourism. Several clinics, each specializing in a different area, operate in the region and clinical studies on the benefits of the sun, air, water and mud are conducted there regularly.

Historic sites The area is home to some of the world's well-known and most important historic sites, including Masada, the Caves of Qumran, Jericho, the Roman Strongholds and the monasteries in the Judean Desert. Tourism - Fifteen hotels consisting of 4,000 rooms are spread along the Dead Sea coastline, and additional accommodation is offered in the area's communities. Vacationers can choose from a wide selection of leisure and entertainment activities, including hiking, jeep tours, Bedouin hospitality, agricultural tours and much more.

Cultural events Several prominent cultural and sporting events are held in the area each year: The Tamar Festival – A music festival held during Sukkoth and hosting the leading singers and musicians in Israel. Mount Sodom Race – An international mountain bike race recognized by the UCI (International Cyclist Union), which combines professional cycling with open-to-all tracks. The competition is held each year in November. The international Ein-Gedi race in memory of Giora and Tomer Ron – Held annually in February, this road-running event celebrated its 28th anniversary this year and regularly attracts over 2,000 participants. Top runners from Israel and across the world take part in the race, as well as children, teenagers and disabled athletes.
