Dickerson Park Zoo

Groups will participate in a self-guided tour of the zoo; maps are provided at the front desk. Walk throuNorth America, Asia, Africa, Australia, and South America to learn about each continent’s native animals and what adaptations help those animals survive and thrive. For the reptile lovers, visit the Diversity of Life building to learn what makes reptiles unique and why they are vital to the environment. Mini classes are available in the amphitheater for an additional charge. Participants will have the opportunity to meet some of the Education Ambassador Animals to learn about their adaptations and the niche they fill their ecosystem.  Check online for zoo group rate form and policies. To qualify for the group rate, you must have at least 15 paid admissions in your group. All guests in the group must be paid for in one transaction, including parents and chaperones.  Lunch is available at the cafe. You can order lunch ahead of time. Find the form on our website for more information.  The pavilion in the playground park is available for rent if you bring your own lunches. Pavilion rental is on a first come, first served basis. Sack lunches cannot be brought into the zoo.  Mini classes are available on grounds in the JLS Amphitheater for an additional fee. The Butterfly Palace

Your tour guide will release a live butterfly for its first flight for your group. Springfield

Conservation Nature Center

4601 S. Nature Center Way • Springfield 417-888-4237 • mdc.mo.gov/springfield Naturalist-led programs are available Tuesday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Registration for the next calendar year beings on September1. Programs typically include an indoor presentation combined with a guided trail hike. Groups will also be allotted time to tour through the exhibit area on their own. Virtual programs are also available. All standard programs are designed to fulfill selected Missouri Learning Standards for grades K-12. The nature center features 79 acres of forests, fields, and wetlands, and three miles of hiking trails along with a building facility featuring hands-on exhibits, classrooms, an auditorium, and a gift shop.  Fees: No fees are charged.  Bus transportation funding may be available for schools enrolled in the Discover Nature Schools curriculum (Details at mdc.mo.gov).  One adult chaperone per 10 children is required. More adults, especially with young children, are recommended. PreK 3 & 4

For preschool-5th grade classes, Rutledge-Wilson Farm Park hosts handson programs that align with Missouri State Standards, teaching children about farm life and animals. Take a guided tour of Springfield Botanical Gardens at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park to discover flowers, trees, and insects, and see inside the Roston Native Butterfly House. Also tucked away at Nathanael Greene/Close Memorial Park, the Gray/ Campbell Farmstead is trip through history, with cabins, barns and the one-room Liberty School illustrating 1800’s life in the Ozarks.  Valley Water Mill Equestrian Center “Horse Tales” literacy program for first graders.  Park pavilions available to reserve for school groups.  Picnic space available; reservation required. SLT offers many ways to bring the performing arts to your group, or bring your group to us! History Museum on the Square

History Museum on the Square’s “Trunks, Trips, and Talks” offer a wide variety of educational opportunities for students of all ages. The museum’s seven interactive galleries feature the Native American experience, Pioneers, the Civil War, the Wild West, Transportation, and Route 66. In addition to selfguided field trips, “Meet Missouri” programming spotlights some of the area’s most notable figures and includes a museum scavenger hunt. If you can’t make it to the museum, have the museum’s presenters come to you or rent a trunk complete with an educator’s guide and meaningful items to explore. Reservations are required in advance, and completion of a fee waiver form is required for all educational groups. Program stops include the Visitor Center Museum, Ray House tour, soldier talk with musket demonstration, Civil War medical talk, Bloody Hill Hike, and the picnic pavilion to eat your sack lunch.
