Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Sammy Hagar is, without a doubt, a true car enthusiast. Apparent in his iconic work with the hard-rock band Montrose, in his multiplatinum solo career and as lead vocalist of Van Halen, Hagar is no stranger to fast cars. His passion for adrenaline-pumping speed and high-performance sports cars is well-documented through his music, with classic hits like "I Can't Drive 55," which is listed on VH1’s 100 Greatest Hard Rock Songs. In the music video, Hagar is shown in his element, seated behind the wheel of a sleek 1982 Ferrari 512 Berlinetta Boxer. At the time of writing, this automotive treasure still resides in Hagar's collection.
Hagar has now decided to sell another star car from his collection: a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari which is ready to rock 'n' roll across the Barrett-Jackson auction block with a new battery from Ferrari of San Francisco. The supercar was held back from the January auction so that a new high-voltage battery could be installed. Hagar’s LaFerrari will be offered on Saturday, October 12 – the day before Hagar’s birthday – during the 2024 Scottsdale Fall Auction, presented by Gila River Resorts & Casinos, October 10-13 at WestWorld. Known simply as "LaFerrari," the Ferrari LaFerrari was introduced in 2013 as the Italian automaker's flagship model. It was an instant sensation, blending breathtaking aesthetics with cutting-edge technology and jaw-dropping performance. With its hybrid powertrain and Formula-1-inspired features, the LaFerrari quickly earned its place among the most sought-after supercars in the world.
Notably, Ferrari produced only 499 LaFerraris, with 200 of these distinguished vehicles designated as Aperta models, which feature a removable roof. (An additional coupe was later built by Ferrari for a charitable sale after a devastating earthquake in Italy.) According to Hagar, there isn’t a standard base LaFerrari: “If you are fortunate enough to get one of these cars from Ferrari,” he said, “you have to go over there (to the factory in Italy) and design your car.”
With the help of Ferrari’s design team, it took Hagar two days to create his LaFerrari. “The first one I did was a yellow car,” Hagar said, adding that it had lots of stripes with black and red accents throughout. The aesthetic wasn’t quite right, so Hagar began looking at the walls of the Ferrari factory and studying the cars in photographs. According to Hagar, a cream-colored Ferrari from the 1960s caught his eye. It was the only vehicle like it on the wall, and the Ferrari team was able to match the color. “I fell in love with it and said, ‘No other colors,’” he recalled.
The elegant cream color highlights the car's sleek lines, sculpted body and aggressive stance, which is further enhanced by the carbon-fiber and black accents that contribute to its visual appeal, capturing the essence of Italian automotive artistry. Perhaps it was subliminal, but it also matches the interior of his jet, which he traveled in to visit the Ferrari factory in Italy.
Like Hagar's fiery "Red Rocker" personality, this LaFerrari packs a serious punch. “Everyone asks why I am selling it,” Hagar said, providing a frank and humble explanation: “It’s so fast and so powerful, it’s beyond my skills and abilities.” He has only driven the car 1,100 miles since receiving it from the factory.

