High

Hopes fosters a vibrant community where horse and human interactions improve lives.

Stronger together!

This year we have seen remarkable demonstrations of strength and resilience. As the pandemic lingers, challenges persist, and life creates a “new normal,” it is the unfailing belief in the mission and vision of High Hopes within the community, which support the breadth of Equine Assisted Services we provide. Volunteers, participants, families, individual donors, corporate partners, foundations and businesses holding true, holding strong and keeping High Hopes and those we serve in the forefront. Thank you for your strength as we all build a more resilient community.

Bonds of Strength

Over the past two years, we have all experienced great changes in the way we go about our lives and how we connect to people and programs that matter most. For mission-based organizations, continued delivery of programs and services required innovative approaches. At High Hopes, our dedicated community embraced innovation to safeguard our mission of improving lives through horse and human interactions. We emerged as a community united and stronger.

Strength comes from many inspirational sources. At High Hopes, we’re proud of our Strength through Learning, Strength through Community, and Strength through Philanthropy. In this year’s annual report, we celebrate Strength with a reflective thank you.

4 HIGH HOPES THERAPEUTIC RIDING 2021–22

Strength is in helping someone grow – a once fearful child develops trust in their horse, a non-verbal child learns the power of words, someone with an uncooperative body develops the strength and skill to go off lead for the first time. It’s not just about large horses and small humans, it’s about trust. Strength, to some degree, is about trust – trusting the instructor, the horse, and the inherent power of the horse-human interaction.”

Strength through Learning

Sharing knowledge with others is deeply rooted in the culture of High Hopes. Therapeutic Riding as an industry is unique in the willingness of professionals to share their expertise. At High Hopes, that knowledge extends to our volunteers, participants, families and professionals outside of the therapeutic riding realm. Since 1995, High Hopes has been providing instructor education to individuals from all over the world. Within our own community, we provide ongoing education to our volunteers. Learning together, feeding the inquisitive mind, striving to become better and more than what we are today, builds strength and resilience. We have all learned lessons through the pandemic which have helped to make us stronger together.

Strength through Community

Community has special meaning and is often based on our experiences. The experience of feeling a sense of community includes both feeling like we have what we need, and also feeling a sense of responsibility for others. At High Hopes, it is common to define our community as the wonderful blending of participants and their families, volunteers, donors, staff, and advocates. Based on our geographic location surrounded by serviceoriented towns and villages, the High Hopes community is so much more. Importantly, it includes the business partners who provide critical donated services to ensure we tell our story passionately to a wide audience. It is the business partners who support Horse Show Days, the Annual Benefit, and the Holiday Market – helping to raise awareness about our mission. Through a strong business community, our generous partners provide critical financial resources to ensure the highest quality of our programs and services. We are excited to redefine these relationships as High Hopes Community Partners and welcome deep and meaningful business connections year-round.

Strength through Philanthropy

“Creating a solid foundation for the future”–words of wisdom from Roger Smith. Roger and Marcia Smith have long been part of the foundation of High Hopes. From active program volunteers to Board leadership, they have both committed many hours of love and dedication to ensure that High Hopes remains a significant part of the community and an impactful part of the lives of people within that community. In their actions and words, their entire family ensures that High Hopes has the financial resources to continue its vital work. During the Share Hope campaign, Roger’s visionary forethought established an endowed fund to support succession planning. Our recent investment in the Development program and its leadership was made substantially easier by this impactful gift. Philanthropy is truly what gives strength to High Hopes. We thank Roger and Marcia and all High Hopes donors for their thoughtfulness and generosity.
