The Los Angeles Lakers

by Christian Peters The Los Angeles Lakers are in 1st place in the Western Conference, in front of the Los Angeles Clippers. In the off-season, the Lakers traded away 2017 first-round pick Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Josh Hart for five-time all-star Anthony Davis. The Lakers signed Danny Green and Demarcus Cousins. They fired Luke Walton and hired Frank Vogel. They also signed Dwight Howard and re-signed Rajon Rondo They missed out on Kawhi Leonard and Kyrie Irving, Klay Thompson, Kemba Walker, Paul George, and Jimmy Butler. The Lakers’ Alex Caruso, Anthony Davis, And LeBron James all might make the All-Star Game in Chicago. Dwight Howard is in the Dunk Contest. The Lakers have made up for last year when they fell way short of the playoffs. The Lakers are a playoff contender and maybe even a championship-caliber team. Maybe they should get Jrue Holiday or Derrick Rose. They really need a guy that can shoot 3 pointers. They should trade Kyle Kuzma, they could get a lot out of him. The End

One Day at the Pool

by Ella Grace McLamb One day, in the middle of the summer, I invited Blair to the pool. When we got to the pool, we immediately went to the waterslide. We went down it and had so much fun! Next, we swam for about an hour. Then we went down the slide again, but at the very bottom, it went BLACK! I felt refreshing water on my face, but could see it. Blair suddenly screamed, but her scream faded. As it faded, I realized I was no longer in the pool, but in a small shallow lake. I heard some weird noises, so I walked through some trees, then I saw Mary writing a pterodactyl! I called her name but she didn’t answer me. I thought it was a good idea to get a closer look. Just then a baby pterodactyl came trotting to me. Its bright turquoise color was not hard to spot along with his dark blue geodes for wings. He let me pet him, so I decided to ride him over to a lake to be safe. Once he was fully trained, I named him Jimmy. Mary and I decided to fight over our dinosaurs. In the middle of the fight, Crosby and Maddie came out of the lake and told us to stop fighting. We flew to the ground, and said goodbye to our dinosaurs. Then we all jumped into the lake and came out of the bottom of the water slide. The end.

War of 1812

by Connor Mooney Let me tell you about a story when I traveled back in time to the War of 1812. When I got there, I felt lucky because my class had just been learning about the war so I was able to tell where I was pretty quickly. In 1812, James Madison was President of the United States. Also, Britain was fighting a war against France, which was currently led by Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. I was able to become the youngest person to be a member of the U.S. Cabinet. As a member of the Cabinet, I helped and convinced President James Madison to wage a war against Great Britain. I came up with this idea because of the British imprisoning sailors from the US Navy, plus, the US needed more land for expansion. Finally, the British were giving Native Americans weapons, so they could fight us.

Now I will tell you about the actual fighting that I was involved in. First, some American soldiers burned down the Canadian Parliament. It was a great victory for the United States. In 1813, some Sailors were commanded by Oliver Hazard Perry to defeat British ships on Lake Erie. The attack was successful. Then, I was led by William Henry Harrison to defeat the British at the Battle of the Thames again. The attack was successful. In 1814, America received a huge blow when the British burned down the White House and some other Federal buildings. A few days later Francis Scott Key wrote America’s future national anthem. In December 1814, the Treaty of Ghent ended the war. In January 1815, Andrew Jackson led some troops to defeat the British in the Battle of New Orleans. Both sides fought the Battle without knowing about the Treaty. After the battle, I realized I was thirsty. I saw a Gatorade bottle on the battlefield, and when I drank it, instantly I was back home. The end.

My Dream of the War of 1812

by Joshua Potier One night, I was sound asleep in my queen bed. I was having the craziest dream of all time. It all started like this. Like I said, I was sound asleep in my bed until the guy named Schomp kidnapped me. I was twisting and turning and seeing all these crazy lines until it all stopped. He dropped me out of the bag and dragged me on the soft and mushy dirt. As he was dragging me, I was seeing all famous places like the White House, but they looked different. It was on fire and it looked like no one was in Washington, D.C. There were some people there though, and they were British Redcoats. That’s when it hit me, I was in the War of 1812!!!

I knew a little bit about the War of 1812, but not much. For example, I knew that it was started in 1812 because the British were messing with our trade and imprisoning our sailors. Even though I knew those facts, I did not know if they would help me or not. The guy dragged me a bit longer, then I tripped him and ran away. I ran really, really far away. On my way, I met Andrew Jackson, and the future president told me I would find a time machine in Washington, D.C. So I ran all the way back to D.C., where I found the time machine and went home. That’s the end of the story, as I told my mom. It’s time for school!

The War of 1812

by Madison Angell It was a stormy afternoon in my house. My dog was frightened, and he curled up to me. My mom was gone for the weekend, and I was by myself. My mom always told me not to go in the basement because they were really special things down there. And one thing was very dangerous. But I was really wanting to see all the cool stuff down there. So I grabbed my dog and went downstairs. The door creaked open, and I saw a dark staircase. I was really scared, but I really wanted to see what was down there. I walked down the stairs and found the light switch. I flipped it on. “That’s the best it is going to get” I thought to myself. I walked forward and saw jewels, diamonds, and gold. But then there was a door. I walked through the door and saw a machine, and I pushed the numbers “1812”, and it sucked me right into it. Then I looked around and realized that I was back in time, to the War of 1812. I thought, “Are you kidding me?” I met an old lady named Jenna and she said, “Do you know anything about the War of 1812?” I said, “No, Ma’am.” So she said, “If you want to leave and go back into your time, you have to know some facts about the War of 1812.” I said “Okay” and the lady told me some amazing facts. Here they are:

In the early 1800s, Great Britain was fighting a war against the French. Great Britain was fighting a war against the French. The U.S. was not in this war. Great Britain tried to keep U.S. ships and force them to join the British Navy. It was the second war between the U.S. and Great Britain. The U.S. won independence in the first war, the American Revolution. I said, “Wow! I didn’t know that before!” I said thank you to the lady and she sent me back to my time. When I got back, I ran upstairs and sat on the couch and looked up more facts of the War of 1812.

My Historical Dream

by Blair Arberg I was sitting there, and I was really bored, so I went into our garage. Our garage is where my dad does all his work stuff, and he made this big silver thing with a red button. The button looked really cool, so I pressed it and everything went black. When I opened my eyes, I was in Washington DC. I was really confused and when I stood up, I saw the British army burning down the White House. James Madison was the president at the time, and Dolly Madison had managed to save a copy of the Declaration of Independence and a portrait of George Washington! Then I realized I was in the middle of the War of 1812. The Americans were poorly trained, and the British were the top army. The War of 1812 was about three years long. Francis Scott Key wrote The Star Spangled Banner at the time. Francis was in jail, and when he saw all the bombing he was scared about the flag. When Francis woke up in the morning, the flag was still there. That's how the Star Spangled Banner. I walked around a little bit more and got on a carriage, which took me to New Orleans. There was a battle going on there even though the British and Americans had signed a treaty. The Americans had won the war. Yay! I went over to a tree and sat down. I looked up at a branch, and there was a button. I stood up, reached for the button and pressed it. Everything went black and when I opened my eyes, I was back at my house again.