It is no secret car manufacturers are in a retro SUV frenzy at the moment. Ford brought back the Bronco, Jeep makes a 2024 Wagonner, and even Toyota has an all new, ‘80s inspired Land Cruiser. While these modern throwbacks are experiencing varying levels of success, the 6th generation (2020+) Land Rover Defender has risen to the top of the segment. Our Defender, a 110 X-Dynamic SE was on the more modern side of Defender options, featuring a white body with black exterior trim, premium 22” 5-spoke gloss black wheels, comfort and convenience pack, premium interior pack, and cold climate pack. However, with a 3.0 liter mild hybrid I6, AWD w/ twin speed transfer box, terrain response, hill descent control and much more, this Defender can get you where you need to be, no matter the situation.
The 6th generation Defender’s execution in both retro styling and off road performance is where this SUV separates itself from the competition. The Ford Bronco is an almost equal competitor in the execution of off-road performance and retro styling, but the little brother Bronco Sport is more badge than Bronco. Jeep, another brand associated with off-road capabilities and a "go anywhere" attitude, went the opposite direction with the Wagonner, creating a big, heavy, luxury SUV that competes more with the Cadillac Escalade or full size Range Rover.
Land Rover offers the Defender in 17 different variants, among three different lengths, and about 6 trim levels. The entry level Defender, the Defender 90 S, is the most utilitarian spec you can buy, for customers who plan on washing their Defender only once a year, but still enjoy a modern air conditioning and stereo. The top of the Defender range is the 518 hp 5.0 liter supercharged V8 model, available in either satin gray or black, perfect for any Land Rover customer who envisions themselves as the villain of a James Bond film. With so many possible configurations available, Land Rover gives customers the opportunity to decide how much of the authentic Defender experience they really want to live with.
Our ‘24 Defender was more than capable of the usual suburban lifestyle almost all Defenders will experience. As a two row SUV, trunk space and rear legroom is excellent, and headroom was particularly is impressive. The smooth ride, light steering, and 3D surround cameras and sensors, makes maneuvering over 17 ½ foot long, 7,000 lb. SUV incredibly easy. Like all modern Land Rover products, this Defender has more drive modes and different terrain settings than most customers will experience in their life, let alone behind the wheel of their Defender. Excellent heated seats and an impressive Meridian premium audio that you’d think only belongs in a Range Rover, brings the entire Defender driving experience notches above anything like the Ford Bronco or Jeep Wrangler.
The Defender’s tall styling and safari windows in the rear cabin gives a much more spacious feeling for passengers than in a full size Range Rover. For smaller children, or let's be honest, the less limber adults, fixed side step running boards and 19” wheels are something to consider for better ingress and egress. Our Defender had 22” wheels without running boards, those under 5'10” had some complaints getting in and out. Another point of contention in the office is the exposed bolts around the cabin and on the door cards, some found it amusing and in tune with the ethos of the vehicle, others will find it a cheap trick and questioned “Why could they have not covered these up?”.
Overall the 6th generation Land Rover Defender, and in particular our 110 X-Dynamic SE, is at the top of the retro/modern SUV pyramid. A well executed, modern take on an iconic shape, and more possible configurations than customers could ever need. Quality from a premium brand like Land Rover, who has the reputation of the most luxurious, go anywhere, off-road capable vehicles, bring even more off-road performance to customers who enjoy a fun weekend adventure, while not looking to sacrifice their everyday drivability in town.

Bonhams is set to make an impact at Monterey Car Week 2024 with its prestigious auction at the Quail Lodge & Golf Club in Carmel, California. The highly anticipated event will feature an exquisite array of collectible cars, ranging from vintage classics to modern supercars, attracting collectors and enthusiasts from around the globe.
The 27th event is held with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering. The auction starts at 11 a.m. PDT. The cars may be previewed at Quail Lodge on August 14 and 15, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., as well as Friday auction day, beginning at 8:30 a.m until the docket runs. Most cars carry a reserve.
Two examples of some of Porsche's finest purpose-built creations will be offered, one of approximately 62 produced, a 1971 Porsche 911 S/T, estimated at $900,000 - $1,200,000. This car comes with highly desirable track focused specifications, including the M471 lightweight body option, factory lightweight glass, 100L fuel tank, and roll bar and presents today in its as-delivered specs with its original numbersmatching engine.
Also an exceptionally rare 'Series II' 1993 Porsche 959 Komfort, estimated at $1,500,000 - $2,000,000, one of only six built. The Type 959 was the company's first true supercar, the world's fastest and quickest road car in its day.
Joining the line-up is a numbers-matching 1957 BMW 507 Series II Roadster with Hardtop, estimated at $1,800,000 –
2,500,000. This remarkable example of BMW's iconic 50s Sportscar carries an incredible 63 years of tenure in its current ownership - eclipsing even John Surtees' 61 years with his 507, which Bonhams | Cars sold in 2018 for the world record price of $5,000,000. The 507 retains several desirable attributes including Rudge wheels, hard top and Becker long and short-wave radio, has maintained its striking white exterior virtually all its life, having been repainted by Zingg prior to arrival with its first owner, Gustavo Quintero in late 1957/early 1958. The car presents extremely well and is reported to be in good running condition, with its gearbox and clutch rebuilt in Germany by ZF in recent years.

