Robb Talbott and the Moto Talbott Collection

GreatGarages MOTO TALBOTT COLLECTION: CYCLES OF ART Story by David M. Brown Photos by Randy Wilder For Robb Talbott, vintage motorcycles are always in the running as art. When he was a young man, the Carmel Valley resident read The Art of the Motorcycle published by the Guggenheim Museum. Set against the great Frank Lloyd Wright-designed building in Manhattan were great cycles, exemplary for their beauty, mechanical excellence and performance. “For the first time, I realized that motorcycles could qualify as art,” says Talbott, founder of the Moto Museum in Carmel Valley. “I started getting really excited about that idea. When you see the cooling fins on an MV Agusta or the sculpting of a Rickman hub, you realize they’re art,” says Talbott, who attended Colorado College for Fine Art and Design and is the former

owner of Talbott Vineyards in Carmel Valley. His 170 cycles are from Belgium, Germany, China, Italy, the Czech Republic, Japan, France, Spain and other countries. Last August, one of Talbott’s bikes, a rare 1925 BMW R37, won Best of Class at the Pebble Beach Concours, the culmination of Monterey Car Week in August. “The collection is an eclectic mix of bikes from 16 countries, including mini bikes, race bikes, dirt bikes, choppers, bobbers, MV Agustas and flat track, speedway and board trackers from the early 1900s versions,” says Bobby Weindorf, curator and restorer. In addition, the museum has antique transportation toys, a B-17 aircraft motor, vintage trucks and more. “We have a vast selection of bikes from

the ’50s, in particular, 175cc, pre-1957 bikes that were used in the Moto Giro d’ Italia,” Weindorf adds, referring to the great two-wheel races in Italy. “We have bikes that were raced all over the world, from Isle of Man to the dirt tracks of America. It’s a gathering of things that are classic, unique and capture the imagination, and all have some tie-in to Robb’s life,” he adds. Talbott brought Weindorf to the museum from Santa Barbara where he was doing restorations and running his dealership. He’s been riding since 12 and has worked as technician for American Honda’s Supercross/Motocross as well as the Fast by Ferraci, Rumi Honda in Italy and Erion Racing teams. Although Talbott did not start collecting until 2001, the two-wheeler passion began early, as he lived near Laguna Seca Raceway, now Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, which schedules a number of events each year for Monterey Car Week. He raced locally thorough his college years in the mid ’60s. He started with a Honda 50 step-through, then

rode Suzukis and dirt bikes, including a BSA 441, Jawa, Bridgestone, Kawasaki and a Sachs and then a two-stroke Yamaha DT-1 250, racing motocross and winter hill climbs. He purchased a Triumph Bonneville, then bought others, restoring some, leaving a few just as they were to age magnificently. In 2015, he sold Talbott Vineyards to dedicate his time to the collection, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit devoted to motorcycle preservation, restoration and education. Come on over and join the ride, while you’re in town for Monterey Car Week or any time: •1953 Capriolo Corsa –– This 75-cc bike was a winner of its class in the famous Moto Giro D’ Italia races in the ’50s; this model is one of the closedcourse versions, Weindorf explains. The Moto Giro races began in 1914 as the “Giro Motociclistico d’Italia” and lasted nine days over hundreds of kilometers, requiring extraordinary endurance. Stopping in the mid 1950s, the

GreatGarages races began again in 2001, led by Dream Engine, a Bolognese event company, with Ducati as the main sponsor. They continue today in a modified version as a timed rally, not a race, Weindorf explains. •1955 Benelli Corsa –– This track-only bike has a very unique cam-drive system consisting of sixgear running from the crank to the overhead cam. “A gem; it’s beautiful and fast,” he says. Established in Pesaro, Italy, in 1911, Benelli at first repaired bicycles and motorcycles, and in 1919 the company released its first motorcycle. The following year, a single-cylinder two-stroke 75-cc engine was produced in-house.

it,” Weindorf says. “They uncovered it months later, and we got it. We got it running and have never cleaned it since, although it’s still ridden regularly.” A few years ago, it won the “Spirit of the Quail” award at the annual Quail, A Motorsports Gathering during Monterey Car Week. •1972 MV Agusta 750S –– Talbott took six years searching for one of these last of the MV fourcylinders. He found it in original condition in Switzerland, where it had sat indoors for 20-plus years. “It’s now running great,” Weindorf says.

