AZ Auction Guide

Dear Friends,

On behalf of Visit Phoenix, welcome to our sunny hometown. We are thrilled to host the 2018 automobile auction season here in the cosmopolitan heart of the Grand Canyon State.

I think you’ll find Greater Phoenix has everything you need to make your visit memorable, from sophisticated conference facilities to luxurious accommodations to inspired fine dining. In between bidding sessions, I hope you can make time to relax and enjoy the warm weather and desert scenery that attract more than 22 million visitors to Greater Phoenix each year.

I know it can be tempting to spend all your free time lounging by a swimming pool, but I encourage you to explore the breadths of our diverse city. Enjoy a round of golf. Learn the stories of the Southwest’s Native American tribes at The Heard Museum. Admire the architectural genius of Frank Lloyd Wright with a tour of Taliesin West. Take a guided tour of the Sonoran Desert in the basket of a hot-air balloon, the saddle of a horse or the backseat of a Jeep. And, by all means, soak up the sun and stars: There’s a reason so many of Greater Phoenix’s restaurants and nightlife spots have outdoor patios. We wish you a successful and productive auction and meeting. Enjoy your stay.

Here, you can discover the Sonoran Desert on a cactus-lined hiking trail or take a boat ride or try paddleboarding at Tempe Town Lake. The Arizona State University Tempe Campus is full of gems including Broadway shows at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed ASU Gammage, contemporary art at ASU Art Museum and discoveries from earth and beyond at the Gallery of Scientific Exploration.

You’ll find dozens of restaurants, taverns and shops in historic, pedestrian-friendly Downtown Tempe, including the iconic Mill Avenue. Tempe Marketplace is a popular spot for dining, shopping and entertainment. And, Arizona Mills is a must for serious shoppers with a unique mix of traditional, outlet and value retailers and attractions such as SEA LIFE Arizona Aquarium and Harkins IMAX Theater.

Taste local microbrews, listen to live music or sample cuisine from around the world. Here, the list of things to do is as long as it is unexpected. Located in the heart of the Metropolitan Phoenix area, Tempe is easily accessible via four freeways and Valley Metro Rail. It is also just 10 minutes from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. National Motor Museum, Beaulieu, U.K. by David M. Brown A 13th-century abbey; a 16th-century palace; an 1875 Grenville steam carriage, probably the oldest running self-propelled passenger-carrying road vehicle; 20th-century land-speed record breakers; and a contemporary oversized orange Mini, neither historic nor fast: The National Motor Museum in Beaulieu, England, has assembled these and other automotive thrills into one must-visit package. Comprising 250-plus vehicles, the world-famous collection celebrates 800 years of British history and almost 140 years of automobiles, from early days to modern times, including family vehicles, great sports cars, early motorcycles and commercial vehicles. At the head of the Beaulieu River, the village of Beaulieu is in New Forest National Park, near Southampton and Bournemouth, two hours from London by car or train to Brockenhurst, where taxis are available to the museum. In April 1952, Edward, Lord Montagu, opened up his ancestral home, Palace House at Beaulieu, to the public for the first time. Formerly the Great Gatehouse for Beaulieu Abbey, built in 1203/04, Palace House has been home to the Montagu’s since 1538 during the reign

of Henry VIII, who dissolved the country’s monasteries as part of the English Reformation. Edward’s father John, Lord Montagu, was a pioneering motorist and founded an early motoring magazine, The Car Illustrated, so he showed a small collection of five veteran cars in the entrance hall of the house. “The collection grew from these humble beginnings, moving to purpose-made buildings in the grounds of Palace House to become the Montagu Motor Museum,” says Ben Wanklyn, its public relations executive. In 1972, a 70,000-square-foot building was opened as today’s National Motor Museum. Car and Outside-the-Car Experiences Automotive activities include Jack Tucker’s Garage, which recreates the sights, sounds and smells of a typical country garage from the 1930s and the talking crash test dummy in Driving Change, an interactive display exploring motoring innovations and technologies including alternative power in the future. On Screen Cars displays TV and film favorites including Del Boy’s Reliant Regal as featured in the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses and the flying Ford