Broad Arrow Auctions is ready for their 3rd annual Monterey auction to start 2024’s Monterey Car Week with a bang! The auction is set to take place August 14th and 15th at the Monterey Jet Center in conjunction with another Hagerty production, MOTORLUX.
157 vehicles will be crossing the Broad Arrow auction block, 29 of those expecting to fetch over $1,000,000. The flagship of Pebble Beach Automotive Week and the world’s premier celebration of the automobile, the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance holds its 73rd event Sunday, August 18, on the famed 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links.
This year Pebble Beach will showcase a broader array of automobiles, encompassing the groundbreaking Packards and the Speedsters associated with the 125-year-old brand, as well as the supercars that competed in the BPR Series during the 1990s. Emphasizing the works of Maserati and the artistry of Pietro Frua introduces an Italian flair, while Wedge concepts present a notably contemporary aesthetic.
Packard 125th Anniversary, for nearly sixty years, from 1899 to 1958, Packard epitomized American luxury, with distinguished models having won the Best of Show award at Pebble Beach on four separate occasions. In honor of the 125th anniversary of the brand's establishment, we intend to introduce a special class dedicated to early Packards, showcasing everything from groundbreaking single-cylinder horseless carriages to the impressive Dominant Six of 1915. Additionally, there will be a special class for the 1930 Packard 734 Speedster Series, which featured a collection of factory hot rods built on a custom-designed shortened chassis, offering a variety of performance enhancements and available in five distinct body styles, including the iconic boattail.
Maserati, the Maserati brothers created their inaugural racing vehicle in 1926, and the breadth and triumph of their competitive models, developed until the early 1960s, quickly attained legendary status globally. They garnered special admiration from both drivers and owners, as well as significant respect from formidable competitors like Alfa Romeo
and Ferrari. In 1948, under the stewardship of the Orsi family, Maserati began manufacturing non-racing sports cars, leading to the emergence of GT models. Notably, this renowned company was later acquired by Ferrari, subsequently collaborated with the Alfa Romeo Group, and is currently under the ownership of Stellantis.
A unique exhibition featuring a curated selection of 10 Defender and Range Rover models, utilized by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, highlight automobiles that have served the Royal family.
The event begins with the 1,500-mile Pebble Beach Motoring Classic, August 5 through 14, from Kirkland, Washington, to Pebble Beach. And, the Pebble Beach Tour d’Elegance presented by Rolex is a scenic drive for 150-plus Concours participants on Highway One from the 17-Mile Drive to Big Sur and back, August 15, starting at 7 a.m. and concluding at noon.
And, the 18th Pebble Beach RetroAuto and the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum will be held in Concours Village at Pebble Beach, August 15–17, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Concours Sunday, August 18, 8 a.m.–6 p.m.

The Pebble Beach RetroAuto and the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum will be held in Concours Village at Pebble Beach, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, August 15–17, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., and August 18, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
These two events are held with the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, which culminates a week of activities on Sunday, August 18, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. RetroAuto hosts a highly curated selection of auto parts, collectibles, automotive posters, art and literature and automobilia as well as luxury goods and technological tools and official Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance merchandise. RM Sotheby’s Returns for its 27th Event on the Monterey Peninsula August 15–17

RM Sotheby’s returns to the peninsula for the 27th year hosting three auction evenings, with remarkable offerings to excite and entice every collector August 15–17 at the Monterey Conference Center.
The auction of 2023 featured the renowned Lost and Found Collection, which represents the pinnacle of barn finds, comprising 20 Ferraris that had been forgotten over time. Among these was the 1954 Ferrari Mondial Spider Series I, designed by Pinin Farina. As the second Mondial ever produced, this vehicle, despite its damaged and charred state, generated significant excitement within automotive communities and the media, ultimately fetching 1.875 million at auction. During the 2023 Monterey Car Week, RM Sotheby's achieved remarkable success by selling five of the top ten cars of the week, surpassing all other auction houses on the peninsula.
The 2024 auction features the very first Ferrari 250 GT SWB California Spider, which made its debut at the 1960 Geneva Motor Show. Accompanying this extraordinary vehicle are two other iconic Ferraris: the 1960 Ferrari 400 Superamerica Cabriolet and the 1959 Ferrari 250 GT LWB California Spider. Additionally, a remarkable 1955 Ferrari 410 Sport Spider, crafted by Scaglietti, will be available during Monterey Car Week. This distinctive, one-of-a-kind sports racing Speciale serves as the prototype for the renowned 410 Sport Scuderia Ferrari Works cars, highlighting the event and celebrating Ferrari's illustrious 1950s motorsport legacy.
The 2002 Ferrari F2001b Formula 1 car, this remarkable
grand prix car stands out as one of only 30 F1 chassis that achieved victory under the legendary driver Michael Schumacher. It represents a significant moment from one of his five seasons as F1 Drivers’ World Champion with Ferrari. This vehicle was instrumental during Schumacher’s 2002 season, which commenced with Scuderia utilizing a modified version of the previous year's chassis, the F2001b, while they perfected the chassis that would be employed for the remainder of the 2002 season. Despite initial mechanical challenges that raised questions about the car's capabilities, Schumacher silenced the skeptics by winning the season's opening race in Australia. In its second and final appearance that season, Schumacher again secured a podium finish, placing him at the forefront of the Drivers’ Championship, which he would ultimately secure just nine races later. This car not only represents an invaluable artifact of the Schumacher and Ferrari legacy but is also celebrated as one of the most distinguished racers from the V-10 era—a time in motorsport that is justly regarded as one of the most thrilling in Formula 1 history.

