It is available to youth age 20 or younger with complex behavioral health needs who are eligible for coverage under WAC 182-505-0210 and meet medical necessity criteria for WISe services. See hca.wa.gov/ Family initiated treatment (FIT) is a way for you, your family, and/or your youth to seek out behavioral health treatment. Under FIT parents are able to provide consent on behalf of youth. Consent from the youth is not required. The youth would have to meet medical necessity before treatment can be initiated.

Dr. Niran Al-Agba

As a pediatrician, I talk to parents every day about how to keep children healthy, happy and safe.

Although, it’s really by raising four children where I learn the most valuable parenting lessons.

Recently, one of my children was talking about an incident at school where a group of children were making fun of another child who couldn’t defend himself. My son asked where to draw the line on bullying.

We talked about the three main characteristics constituting bullying are: intent, repetition, and power. Bullies intend to inflict pain, whether physical or psychological. Bullying is usually a pattern of behavior. Bullying comes from a perceived position of power, whether children are bigger, stronger, or more popular.

How do we talk to your children about bullying?

1. Educate. Once our children can identify bullying, they can change it.

2. Talk. The more you talk with your children, the more comfortable they are talking with you.

3. Build Self-Confidence. Encourage children to enroll in sports or community activities. The more confident a child is, the more they can lift up others.

4. Teach. Bullying involves a perpetrator, victim and bystander. If your child witnesses bullying, they can call out the behavior and offer support, to the victim.

5. Mentor. Model behavior you want to see in your child. Show children how to be inclusive, respectful, and kind. Speak up about injustice or share stories with your children about standing up for others.

The Salmon Center is excited to start up our summer camps! These camp opportunities allow kids of all ages to adventure and learn about the natural world around them.

HCSEG’s Explore the Fjord summer The Salmon Center Farm Stewards camp is for Middle School and High Program is available for elementary School students. Explore the Fjord will school students. The gardens are open to the public from dawn to dusk, and all produce is available by donation only!

In August, you can join us on the Union River at the Summer Chum Trap to collect essential monitoring data. There are several habitat clean-up events that will be taking place on the Duckabush Estuary.