Anglia used during the filming of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. A recent addition is Dr. Who’s muchloved car Bessie. Special museum displays also include “For Britain & For The Hell Of It” featuring Beaulieu’s land speedrecord cars; “The Motorcycle Story”; “Grand Prix Greats and Road, Race and Rally,” with F1, rallying, trials and drag racing exhibits as well as clothing, trophies, photographs, film and video of both track and road racing from the start through the present. Nonautomotive attractions include a film presentation and an exhibition of the daily life of the Cistercian Monks, founders of the abbey. In the Palace House, visitors can see late Lord Montagu’s private apartment, including his library. An exhibition, “The Lady and the Rebel,” tells the story of two extraordinary Montagu women, Pearl Pleydell-Bouverie and Elizabeth Montagu. Beaulieu has opened the newly restored Victorian Kitchen at Palace House where you can see Lord Montagu’s cook preparing authentic dishes on the range during school holidays. Her homemade cakes, biscuits and preserves are also on sale in the kitchen shop. Another section of the palace was the country’s first Soviet Russian art gallery. The exhibition, “Secret Army,” tells the story of the Special Operations Executive (SOE), which trained secret agents at the Beaulieu ‘Finishing School’ during WWll. “The agents were trained at large country houses scattered across the Beaulieu Estate before returning to occupied Europe to work with Resistance groups,” he says. “Many did not return.” Outside, enjoy the Victorian Flower Garden, the informal Wilderness Garden, dating to the 1770s, and the Ornamental Kitchen Garden laid out on the site of the original 1872 Palace House kitchen garden. Visitors can ride the monorail for an overhead look at the museum or the replica 1912 open-topped London Bus. All year, the Beaulieu schedules automotive events. Among these are April 29, 2018, when “Simply Audi” will celebrate the marque in one of the museum’s numerous rallies, and on June 24, Beaulieu will mark the 70th anniversary of the Land Rover. New for 2018 is “The Luxury of Motoring,” comprising 28 glistening Lalique glass miniatures of the most luxurious cars ever and tells the story of their design, their owners and the chauffeurs who drove them. The new Chief Engineer Tour opens the door to Beaulieu’s workshop, where visitors meet with National Motor Museum Manager and Chief Engineer Doug Hill, who began as an apprentice at Beaulieu 40 years ago.

GreatGarages And, the new-look “World of Top Gear” reflects the changes to the BBC motoring show with the impressive Ssangyacht, built from the “world’s ugliest people carrier” and a marine feature displaying boat challenge vehicles.

Lotus team cars, this Formula 1 landmark racer was built on the eve of that year’s British Grand Prix for Graham Hill and then used by the ace driver for the rest of the season. Kept in working order, the Lotus often appears at shows and events.

The Collection Here’s a look at some of the holdings of the National Museum:

•1930 ‘Blower’ Bentley 4.5-litre Supercharged –– This is one of the museum’s vehicles appearing frequently at events across the United Kingdom and Europe.

•1903 De Dion Bouton 6hp Model Q –– The Montagu family has owned this since 1913, and it began the museum collection as one of the cars first displayed in Palace House in 1952. Since that decade, this pioneering car has been a regular entrant in the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run.

•Bluebird CN7 –– On July 17, 1964, Donald Campbell set a new World Land Speed Record of 403.10 mph/ 648.73 kph in this car, powered by a Bristol-Siddeley Proteus 4,100-horsepower gas turbine engine. After a disastrous crash at Bonneville, Utah in 1960, the tail fin was added. Lake Eyre, South Australia, was then chosen because it was a desolate, flat salt plain, but a series of frustrations delayed the final record for two years.