•1956 Moto Devil –– This 175cc was built to compete in the Moto Giro races but never did. “It is a one-off prototype with sandcast cases,” Weindorf explains.

The Moto Talbott Collection, 4 East Carmel Valley Road in Carmel Valley Village, is open Thursdays through Sundays daily, 11 a.m.−5 p.m. Adults are $12, seniors and military, $10 and children, $7. For additional information, see mototalbott.com and call 831.659.5410.

BONHAMS QUAIL LODGE AUCTION IS AUGUST 18 by David M. Brown A trio of classic Ferraris and a Team Cunningham “Ferrari Beater” highlight the 100-plus premium cars to be offered at the 2017 Bonhams Quail Lodge Auction, which returns to Monterey Car Week Friday, August 18. The longest-running auction on the Monterey Peninsula, the 20th annual Bonhams event is held on the western lawns of the Quail Lodge & Golf Club, Rancho San Carlos Road and Valley Greens Drive, Carmel Valley, with The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering 2017. Preview days are Wednesday and Thursday, August 16 and 17, 9 a.m.–6 p.m. The automobilia sale begins at 9 a.m., and the cars go on the block at 11 a.m. “Our annual Quail Lodge sale is one of the most anticipated on the global collector car calendar,” says Jakob Greisen, Bonhams’ head of US Motoring. “And this year there are two very large milestones to celebrate in addition: our 20th anniversary in Carmel and Ferrari’s 70th anniversary as a brand. We have a truly world-class selection of cars consigned,” he adds. “What stands out most are the incredible European sports-racing and sports cars on offer.” The three Prancing Stallions are led by a 1963 400 Superamerica Coupé Aerodinamico, a longwheelbase Series II with coachwork by Pininfarina. Number 15 of only 18 made, the Cavallino Classic Platinum Award-winning Ferrari has matching numbers and covered headlights: It’s fast, handsome, luxurious and rare. A Scaglietti-bodied 1972 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider is also Platinum Award winning, from the Ferrari Club of America, and features the V-12

engine. Restoration of this one of the 121 convertibles was completed by Wayne Obry and his renowned Motion Products. With coachwork by Pininfarina, the 1966 275 GTS is also an open-top matching-numbers and Ferrari Classiche certified. “Well preserved and immensely attractive, it is one of the best driving 275 GTSs we’ve ever had the pleasure to offer,” Greisen says. The 1963 Team Cunningham Le Mans 1963 Jaguar E-Type Lightweight is, perhaps, the star of this year’s Bonhams Monterey docket. The Briggs Cunningham team appeared at Le Mans with this Number 14, chassis #S850664. Team Cunningham also raced it at Road America 500 and at the Bridgehampton 500 where it finished fourth overall. Known as the “GTO killers,” these lightweight competition Jaguar E-Types were faster on most tracks than the fabled Ferrari 250 GTO, Greisen says. Formerly displayed at the Cunningham Museum, the car, with the Cunningham collection, was later owned by Lord Bamford, Paul Vestey and Campbell McLaren, all noted collectors. “Historic, tremendously rare, race proven, and useable, this extraordinary machine of provenance and pedigree is also incredibly gorgeous,” Greisen says. “There’s just nothing like it.” Admission to Bonhams Monterey is $20, including a gallery guide; $100, admitting two, plus a catalog; $150, bidder registration, admitting two, and a catalog. Please note that entry to Bonhams’ preview and auction does not require a ticket to The Quail: A Motorsports Gathering. For more information, call 415.391.4000, email info.us@bonhams.com or visit Bonhams.com/Quail.

Carmel Mission Classic

FIFTH ANNUAL CARMEL MISSION CLASSIC IS AUGUST 16 by David M. Brown More than 1,000 car lovers are expected to attend the fifth annual Carmel Mission Classic, Wednesday, August 16, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual event takes place at the historic Carmel Mission Basilica, 3080 Rio Road in Carmel –– the jewel of the Monterey Peninsula. The 18thcentury Spanish Franciscan missionary to the area, Father Junípero Serra, is buried on the church grounds; he was canonized by Pope Francis in 2015. The signature cars include actress Delores del Rio’s 1930 Duesenberg, presented by the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, which maintains a stellar collection of classic automobiles acquired by the Stephens family of San Francisco and Phoenix. Others are a 1954 Packard Caribbean; 1955 Woodall Wildfire from the Richard Atwell Collection in Texas; a 1965 Chevrolet Impala, “The Imposter,” a $3-million custom by Chip Foose and shown by Don Voth; and the Wonder Bread Car, which ran at Indy in 1933, presented by event sponsor Pat Phinney, who will be serving food from his auto-inspired restaurant, the Baja Cantina, Carmel Valley. Barry Meguiar, star of Car Crazy, will emcee, and the guest judge will be custom car guru, John D’Agnostino. Danny Sullivan, winner of the 1985 Indianapolis 500, will be the honored guest and will happily sign autographs. Roger Pendenza is co-chairman of the Carmel Mission Classic and recently retired from the FBI: “We are the most holy and secure car extravaganza out there, and we welcome you all! God bless!” says Event Chairman Frank DiPaola, a retired Los Angeles police officer who helped found the event

