Those seeking to improve their fitness level commonly face other unhealthy factors as it relates to whole health, which may include: stressful situations at home/work, poor sleeping, and bad eating habits. Sleep: Sleeping habits play a big part regarding physical and emotional well-being.

Our community is now home

to the first of its kind, shared living residence for young adults with physical disabilities — Champions Place, developed by Champions Community Foundation (CCF), a Johns Creek nonprofit that serves more than 80 young adults with physical disabilities. Champions Place is a suite-style apartment model that offers an incredible opportunity for young adults with physical disabilities to lead independent and productive lives and experience life to its fullest.

Champions Place offers sixteen suites sectioned into quads with common areas and accessible kitchenettes and a main living room, private dining room, and accessible main kitchen to accommodate family style dinners and large group functions. As explained by Rick Thompson, Executive Director of CCF, “Everything in this building is designed with state of the art technology customized to the abilities and needs of the

residents to enable them to control their environment and perform daily tasks independently. At Champions Place, residents can open doors, operate TVs, lights, fans, and blinds, call friends and family, and more without anyone’s assistance.”

Champions Place also offers

ample indoor and outdoor space to function as a social hub for the more than 80 individuals served

by CCF, who meet bi-weekly to compete in wheelchair sports and to enjoy social activities.

“The Titans wheelchair sports program started in 2009 when my son aged out of community programs for the physically disabled, leaving him and others like him with no means to enjoy physical activity or to socialize.

Opportunities like this are important for this group of citizens, who are often isolated from the community and from friends, because most homes can’t accommodate multiple wheelchairs.”

Champions Place will open

for residents in Fall, 2020 and welcomes volunteers to get involved by cooking a meal or hosting events like game nights, coffee houses, or book clubs.

“You will want to get to know the residents,” say Rick. “People are generally unaware and/or misunderstand the intellectual and physical capabilities of these young adults — most are high school and college graduates who want to live independent lives and be engaged usefully, effectively, and socially within this community.”

At Champions Place, young adults with physical disabilities can lead independent and productive lives and experience life to its fullest.

Best Avocado Toast Ingredients: 6 slices whole grain bread, toasted 1 Hass avocado, halved, seeded, peeled, and cut into 6 wedges 2 medium ripe tomatoes, thinly sliced 1½ cups thinly sliced cucumber 1 to 2 cups baby romaine lettuce or spinach ½ to ⅔ cup fresh alfalfa sprouts (optional) Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste 2 tablespoons lemon juice

Directions: Spread each toasted bread slice with an avocado wedge. Top with tomato, cucumber, lettuce, and, if desired, alfalfa sprouts.

Sprinkle with salt and pepper and drizzle with lemon juice. Serve immediately.
