Franco Mostert will be a key man in the three-Test series against the British & Irish Lions. A player who often doesn’t receive the praise he deserves, Mostert’s value to the Springboks in this series was driven up by injuries to Lood de Jager and RG Snyman. Though his career quickly shifted gears after making his Test debut in 2017, Am took the back roads to arrive in the Bok starting XV. His career began with provincial minnows such as the Valke, Border and Eastern Province where his long-term career prospects break that is often difficult to find when performing away from the spotlight dominated by the bigger unions. Am refused to be defined by his somewhat unfashionable surroundings and held onto the belief that hard work would eventually pay off. Stuart Hogg – along with SA-born winger Duhan van der Merwe and scrumhalf Ali Price – will end that drought at Cape Town Stadium this evening. The Scotland captain may not be the tallest in stature, but in rugby terms he is a giant. Assessing Hogg’s can’t be done without appreciating his attacking prowess.
