BEN-Y-VRACKIE A walk up the Ben is a good way to spend a day, the walk from Pitlochry and back would take in the region of 4 - 8 hours dependant on speed & ability, and you could catch glimpses of mountain hare, deer & red grouse. There is a well-worn path, which is quite uneven in places and quite challenging.
The views across Perthshire from the top are stunning, particularly towards the Beinn a’ Ghlo & the the Cairngorms. The weather at the top can be a lot cooler, and windier than in Pitlochry, so dress accordingly. www.benvrackie.co.uk
To get started, head towards the Pitlochry Golf Club, the path to Craigower leads you across the course itself, and up to a forestry track, just to the left you will see a wooden post marking the start of the steep trail – there are glorious views across Pitlochry and up to Loch Tummel, Loch Rannoch and beyond to Glencoe on a clear day!
Pop into the clubhouse for refreshments on the way back to town!

LOCH DUNMORE in the Faskally Woods is a lovely place for a walk just outside of Pitlochry - this is where the Enchanted Forest is held during October each year. The main track is a figure of 8 around the loch and over a wooden bridge, and is around 1km, but there are lots of other walking routes so you can easily extend the walk if you like. You can also walk from Pitlochry to join the Dunmore loop, just head down Clunie Bridge Road, past the Pitlochry Boating Station. The loch gets covered in water lilies in the summer months and often freezes over completely in Winter. You can often see ducks, swans and herons, and the occasional Kingfisher if you are lucky! For a short while in springtime, you can see lots of tiny frogs too –mind your feet! Many fish species including sticklebacks, carp and tench call the loch home and coarse fishing is available. There is lots of parking in the surrounding woods, with picnic benches and a public toilet. The main track around the loch is suitable for wheelchairs and prams, and disabled parking is available.
