Water
The ocean surrounding the Faroe Islands, the natural habitat for salmon to grow, is the perfect place to raise salmon.
The water’s temperature is steady, between 6-11°C throughout the year, which supports a natural and consistent growth of our salmon. The result is superior taste and texture.
Well-being
A thriving salmon is a good salmon. A healthy growth process is critical for the salmon’s taste and firm texture. Our innovative methods of raising them make sure we simulate their natural habitat as accurately as possible at every stage of their life, so they can prosper and eventually become premium Faroese salmon.
One important factor in producing the perfect salmon is our stress-free harvesting method. Instead of using well boats, which increase stress levels and, therefore, have a negative effect on quality, Hiddenfjord salmon is gently led from the ocean to the harvest facility. This method ensures that our salmon is under as little stress as possible. Tests show that our stress-free harvesting concept has a positive effect on the quality of our salmon.
The Living Environment
Hiddenfjord salmon is raised in pens placed in exposed sites with high waves and strong currents that provide the perfect natural living conditions for the Atlantic salmon. Raising salmon in the wild also prevents pollution of the seabed. We choose exposed locations for our salmon pens in order to obtain optimal animal welfare and the best environmental sustainability.
Ingredients
High-quality salmon feed not only contributes to better fish health and quality but is also a major element of responsible aquaculture. Our salmon feed contains high-quality marine and vegetable ingredients. All raw material used is GMO-free and follows strict quality standards. All soya protein used in the feed is Proterra-certified.
We never feed antibiotics or hormones. Utilising natural resources, such as lumpfish, helps us keep our salmon free of parasites, healthy and thriving, and minimises impact on the environment.
