Customer Service is EVERYONE!

H

ave you ever walked into a store and there are employees going about their business but no one acknowledges you? You end up acknowledging them first. Have you ever had a business tell you they cannot resolve your problem? “Sorry, but that’s just the way it is.” Or, been on a phone line for minutes but it seems like hours waiting for help? What about waiting on the I.T. person within your company to help you with your computer or phone problem? You may think that some of these things cannot be helped. People are busy. They have plenty of other things they need to get done. “It’s just the way it is.” I totally disagree with these statements! Your customer is the reason why you have a business in the first place. If you can, take your phones off the automated system and have them answered personally. If not, put in place a system where the customer can leave a call-back number and his or her call will be returned. Always be on the look-out at your front door for your customers. If you can’t be in the front, attach a bell so you can hear the door open. If you don’t have an answer to their problem, refer them to another company who can help. That may seem scary but it is more important to help the customer resolve their problem. Even your co-workers may be your “internal” customers. Always be willing to help them and respond to them in a timely and prompt manner. And……whether in person or on the phone, always have a smile. Few specific businesses have “long-term customer relationships.” Therefore, it is very important that every single person who calls on the phone or comes through your door feel welcomed and important. You may think I set high standards on how to treat customers. However, I feel the standards in some businesses have come down. Think about ways you can raise your standards on how to treat the most important asset of your business – your customer – and they will return. “Your customer doesn’t care how much you know until they know how much you care.” ~ Damon Richards Kaye Walraven Chairman of the Board

his report is compiled by CalChamber for the 2014 legislative session, and focuses on California legislators’ floor votes on California Chamber of Commerce priority bills. The CalChamber publishes this report in response to numerous requests by member firms and local chambers of commerce that would like a gauge by which to measure the performance of their legislators. No vote record can tell the entire story of a legislator’s attitude and actions on issues of importance to business. Each year, legislators cast thousands of votes on thousands of proposed laws. To fully evaluate your legislative representative, consult the legislative journals and examine your legislator’s votes in committee and on floor issues. You can view the full records by visiting www.calchamber.com.