•1909 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost –– This began as a limousine, continued its life as a hearse and then morphed into a tow-truck. Edward, Lord Montagu, acquired it in the 1950s and restored it with a replica Barker Roi des Belges body. •1972 Outspan Orange Mini –– Six of these distinctive vehicles were built between 1972 and 1974 to promote Outspan Oranges. They were constructed by Brian Waite Enterprises Ltd. and incorporated many components from the popular Mini. Five were used for advertising in Britain, France and Germany while one was shipped to South Africa. Sweet! •1967 Lotus 49 –– The sole survivor of the 1967

The highest priority for this seller was time, as this Carefree home had been listed on MLS three times for 6.5-plus years. In cooperation with partner agents, Frank Aazami, Dawn Dickinson, and Jan Lilly of Russ Lyon Sotheby’s International Realty, Concierge sold this in just 40 days of exposure, with 63 open house visitors, 42 qualified showings and seven registered bidders.

The Private Client Group/Concierge Auctions partnership sold this Scottsdale home, unique in style and floor plan. In cooperation with partner listing agents, just 48 days of exposure resulted in 69 open house visitors, 35 qualified showings and nine registered bidders.

“The Private Client Group and Concierge Auctions sold this north Scottsdale home in 2012 for $5.35 million; the same property sold two years later in a better market for $5.1 million, plus the seller offered ‘seller carry terms,’” Aazami says.

“Many people don’t have to sell but are frankly tired of waiting for the market to come back,” Aazami explains. “This auction is designed just for them: sellers who highly value their time, would prefer the certainty of sale now and still expect a white glove, high-touch experience. “For decades, we have witnessed the success at Sotheby’s Auction House, and that is exactly what we will be doing at the end of January in Phoenix,” Aazami adds. “Auctions like this can successfully sell the finer tangibles in life. Our objective is to strike a conversation, motivate people who have been sitting on the fence and get their property sold in the process.” Why Concierge Auctions? Concierge Auctions, based in New York City, has worked in 38 states and 18 countries. The firm recently targeted two portfolio-style sales similar to this one toward Chinese buyers, which resulted in great success. Total worldwide sales for the company exceed $1.5 billion, and 2017 trophy sales include a water-

front Château in Geneva, Switzerland, and a nearly $40 -million residence in Dallas, Texas. The properties for the Arizona event will be uploaded to ConciergeAuctions.com during the first two weeks of January and will be updated through the morning of the auction. Aazami and Concierge Auctions are planning preview events at each of the portfolio properties in January, coinciding with two of the car auctions, Barrett-Jackson and RM Sotheby’s in, respectively, Scottsdale and Phoenix between January 13 and 21. These will be updated to the website. “This first event will certainly become an annual ‘auction after the auctions’ in the Valley of the Sun,” Aazami says. “We welcome your interest.” For more information or to register for the auction, please contact Aazami at e-mail, frank@pcgAgents.com; text “SIRFAAZAMI” to 87778; call 480.266.0240; and see PrivateClientGroupAgents.com. 1958 Porsche 550A Spyder (Lot 44)

1991 Ferrari F40 (Lot 28)

BONHAMS SCOTTSDALE AUCTION — JANUARY 18 by David M. Brown A multiple podium-placing works Porsche, four Ferraris and the first Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster imported into the United States: These classics lead a stellar docket of 100-plus classic sports and racing cars for the seventh-annual Bonhams Scottsdale Auction, which returns to the Westin Kierland Resort & Spa, 6902 E. Greenway Parkway, January 18. The auction, including automobilia, begins at 11 a.m. on January 19. The preview days are Tuesday and Wednesday, January 17 and 18, 9 a.m.−6 p.m. The 1958 Porsche 550A Spyder, chassis number 0145, is one of just 40 built, participated in four world championship races and is believed to be the only 550A to compete in a Grand Prix. The racing pedigree includes a second in class and fifth overall at the 24 Hours of Le Mans and class wins at the Nürburgring 1000 Km, 12 Hours of Reims, Zandvoort NAV, and Class Winner at the Dutch Grand Prix, among others. Actor James Dean loved the original 550 for its beauty, speed and nimbleness and this, its successor, bettered that. Its 1.5-liter, four-cam, flat-four engine sits on a space-frame chassis instead of the previous ladder frame and features trailing-arm suspension instead of swing axles, for example. “The weight reduction and superior stability allowed the 550A to punch far above its weight class and compete successfully against much bigger-displacement Ferrari and Aston Martin race cars, making it the ‘The Giant Killer,’” says Jakob Greisen, vice president of Bonhams U.S. Motoring Department. “It’s one of the best original examples extant. Simply put, it’s among the most important cars of its kind in the world.”