28

with friend, Richard Pepe, a retired New York City policeman, in 2013. DiPaola and Pendenza are members of the service fellowship, The Knights of Columbus, a Catholic-based fraternal organization engaged in many charitable works. Among the event beneficiaries: Junipero Serra School Scholarships for the Roman Catholic elementary school on the Monterey Peninsula community; Coats for Kids, providing 200-plus coats annually for needy children of all faiths living in South Monterey County; and Knights of Columbus Charities, supporting Christians at Risk in Syria. A variety of trophies will be awarded to the owners of the fine automobiles, including Best of Show. An original work of art, the poster for the event by Carmel artist Ed Greco, will be auctioned. In addition, some of Monterey County’s finest vineyards will offer their wines, Andrea Carter and her ensemble will perform and a gourmet food bar will be prepared by a local chef. A U.S. Marine color guard will begin the event, and Bishop Richard Garcia will offer his annual blessing of the cars. “How many car shows have you been to at a 300-year-old mission where a saint is buried, which has a bishop’s blessing and eight wineries pouring?” DiPaola says. “At the Carmel Mission Classic, there is something for the body and something for the soul.” For more information on or tickets for the Carmel Mission Classic, see carmelmissionclassic.org, e-mail info@carmelmissionclassic.org or call 831.915.5311.

1970 Porsche 917K, Lot 044

1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series V Gran Sport, Lot 021

GOODING & COMPANY PEBBLE BEACH AUCTIONS IS AUGUST 18 & 19 by David M. Brown A legendary 1970 Porsche 917K that starred in Steve McQueen’s Le Mans, a 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series V Gran Sport and two low-mileage unrestored Mercedes-Benz 300 SLs lead 130−140 classic cars into Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auctions Friday, August 18, 6 p.m., and Saturday, Aug. 19, 11 a.m., at the Equestrian Center, Stevenson Drive and Portola Road in Pebble Beach, California. In its second decade as the official auction house of the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, which culminates Monterey Car Week, August 20, the Gooding & Company auction begins with the preview of cars, Wednesday, August 16, and continues through Saturday, August 19. Liveried in white, baby blue and orange, the Porsche 917K, chassis 917-024, is a racing masterpiece. Revealed in 1969, the 12-cylinder 917 was further developed as the 917K (‘K’ for kurz or short tail). This 917K, chassis 917-024, was used by Porsche during the 1970 Le Mans Tests, where Brian Redman and Mike Hailwood drove it, the former setting the fastest times. Two months later, another 917K won Le Mans. Following testing at Le Mans, Nürburgring and Ehra Lessien, 917-024 was sold to Porsche factory driver, Jo Siffert, who leased the car to Steve McQueen’s Solar Productions for use in Le Mans (1971). After Siffert died, a private collector in Paris in the mid 1970s purchased it; in 2001, it was found in a warehouse outside the city, untouched after 20-plus years. A restoration was completed in 2017. “The Porsche 917 is among the most significant competition cars ever created, and they remain highly coveted by knowledgeable enthusiasts world-

