At the 2024 Scottsdale Fall Auction, October 10-13 at WestWorld, Barrett-Jackson will present bidders with a unique opportunity to acquire not just one, but two extraordinary vehicles: a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition Roadster and its equally stunning counterpart, a 2015 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT Final Edition Gullwing Coupe.
The Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT is one of the most captivating supercars of its time. To mark the end of the production run for the modern-day SLS AMG GT, which had begun in 2009, Mercedes-Benz built just 350 Final Edition models – approximately 200 gullwing-door coupes and 150 roadsters.
The SLS AMG GT Final Edition features a long hood and a short rear deck that evokes the spirit of classic Mercedes sports cars while infusing modern aesthetics. The gullwing doors on the coupe are a nod to the iconic W198 Mercedes-Benz 300SL, produced from 1954 through 1963, linking the past with the present in a seamless blend of nostalgia and innovation. The car's aggressive stance, wide grille and sleek lines convey a sense of speed and power even when it's at a standstill. Every curve and contour have been crafted to enhance aerodynamics.
The Final Edition of the SLS is set apart aesthetically by a special front splitter, a rear spoiler and a hood with a central engine-compartment vent – all fabricated from carbon fiber. The forged 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are exclusive to the Final Edition. Both of the Final Editions, offered with No Reserve, have been finished in Obsidian Black paint.
As beautifully sculpted as the SLS AMG GT Final Edition is, performance is where it really shines. Under the hood of both vehicles lies a hand-built 6.3-liter V8 engine capable of producing a staggering 583 horsepower at 6,800 rpm and 479 ft/lbs of torque at 4,750 rpm. That thunderous output is transmitted to the rear wheels through a 7-speed automated manual transaxle turning a carbon-fiber driveshaft and limited-slip rear differential. This powerhouse propels the car from 0-60 mph in just 3.6 seconds, with a top speed of 197 mph. Stopping power comes from twopiece front brake rotors with 6-piston calipers and fixed 4-piston rear disc brakes. To further enhance performance, the Final Edition SLS AMG GT features aluminum space-frame construction with front and rear forged dual-wishbone suspension. Another highlight is the speed-sensing power steering, which adjusts the assistance automatically based on driving conditions, ensuring the driver uses the same amount of effort to steer at all speeds.
The interior of the SLS AMG GT Final Edition is a testament to Mercedes-Benz's commitment to luxury and craftsmanship. Every Final Edition model comes with a plaque located just below the gear shift that reads "1 of 350," but doesn’t disclose its actual place in the production run. The cabin is adorned with the finest materials, including black leather, carbon fiber and Alcantara trim. The attention to detail is evident in every silver accent stitch seen on the heated power adjustable seats (designed to provide maximum comfort and support) and the door panels, complemented by the silver seat belts and Alcantara accents on the dash, rear parcel shelf, steering wheel and headliner. The sport steering wheel is adorned with aluminum shift paddles. Advanced technology is seamlessly integrated with a Bang & Olufsen sound system with a 6-disc CD/DVD changer, dual-zone climate control, enhanced voice control system and navigation.

The 7th Generation Nissan Z was launched in 2021 and was a visual hit that sent fans buzzing. Exterior design was that of a sharper, more aggressive Z like the Datsuns of the early 70s. Genuine approval of a new model or generation at launch is almost never the case, but Nissan had pulled one out of the hat, and had fans excited about the latest generation of their most popular sports car. However, a shaky roll out due to COVID-19 production timelines and supply chain issues meant by the time initial customers were able to take delivery in 2023, the buzz around the vehicle had diminished considerably. Conversely, Nissan’s US dealership network thought they all had a Porsche GT3 RS in their showrooms, demanding a 60% mark up on customers who had placed the first 240 orders in the US. Dedicated Z customers who stuck out the long wait were rewarded with nothing but attempts of dealership markups.
Tables would turn however for Z buyers who did not write the brand off all together because one model year later, Nissan announced a Nismo variant of the new Z. Nismo is Nissan’s in-house performance brand, similar to AMG for Mercedes and M division at BMW. After going through the Nismo performance upgrade process, the Z receives a is a slight boost in power, about 25 hp and torque more than the standard car, along with an aggressiveness in the drivetrain, pops and bangs from the exhaust, and very quick dual clutch gearbox that feels like true engineering upgrades, rather than just a calibration change to the system’s ECU.
Don’t worry though, the $13,000 premium for the Nismo Z over the standard car comes with more than just an extra 25 hp and torque. Other Nismo upgrades include larger brakes, a more sophisticated suspension, limited slip differential, Recaro bucket seats with suede inserts and leather accents, wider and grippy Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT600 tires. These Dunlop tires were incredible in the dry, but with such an aggressive groove pattern, or lack thereof, performance in the wet would be a harrowing adventure.
The interior of the latest generation Z is an almost unintentional throwback in the best way possible. Owners from the previous generation will recognize the inside doors handles, and the three pod gauges that have been a nod to the OG Fairlady Z for generations. There is a refreshing “lack of touch-screen controls” to the interior and infotainment system as well. The vehicle’s driver modes are controlled by a physical button in the center console, the air conditioning and heater are controlled by traditional buttons and knobs under the infotainment screen; which features 8 quick select buttons, making the touchscreen almost optional for use.
This 7th Generation Nissan Z represents a successful return to form for the iconic sports car, blending classic styling with modern performance. Despite the initial setbacks of production delays and dealership markups that dampened the early enthusiasm, Nissan’s subsequent release of the Nismo variant reignited excitement among fans. For those who appreciate a balance of heritage and innovation, the latest Z offers an exhilarating driving experience that stays true to its roots.

Each year, around the middle of August, the Monterey Peninsula transforms into the focal point of the automotive world.
Monterey Car Week offers an unparalleled opportunity to observe an extraordinary array of street-parked supercars, iconic race cars that have shaped automotive history, and stunning classic vehicles. This event represents the pinnacle of car spotting for the year, with rare and unique automobiles appearing at every turn.
The week is filled with numerous overlapping events, making it impossible to attend them all. However, we are fortunate to have a team of editors traveling to California for the celebrations, and we will provide you with as many updates as possible. A 1934 Bugatti Type 59 Sports, showcased by Fritz Burkhard of The Pearl Collection, was awarded Best of Show at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. This marks the inaugural occasion that a preservation entry has received the highest honor. This year, 214 cars from 16 countries and 29 states pulled onto the competition field. The competition for the Best of Show award included several formidable entries, such as the 1948 Talbot-Lago T26 Grand Sport Saoutchik Fastback Coupé, showcased by Robert Kudela from Chropyně, Czech Republic; the 1934 Packard 1108 Twelve LeBaron Sport Phaeton, presented by Harry Yeaggy of Cincinnati, Ohio; and notably, the 1970 Lancia Stratos HF Zero Bertone Coupe, exhibited by Phillip Sarofim of Beverly Hills, California, as part of our groundbreaking exhibition of Wedge concepts and prototypes.