All Pinanfarina designed and Ferrari Classiche Certified, the four Prancing Stallions are a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4, 1972 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider, 1974 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS and a 1991 Ferrari F40. The matching-numbers 275 GTB/4 has fewer than 32,000 original miles and, also matching-numbers, the Dino has even fewer, 28,000, and retains its original interior and largely factory paint. Also matching numbers, the Daytona Spider features a superb restoration by Junior Conway and Junior’s House of Color and is a Ferrari Club of America Platinum Award-winning example. And the completely original, U.S.-specification 1991 Ferrari F40 remarkably carries fewer than 2,500 miles from new and was tended to by a factory technician. Finally, the classic 300SL Roadster, confirmed by Mercedes-Benz Classic Center as the first imported to the United States, received a full restoration by marque expert Mark Allin Rare Drive Inc. and has had just three owners. “This matching numbers Mercedes-Benz features more than 60 unique prototype details throughout the bodywork and chassis,” Greisen says. “It’s really the best of the best.” Entry to the auction is $20, which includes a gallery guide. 1956 Jaguar D-Type (Lot 055)

1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale (Lot 134)

GOODING & COMPANY’S SCOTTSDALE AUCTIONS –– JANUARY 19 & 20 by David M. Brown Approximately 130 premier collectibles, led by a 1956 Jaguar D-Type, a very special 1965 Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale and a 2014 Pagani Hauyra, are docketed for the 11th Gooding & Company’s Scottsdale Auctions, Friday, January 19, and Saturday, January 20, at Scottsdale Fashion Square, 4700 North Scottsdale Road, on the corner of East Highland Avenue. The auction begins both days at 11 a.m. and continues until the docket is completed. The public preview is 9 a.m.–6 p.m. Wednesday, January 17–Friday, January 19, and 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Saturday, January 20. The Sports Car Market Insider’s Seminar is Thursday, January 18, 9:30–11:30 a.m. in the auction tent. “Each January our team shows off their market expertise in curating a diverse lineup of cars, many of which are fresh to the market. We strive to offer something for all collecting tastes and present cars that we as enthusiasts are excited about and show our passion for automotive excellence,” says David Gooding, president and founder of Santa Monica, Calif.-based Gooding & Company. A replacement for the C-Type, the Jaguar D-Type delivered three consecutive overall wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1955, 1956, and 1957), and this car was owned by British racing driver Peter Blond, who raced it successfully until 1957, including a win at the Snetterton National Race. Restored to its original appearance in 1992, the Ferrari 275 GTB Speciale, chassis 06437, is the only 275 GTB designed and built by the legendary house of Carrozzeria Pininfarina, rather than by Scaglietti,

and was personally used by Battista Pininfarina. The Hauyra, capable of 230-plus mph and startto-60 mph acceleration below three seconds, is number 87 of the 100 produced and is believed to be the only one special ordered in Carbonio Russo, an exposed red carbon fiber body. The lightweight exotic has traveled less than 1,000 miles and includes the original tools, manuals and special-order luggage. Joining this on the docket is a 1959 Aston Martin DB Mk III Drophead Coupe, one of approximately 10 left-hand drive examples fitted with the optional high-performance triple-carbureted DBD engine; a matching-numbers, Pininfarina-styled 1967 Ferrari 330 GTS Spider, one of only 99; and a 1989 De Tomaso Pantera GT5-S, chassis 9547, one of 136 of the final model for the marque. “You won’t want to miss the thrill of record-breaking results, our unrivaled hospitality and the captivating enthusiasm exuded by auctioneer Charlie Ross,” Gooding says. “I invite you to join our welcoming staff and fellow enthusiasts in celebrating these rare, often unseen, collectibles.” The bidder registration of $200 includes a catalog, admission for two to the viewing and auction with two reserved seats, subject to availability. General admission is $40 and includes admission for one to the viewing and the auctions or you can purchase a catalog for $100, which includes two admission tickets for viewing and auction. 1964 Ferrari 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti (Lot 240)