32

Highline Autos

wide,” says David Gooding, president and founder of Santa, Monica, California-based Gooding & Company. “This example, with its fascinating history, iconic livery and exacting restoration, is among the most exciting racing cars that has ever come to public auction.” The 1931 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 Series V Gran Sport is one of the legendary 6C 1750 Zagatobodied spiders and has been in single ownership since 1966. After restoration by specialist Clay Cook, the car won First in Class at the 1996 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®. The 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing shows just over 16,000 miles from new and remains in unrestored condition, and the 1957 300 SL Roadster is just under 38,000 miles. Additional events for Gooding & Company Monterey include the Tour d’Elegance®, Thursday, August 19, a parade of motorcars outside the Gooding & Company marquee. And, Keith Martin’s Sports Car Market Seminar takes place from 9:3011:30 a.m., Saturday, August 19. Gooding & Company has a limited number of reserved rooms for clients: Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa, montereyplazahotel.com; Carmel Lodge, camellodge.com; Tradewinds Carmel, tradewindscarmel.com; The Normandy Inn, normandyinncarmel.com; and La Playa Carmel, laplayahotel.com. PEBBLE BEACH CONCOURS D’ELEGANCE HONORS FERRARI 70TH AUGUST 20

photos: Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance

Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance

by David M. Brown Concurrent Ferrari concours highlight the 68th Annual Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance®, which honors the 70th Anniversary of Ferrari, Sunday, August 20, at The Lodge at Pebble Beach™. In addition, American Dream Cars of the 1960s will celebrate one-off vehicles that appeared in the era’s films and television, including Gene Winfield’s superstar, The Reactor. Four classes of Ferraris will compete on the 18th fairway of Pebble Beach Golf Links, together with 30 other classes for cars and motorcycles. Isotta Fraschini and Castagna Coachwork will also be featured. Simultaneously, Ferraris will line the first fairway of the world-famous course, where Ferrari North America will host the Ferrari 70th Anniversary Concours. The first Ferrari-badged automobile was a 125 Sport with a 1.5-liter V-12 engine, which appeared in spring 1947; a 166 MM Touring Barchetta (chassis 0002M) was the first in the United States, coming to California in September 1948, two years before the first Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The relationship of the great new marque with a great new event was immediate. “Our history together is almost as old as Ferrari itself,” says Concours Chairman Sandra Button, “and we are proud that we continue to make history together.” In the second Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, in 1951, a 166 MM (chassis 0010M) driven by James Kimberly, appeared. The next year, a Ferrari 212 Export Touring Barchetta (chassis 0078E), guided by Arnold Stubbs, placed second in the Pebble Beach Cup Race. In 1974, the Concours first awarded for best Ferrari. In fact, the first postwar car to win the

36

Pebble Beach RetroAuto and Classic Car Forum

PEBBLE BEACH RETROAUTO AND PEBBLE BEACH CLASSIC CAR FORUM ARE AUGUST 17−19 by David M. Brown The Pebble Beach RetroAuto and the Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum return to the ballrooms of The Inn at Spanish Bay in Carmel Thursday, August 17, through Saturday, August 19, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Now in its 13th year, RetroAuto is a luxury marketplace for the automotive enthusiast, offering collectibles, automobilia, auto parts, original poster art, books and literature as well as luxury items, technological tools and official Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance merchandise. “RetroAuto is a curated, juried exhibition, so applications are reviewed and accepted based on quality, automotive relevance, category balance and overall value within the RetroAuto marketplace,” says Pebble Beach Concours Chairman Sandra Button. Approximately 30,000 people attend Pebble Beach properties during Concours weekend and 50,000-plus throughout Pebble Beach Automotive Week. Among these are decision-makers from throughout the country as well as domestic and international broadcast and print media. The sponsors represent car companies such as Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Ferrari, Bugatti, Cadillac, Aston Martin, Jaguar as well as Kia, Ford, Lamborghini, McLaren, Audi, Mini and others. Meguiar’s, Wilmington Trust, Credit Suisse and Gooding & Company are also sponsoring RetroAuto. The nonticketed event is open to the public upon availability as one of the many events during car week, which culminates on Sunday, August 20, with the 67th Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. The Pebble Beach Classic Car Forum, presented by AIG and TDC, is open to the public on

a pavilion along the first fairway. Each year, the Forum invites auto industry luminaries to discuss topics for collectors. Lifestyle topics will be presented highlighting the luxury appeal of the hobby. Must-see-panel discussions and interviews will be hosted throughout the week: historic race car drivers; noteworthy automotive designers; and special presentations on luxury lifestyle topics. This year RetroAuto features panel conversations about American Dream Designers of the ’60s, the Future of Cars from Antique to Autonomous and the history of La Carrera Panamericana. TV hosts Jay Leno, Wayne Carini, Spike Feresten and Alain de Cadenet will also be hosting sessions such as “Hot Rod Legends”, “One-on-One With Jacky Ickx” and a car chat with Jerry Seinfeld, comedian, TV star and Porsche aficionado. A reservation must to be made for the Classic Car Forum sessions, ranging from free to $75 per ticket to benefit the Pebble Beach Company Foundation supporting Monterey County youth. “It is a great way for new attendees to delve deeper into cars at the event and car issues of concern to enthusiasts,” Button explains. “On our showfield, people expect to see cars they’ve never seen before — and they will. But this is a gathering of car lovers as well as cars. The Forum provides the opportunity to meet and take part in conversations with individuals who have dedicated their lives to creating, racing and/or caring for great automobiles,” she adds. 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti, Lot 220