Motorsports Reunion Celebrates 50 Years of Historic Racing August 14–17

The Motorsports Reunion celebrates 50 years of historic racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, August 14–17, following an $18-plus million renovation in 2023 including a new track surface and a revitalized Mission Foods start/ finish bridge.
Approximately 70,000 fans of historic racing are expected to visit the historic circuit where about 400 period-correct car cars will compete in 14 race categories.
To usher in the 50th anniversary of historic racing in Monterey will be automobile impresario Bill Warner, who today was named Grand Marshal of the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Mr. Warner was an early advocate of the original Monterey Historic Automobile Races, which for 36 years altered the vintage racing landscape. Since 2010, when the historic race was rebranded as the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, he has championed the gathering from multiple perspectives.
As part of its ongoing commitment to honoring true legends of the sport, WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca welcomes the addition of Lyn St. James to the esteemed Legends collection that are displayed prominently within the Legends Club VIP Experience. This honor recognizes St. James for her outstanding contributions to motorsport and her enduring influence as a trailblazer for women in racing.
Artist Bill Patterson has crafted a stunning poster Capturing five decades of celebrated marques and honorees for the 2024 Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Patterson's artwork commemorates 29 featured marques, each representing a
pivotal celebration since the inception of this historic racing event in 1974, which has set the benchmark for vintage racing worldwide. Each illustration signifies which year(s) the brand was honored. Having been associated with WeatherTech Raceway for nearly two decades, Patterson expressed both enthusiasm and a sense of responsibility when approached about this significant project.
The 50th Anniversary Exhibit, presented by Motul, will be the centerpiece in the paddock to recognize the past featured marques and individuals who have been richly honored since historic racing began in 1974. According to former Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum Director and curator of this special exhibit, Ellen Bireley, this will be a once-in-a-lifetime collection of the rarest of the rare.

Car Show is Wednesday, August 14th, in Pacific Grove

Anyone who doubts the adage “good things come in small packages” might experience a change of heart after taking in The Little Car Show in downtown Pacific Grove on the Wednesday afternoon of Car Week. More than 100 of the world’s smallest vehicles will be staged Aug. 14 on Lighthouse Avenue during this 14th annual production of the event.
As always, admission is free to spectators, and owners of the cars will be on hand to answer questions (and brag) about their pride and joy. The show has become one of Car Week’s most popular attractions, featuring vehicles with engines no larger than 1.8 liters (110 cubic inches.) Also, to be eligible for displaying, cars must be at least 25 years old - some entries date back to before the first World War.
This year’s Little Car Show is dedicated to the cars of Great Britain. A broad field of examples of Britain’s very significant contribution to automotive development will be on hand for spectators to take in. But aside from the Brits, as usual the show will include smallish vehicles from around the globe. A special “Mini Corral” will house a wide range of England’s famed Austin/Morris Mini vehicles.
Viewers can expect to see cars, trucks and vans in all stages of condition parked on Pacific Grove’s main street.
Some will be project cars, others all original, while some will have had careful and correct restoration. Judging will take place, but the event’s coordinators emphasize that the event is staged for fun, not trophies.
Spectators are also invited to witness The Little Car Show entries parade around Pacific Grove’s world-famous shoreline, from the Lighthouse Avenue show area to Asilomar Boulevard at 17 Mile Drive. The parade follows the Lighthouse Avenue show, at about 5 p.m.
Although the event is free of charge to viewers, entrants pay a fee to show their cars. Additionally, posters and T-shirts commemorating the show will be available for purchase. All proceeds from entry fees and keepsake souvenirs will be donated to local charities. The Little Car Show is a production of Marina Motorsports, a California 501(C)(3) corporation.