1921 Alfa Romeo G1 (Lot 236)

RM SOTHEBY’S ARIZONA –– JANUARY 18 & 19 by David M. Brown Two Ferrari’s, a 1960 250 GT Cabriolet Series II, styled by Pinin Farina, a 1964 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso by Scaglietti and two Alfa Romeo’s, a 1955 1900C SS Speciale by Boano and a 1921 G1, are among the approximately 160 pre-war classics, sports, racing greats and contemporary supercars to be offered at RM Sotheby’s two-day 19th-annual Arizona auction, January 18 and 19, at the Arizona Biltmore Resort & Spa in Phoenix. Preview days are Wednesday, January 17, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST, Thursday and January 18, and Friday, January 19, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. MST daily. The car auction begins Thursday and Friday at 5 p.m. MST and finishes up each evening at approximately 9 p.m. The Arizona event includes “A Century of Sports Cars,” eleven automobiles offered without reserve from a California collector. From this group is the 1921 G1, chassis no. 6018, the first model produced from the union of A.L.F.A. (Anonima Lombarda Fabbrica Automobili) and entrepreneur Nicola Romeo. Built to compete against the world’s best, the G1 was Alfa Romeo’s first six-cylinder model and is one of just 52 built. Twice awarded at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, most recently in 2013, this only complete G1 in existence also participated in the 2014 Mille Miglia and the 75th Goodwood Members Meeting and was displayed in 2015 at Museo Enzo Ferrari in Modena, Italy. The 1955 Alfa Romeo 1900C SS Speciale, with coachwork by Boano, chassis no. AR1900C 01846, was Boano’s 1955 Torino Motor Show car and returned

46

to the stand at the 2014 Retromobile in Paris and again the following year during the invitation-only Preservation Class at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Expertly restored and returned to its original color combination, the beautifully sinuous car just won its class at Pebble Beach in 2017. The Blue Sera-over-Beige 250 GT/L Berlinetta Lusso, chassis no. 5537 GT, received a cosmetic restoration in 2013, immediately gaining it Best in Class at the 2014 Arizona Concours d’Elegance. And, the 1960 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pinin Farina, chassis no. 1939, is the 39th of just 200 second-series Pinin Farina Cabriolets built and was completely restored in 2000. “With the highest overall sales, sell-through rate and number of cars sold above low estimate during Arizona Car Week in 2017, we intend to continue our strong track record in the New Year,” says Shelby Myers, car specialist for RM Sotheby’s. The bidder registration is $200, which includes a catalog and admission for two to the preview and auction. Admission to the preview is open to the public during preview hours only. Admission to the auctions on Thursday and Friday is for registered bidders, consignors and qualified media only. If you can’t attend, absentee, Internet, and telephone bidding options are available, and the auction will stream live online at rmsothebys.com, where additional information on the event can be found as well. 1948 Delahaye Chapron’s Dandy Grand Luxe (Consignment #2109)

