y Delight 2, 120 sq. house, I use the circle and square to convey cultural and social issue that an Asian family have to encounter when arrive to Western Australian culture. The square and circle represent the interaction of 2 different cultures, they meet, they collide, they struggle to fit in, but finally they form a new identity in order to adapt better. Applying that final geometry onto the section and extrude it along one side, I got a hybrid form that can be divided into 2 components for functional purposes.

CONCEPT BUDDHIST GEOMETRY

The atrium connects all the floors together with the altar in the middle. In this case, the altar is not approachable since its only hung down from the rib, but can be seen from any corner of the house. The rub cage turns out to be a recreational space where the grandparents can do some gardening, it can also contribute to scenery of the neighbourhood since it looks like a green house from that elevation. kids

The surge in number of travellers and flights at Melbourne Tullamarine international airport has caused severe congestion and other issues that strongly affect service quality of the airport. This studio that I took in my fourth year aimed to explore a solution to this problem As mentioned in Melbourne Airport Master plan 2015, an additional international airport has been discussed to be the answer. Tooradin - a town located 57km south east from the central district was considered to be an ideal option to place the new airport. My response to the brief is an airport that is ultimately adaptive and flexible for the future expansion need to cope with Melbourne’s continuous growth. The concept originates from “fractal” idea that illustrates the infinite growth in nature following mathematical colleration.

THESIS PROPOSAL A report by the City of Melbourne analysed the burdened trend of increasingly small apartments being built over the last decade. These have become the top concerns for Victorians living in apartments. Consequentially, apartment design guidelines are being drafted to address and rectify these issues for prospective apartment designs. Nevertheless, this guideline has raised number of controversial topics. These topics all revolve around affordability, energy consumption and spatial efficiency.

SITE ANALYSIS

Firstly, larger apartment means larger price and obviously this makes it harder for residents to purchase, even firsthome buyers or working-class people would be eliminated. That surely will place a bigger burden for housing market because property price has already terrifyingly increased over recent years. Secondly, larger apartment means larger energy consumption, even for each individual household. Studies have shown most of energy used monthly goes to spatial heating and cooling, which means the larger the space is, the more residents must pay for their energy bills.

6 LEVELS STUDENT ACCOMMODATION

220 BARKLY STREET, FOOTSCRAY

Thirdly, in term of spatial usage, it is argued that standard sized apartment is not as efficiently used as smaller ones. Therefore, This Nightingale Jenga Model aims to explore the potentials of micro-apartments in order to improve apartment living’s affordability, decelerate domestic energy consumption’s surge as well as enhance spatial usage efficiency.

INDOOR MARKET

NORTHERN ENTRANCE

The indoor market activates the groundfloor with changeable programs and short-term lease. The shops are pixelated into small shopping stalls that are allowed to spill onto the street, as a way to engage the building with surround context. This also celebrates the informal trading typology that is usually observed at Footscray.

The northern entrance is directly linked with the northern laneway which is also a possible local link on the site. The laneway enhances the interaction of indoor and outdoor, contributes to local activities.