1956 Aston Martin DBR1, Lot 148

RM SOTHEBY’S MONTEREY IS AUGUST 18 AND 19 by David M. Brown DBR1 is the star among many luminaries for RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2017. A group of stellar Aston Martins is led by one of the most important ever produced, the 1956 Aston Martin DBR1, chassis no. 1 (DBR1/1). Others are a 1959 DB4GT prototype DP199, a 1935 Ulster Competition Sports and a semi-Works DBR9. And, to celebrate Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, a spectacular collection of 13 from a single owner will be offered. They include a Platinum Awardwinning 1961 250 GT SWB, a 1967 275 GTB/4, a low-mileage 1991 F40, a 481-mile 2011 599 GTO, a 1982 512 BBi with just 553 miles and an aluminum-bodied 1969 Ferrari Dino 206 GT. The four Aston Martins join approximately 100 blue-chip automobiles for this year’s auction, August 18 and 19, hosted on the waterfront by the Portola Hotel & Spa and Monterey Conference Center during Monterey Car Week. The RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction begins at 7 p.m. daily Pacific Time August 18 and 19. Preview dates are Wednesday, August 16, 10 a.m.– 8 p.m. Pacific Time; Thursday, August 17, 10 a.m.– 8 p.m.; Friday, August 18, and Saturday, August 19, 10 a.m. –4 p.m. until the auction begins. The first of just five built by the factory between 1956 and 1958, DBR1/1 was developed to fulfil owner David Brown’s dream of winning Le Mans, a victory achieved by its sister car in 1959 with drivers Carroll Shelby and Roy Salvadori. Also in 1959, at the Nürburgring 1000 KM, Sir Stirling Moss and Jack Fairman won, securing Aston Martin the 1959 World Sportscar Cham-

pionship victory — the first time for a British manufacturer. Oldest of the three other competition Aston Martins, the 1935 Ulster Competition Sports, chassis no. B5/549/U, is one of 21 produced and was a Works-supported car that ran in the 1935 Mille Miglia and won the Targa Abruzzo the following year. The 1959 DB4GT, no. DP199, placed first in its first competitive outing at Silverstone in 1959, driven by Sir Stirling Moss, and appeared at Le Mans later that year. It has been restored to that 1959 Le Mans specification. Finally, the 2006 Aston Martin DBR9, chassis no. DBR9/9, was one of four chassis campaigned by Scuderia Italia BMS, finishing its career with four FIA GT1 class podiums. “This is the most significant group of Astons to ever come to auction,” says Barney Ruprecht, car specialist, RM Sotheby’s. “It is a true privilege to be entrusted with the sale of all four remarkable cars, a group that represents the complete lineage of Aston Martin competition history.” Admission to the auction is restricted to registered bidders and consignors and credentialed media. Bidder registration is $300, which includes an official auction catalog and admission for two to the preview and auction days. Admission to Wednesday and Thursday previews is $40 per person. The Friday and Saturday previews are open to registered persons only. For further information on RM Sotheby’s 2017 Monterey, see rmsothebys.com or call 310.559.4575.