1967 ASA 1100 Spyder (Consignment #2118)

RUSSO AND STEELE SCOTTSDALE AUCTION — JANUARY 18−21 by David M. Brown You’ll be ‘Sold! Sold! Sold!’ on the 18th Russo and Steele Scottsdale Auction, January 17–21, which returns to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, off the Loop 101, just east of Scottsdale. More the 800 cars will be offered, 130-plus vendors will participate and 55,000 attendees are expected for the 18th Scottsdale event, noted among enthusiasts as “The World’s Most Exciting Collector Automobile Auction” for its “auction in the round” format. Among the docketed vehicles are a 1964 Chevrolet Cheetah, 1948 Delahaye Chapron’s Dandy Grand Luxe, 1967 ASA 1100 Spider and a 1967 Chevrolet Corvette. “We have a completely redesigned layout this year. The new layout will help us service our increasing number of high-quality offerings and our ever-growing legion of visitors,” says Drew Alcazar, auction president and CEO of Scottsdale-based Russo and Steele’s Collector Automobile Auctions, which also has annual events in June at Newport Beach and August at Monterey, California. That new layout features the Main Auction Pavilion on all asphalt, and the main entrance will be through the new indoor, climate-controlled, on-asphalt 13,000square-foot Vendor Pavilion. Other new features are a food-court-style seating area for the Food Truck Showcase, a JumboTron streaming the live auction and direct access to the Main Auction Pavilion. The auction preview is Wednesday January 17, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., and the action begins at noon daily Thursday, January 18, through Saturday, January 20, and at 11 a.m. on Sunday, January 21. And, on Friday,

48

Highline Autos

January 19, 10 a.m. to noon, the “Unmasking the Auction” seminar is scheduled. “Exciting and fast, the ‘64 Cheetah is a wild machine built to be a Cobra-killer,” Alcazar explains. “At 1500 pounds, the small-block Chevy V-8 can easily spin the tires. The wheelbase is so short and the engine is so far back that there’s no driveshaft, only a single universal joint between the transmission and rear axle. Effectively, it’s a mid-engine car.” This 1948 Delahaye, purchased in the 1970s, is similar to the 135Ms that the great Paris-based firm had built before the onset of World War II. The handbuilt Henri Chapron Carrossier body is in a style known as the Dandy Grand Luxe. Ferrari insisted that any car with his name must have 12 cylinders, so the rights to build the baby Ferrari were sold to the de Nora family, which created Autocostruzioni Societa per Azioni (ASA) in Milan. Only a few 1964 ASA 1100cc Spiders were built –– some estimate only six –– with this one being one of two with this engine. The numbers-matching, rare red-on-red 1967 Corvette was produced in the last year of the magnificent second-generation cars. “It’s powered by the wicked solid-lifter RPO L71 427 V-8 engine packing 435 factory-rated horsepower and mated to a Muncie M21 close-ratio four-speed manual transmission,” Alcazar says. Bidder registration is $200 and includes admission for preview day and four days of the auction for the bidder and a guest. For more information, see russoandsteele.com or call 602.252.2697.

1936 Lincoln Model K V-12 Collapsible Cabriolet Landau (Lot 693)

1953 Chevrolet Corvette #183 of the original 300 (Lot 685)

SILVER AUCTIONS –– JANUARY 18-21 by David M. Brown Three classics representing three great eras of American motoring history –– a 1936 Lincoln, a 1953 Corvette and a 1969 Mustang Boss 429 –– highlight the docket at Silver Auctions Arizona, January 18−21, 2018. Under new Arizona-based ownership, the event returns to the Valley at the We-Ko-Pa Resort and Conference Center at the Fort McDowell Casino, just outside of Fountain Hills off the Beeline Highway, State Route 87. Approximately 450 pre- and post-war classics have been docketed, and 8,000 attendees and 20 vendors are expected to attend. Gates open at 8 a.m. daily, with the automobilia auction at 10 a.m. followed an hour later by the car auction, which finishes up at approximately 6 p.m. daily when all cars on the day’s docket have appeared. “We plan to keep the same style of auctions that Silver has fostered over 20 years, with integrity, honesty and a comfortable auction setting where everyone is welcome,” says Emmett Rice, who purchased the Arizona portion of the collector car auction founded by Mitch Silver more than 40 years ago. “Our goal is to continue Mitch’s tradition of delivering the highest level of customer care and ensuring that the Arizona auctions are friendly, with no stress, just fun,” he adds. Rice founded and operates Vintage Autohaus & Imports, a classic car dealership in Amarillo, Texas, where he has staged several collector car auctions. The 1936 Lincoln Model K V-12 Collapsible Cabriolet Landau, Model 329B by Brunn, is one of ten built, once owned by Richard T. Ringling, son of Alfred T. Ringling, one of the Ringling Bros. Circus

