hoemaker Hill Ranch is truly a blessing to me. I was married when we purchased the ranch back in 1992 and built the house in 1994. When we were about 6 weeks away from moving into the house it burned to the ground caused by spontaneous combustion of stain rags. This was pretty devastating to say the least. We waited a year to start rebuilding and finally moved into the rebuilt house in November of 1996. Talk about learning the importance of not giving up just because a challenge arises!
MALINDA WORLEY, OWNER SHOEMAKER HILL RANCH
It wasn’t until 2008 that I knew I wanted to share the ranch with others. In 2010 I went through a divorce so I knew that “making” the ranch profitable was something that had to be done – or sell it. Selling it was not an option because I love this place.
I have learned that no one succeeds alone in building a business. Part of the success model is to have a mentor help you look at things from a different angel and perspective. I have partnered with Patricia Makhulo and she is teaching me the importance of seeing the big picture of any situation and we are working together to help other people grow their businesses. One of the ideas we created was a twice yearly giveaway at Shoemaker Hill Ranch where a “bride to be” wins the wedding venue (FREE - at no cost). The winning bride from our facebook contest last year is the now Mrs. Kaleigh Scott. Her wedding was this past November 2012. Stay tuned for our upcoming give-away http://www.facebook.com/shoemakerhillranch.
“Every mother wants to give her daughter the wedding that she has dreamed of. Being a single mom I had a few financial worries. I wanted to give her everything she dreamed of. So when she called me and told me she won the venue she was really excited and so was I. I told her lets go look and see what the venue is all about and we came and looked and we loved it! You (Malinda) were awesome with us and made us feel very comfortable.”
Rhonda Davis, The other bride that won a wedding venue here at Kaleigh’s Mom Shoemaker Hill Ranch was Mrs. Lindsey Yarbrough. She won by being present at an annual event we have here at the ranch called Moonlight, Merlot and More. Her wedding was in April of this year. This year’s Moonlight, Merlot and More will be held on September 21, 2013 (See ad on page 11.) This event is an evening bridal show that is more like a date night. It involves great food, wine, dj with dancing and the finale is the Grand Prize giveaway and an exciting fireworks show. Wedding vendors are scattered around the property inside and out and if you want you could plan your wedding in one night! While it is geared toward brides and grooms anyone can come to this event for an evening of fun.
“The best words to describe Moonlight, Merlot, & More…would be fun and romantic. When I saw this, I said to myself, wow, what an event. Every couple was on a date. And then I told Malinda…You have to do this again! No one will ever do an event like this, nor have I ever seen this before! Then…BANG! Fireworks. Yes, can you believe it? Fireworks! And so I said it again, wow, what an event.” Mondale Onuoha, Complete Music, Video & Photo www.TylerDJ.com 4 | East Texas Metro Woman

BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
Through these last few years I have grown tremendously as a person, a businesswoman and spiritually. Here are some helpful tips that I have learned for you out there growing a business: 1. Have a mentor to help with direction and perspective 2. Build relationships with other vendors/businesses 3. Lastly, learn to trust and rest in the Lord. He will lead, guide and direct you if you let Him. I talked about helping each other. Ironically (I know it was from the Lord), the free wedding that Kaleigh won is where I met the man I will marry very soon. He is Kaleigh’s uncle! I am happy to say that by the time you are reading this magazine I will be happily married! God is so good and of all places to meet him - here at Shoemaker Hill Ranch. How incredible is that! We are getting married here at the ranch under “The Wedding Tree” on May 28th. We wouldn’t have wanted it anywhere else!
MALINDA & JAMES
Shoemaker Hill Ranch is mainly known as a wedding venue but we also host showers (bridal and baby) and events, such as Moonlight, Merlot and More and Veterans Celebration. Both of these events will be held in September of this year. Other ways in which we will be sharing the ranch very soon is by offering Corporate Retreats and Business Seminars. Meeting Kristy Couch, owner of ETWI/ETMW magazine is another blessing. She is all about helping others succeed. When I first met her I knew she was different and was offering something that no one else in the area had to offer. She is more than just a magazine! Shoemaker Hill Ranch is not a cookie cutter venue. We are in a very private, peaceful setting that is personal and you can transform this place and make it your own for whatever type of event you are considering. Feel free to call to schedule a consultation and a tour of Shoemaker Hill Ranch. If you are a bride coming to visit you will be receiving a goodie bag at your appointment. Check us out on our website at www.shoemakerhillranch.com, and/or on our facebook page www.facebook.com/ shoemakerhillranch or just give Malinda a call at 903-721-1768.

Ranch as they looked out over a green pasture with a lake and several beautiful oak trees. The reception was enjoyed in the big back yard with lots of tasty treats, including hand dipped Blue Bell Ice Cream and dancing. Chelsey and Brandon would like to thank the following vendors for helping to make their wedding so special and memorable: Designs by D’Anne for making a beautiful and delicious bride’s cake, Vicki Lipsey for making the groom’s cake, Brenda Bing Catering for all the tasty reception foods, Brianne Campos Photography for capturing our special day, Lilies and Lace, and Christi Hanks from Christi’s Four Seasons for supplying beautiful flowers and doing a wonderful job at decorating as well as taking a lot of stress off the bride by being the wedding coordinator. Favorite moments: Both agreed that the moment they saw each other was their favorite, the first dance was so sacred and special, and for Chelsey the daddy daughter dance was a wonderful fun moment she was able to share with her dad.

Chelsey & Brandon
ell it’s not every day that you get to say, “Third times a charm”
but that is definitely the case for this Aggie and Red Raider. They started dating again for the third time after seeing each other at a friend’s wedding and it was love at first sight, well for the third time! After dating for about a year, Brandon got down on one knee and popped the big question on a hill in Oakwood, TX that has one of the most beautiful views. Chelsey caught a glimpse of him down on one knee and before he could even say anything she said,” What are you doing, get up off the ground!” She then saw a shiny ring glistening in the sun and realized what was going on and of course said “YES!!!” Wedding planning began right away, and started with finding a wedding venue. Their first stop was the only stop, at Shoemaker HER ADVICE TO Hill Ranch in Jacksonville, TX. As soon as they pulled into the drive and looked to the top of the hill and saw a beautiful house with an aweChelsey would definitely some view, they knew that it was the recommend getting a wedplace.