founders. An “original 300” with the Blue Flame 6-cylinder, the 1953 Chevrolet Corvette Roadster has been in storage for the past two decades. Before this, the first of “America’s Sports Car” had attained “Triple Crown” status, including NCRS “Top Flight,” “PV,” and “Duntov” awards. Built to homologate the engine for NASCAR, the 1969 Ford Mustang Boss 429, this is #118 of 859 of these “Holy Grail” cars. Candy Apple Red on a black interior, it was assembled at Kar Kraft in Brighton, Michigan, where the shock towers were modified and the battery relocated to the trunk to make room for the huge NASCAR-winning engine. A car show, with entertainment, during the weekend is also planned. Corporate sponsors include Swisstrax Corporation, an Indio, California-based company that manufactures modular garage flooring for businesses and homes. Silver Auctions will continue its other two annual Arizona auctions in November and in March. Joining Rice are Andy Stone, formerly of Leake Auctions, who will head Silver Arizona Auctions; Jason Rose, former vice president of operations at Barrett-Jackson; Rob Brunton, formerly with Penske Automotive and Leake; and Rodney Stokes, general sales manager for Vintage Autohaus & Imports. Cost of admission daily is $10, and children 12 and younger are free. Hash Kitchen Creative Breakfast & Bar written by David M. Brown photos by Debby Wolvos Brunch never ends at the Valley’s Hash Kitchen Creative Breakfast & Bar restaurants. At both high-vibe Scottsdale locations, you can also enjoy breakfast for dinner or dinner for breakfast until 3 p.m. daily. The first meal of the day is served every day and throughout the day, including most holidays. Both venues are well-blogged destinations for hashes, morning cocktails, the DIY Bloody Mary Bar and other signature dishes such as Herb Fried Chicken and Waffles, Coconut and Almond Encrusted French Toast and the Chilaquiles. Husband and wife restaurateurs Joey and Cristina Maggiore also serve lunch and dinner at Hash Kitchen at the Shops at Gainey Village, 8777 North Scottsdale Road, which they opened in August 2015. The second location, at the Scottsdale Horizon Center in north Scottsdale, 14838 N. Frank Lloyd Wright Boulevard, they opened in November 2016. What’s in a name? “I wanted to do something memorable and easy to roll off the tongue,” Joey says. “Hashes really became the staple of the entire restaurant, and you can make a hash out of pretty much anything; that’s what makes it so fun. So why not tell

it like it is? Hash Kitchen!” The restaurants are products of Scottsdale-based Maggiore Culinary Concepts, co-owned by Phoenix culinary pioneer, Tomaso Maggiore, Joey’s dad, who began Tomaso’s Italian Restaurant on the Camelback Corridor back in 1977. The Maggiore Group also includes Tomaso’s Italian Restaurant, Tomaso’s When in Rome, Tommy V’s and The Sicilian Butcher. Hash Kitchens in Chandler and Arcadia will open soon. “We wanted to create a concept where customers could dine and experience re-imagined breakfast dishes in a casual yet lively atmosphere,” says Joey, who oversees the food and beverage direction as executive chef, with Cristina heading operations. “Cristina and I really balance each other out quite well. I am more of the creative visionary who aims to make ideas a reality, and she is definitely our logistics and numbers person,” he adds. “The restaurant business is in our blood,” he says. “Me? You’ll never find me in one spot for too long. I’m always dreaming up the next restaurant concept, unique cocktail or menu item that keeps people wondering, what could possibly be next?”