ROLEX MONTEREY MOTORSPORTS REUNION MARKS 60TH OF LAGUNA SECA AUGUST 17−20

photos: Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion

by David M. Brown More than 500 historic cars will help celebrate the 60th anniversary of Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, August 17−20. The largest event during Monterey Car Week, the annual weekend get-together also celebrates the 70th anniversary of Ferrari with a showing of prominent ones that have run at the circuit, led by the two-liter Ferrari Testa Rossa that Pete Lovely drove to the first win in 1957. Also being honored during the event is the 60th anniversary of Formula Junior. The Monterey Pre-Reunion, a Sports Car Racing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP) Special Event, begins the week of celebration, August 12 and 13, offering hundreds of classic cars on the track in a less crowded setting. On Saturday, August 19, Racing Through the Decades, displaying cars prominent to the history of the circuit, will feature a Picnic in the Paddock, 12:45−1:30 p.m., during which nine-time 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Tom Kristensen will be part of a discussion. Past Formula One champ Jenson Button will also be making exhibition laps on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the 1974 McLaren that Emerson Fittipaldi drove to the F1 championship. Laguna Seca Raceway opened in 1957 on Fort Ord property transferred to Monterey County by the 62 companies and individuals who formed SCRAMP. “The track was to pick up where the Pebble Beach Road Races left off after that circuit was deemed unsafe,” says Brad Littlefield, public relations manager at the track. Several changes have occurred, including

42

Highline Autos

lengthening the circuit from the original 1.9 miles to today’s 2.238-mile form. Numerous world-class motorsports events and highlights have occurred here, including “The Pass,” in 1996, when Alex Zanardi did so at “the Corkscrew” on the final lap of the CART event to win the race and stun the leader, Bryan Herta. Fourteen classes of racing are offered: Pre1940 Sports Racing and Touring Cars; 1927−1951 Racing Cars; 1955−1962 GT; 1963−1966 GT over 2500cc; 1973−1981 FIA, IMSA, GT, GTX, AAGT; 1963−1973 FIA Manufacturers Championship; 1981−1991 IMSA GTP; 1955−1961 Sports Racing over 2000cc; 1955−1961 Sports Racing under 2000cc; 1970−1984 Sports Racing under 2100cc; 1947−1955 Sports Racing and GT; 1961−1966 GT under 2500cc; 1973−1991 IMSA GTU, GTO/ Trans-Am; 1958−1960 Formula Junior – front engine & drum brake cars; and 1961−1963 Formula Junior – disc brakes. In Group 6A, television and radio star Adam Carolla will be driving the 1979 Porsche 935 that actor and driver Paul Newman drove in the 24 Hours of LeMans in 1979. “The Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion is a museum springing to life. You see cars drenched in motorsports history that can still be driven on the race track in their original form,” Littlefield says, noting that, out of more than 1,000 applying, 550 cars are selected, based on period correctness, race provenance and authenticity. “It is this country’s version of the Goodwood Revival in England.” Gates open daily at 7 a.m. For more information, see Mazdaraceway.com or call 831.242.8200.

Car Lovers: Here’s a high-octane desert home to showcase your oh-so-cool rides. On 8.1 acres in Pinnacle Peak Heights in prime North Scottsdale 85255, the seven-bedroom, 10-bathroom two-story custom, with separate casita, is 12,500-plus square feet of luxury, extraordinary multi-mile desert mountain views, entertainment wow!, exquisite detail and serenity. You will enjoy man-caving in 2,200 square feet of garage, with seven bays accommodating nine cars. Two bays are extended, two are fitted with lifts and one bay is fully carpeted, including a chandelier, for a showroom finish. Furniture-quality cabinetry, a built-in pressure washer and drain are among the amenities you and your vendors can use to service and detail the collection. Built in 1990 by Unicom, the Contemporary Rustic Tudor Estate, 23035 N. Church Road, was completely renovated and expanded from the original 8,500 square feet in 2004 by Monster Builders of Phoenix, as designed by SB Design Group, Scottsdale. “My clients sought a retreat and reprieve from the day to day,” says Steven Benitez, design professional and principal of SB Design Group. “They also sought the ability to effortlessly entertain large numbers of guests as they so often did.” Enjoy your cars as well as great movies, music and live entertainment with friends and family in the unique detached theater. The ultra-room features 32 fully reclining virtual reality seats, incorporating Buttkicker® simulators: If a Ferrari burns the asphalt, you see and feel the screech; if there’s an earthquake on screen, the shake is in your seat. In addition, the theater has a snack bar and soda station, popcorn machine, his and hers bathrooms and an audio and lighting room, even a green room. A full stage provides opportunities for live performances and plays. And, the room easily flexes for business meetings and live TV feeds. For outdoors entertaining, the home has three prep, serve and bar areas: one adjacent to the interior kitchen and living room; another just off the pool and spa with a giant screen viewable from the water; and a third, the stand-alone outdoor kitchen, which Benitez sited for large and small parties with appointments of the finest traditional kitchens. “With an appearance of the tropics, a touch of rustic stone and simple contemporary metal roofing, this low-slung structure was designed to refrain from blocking city views and still easily entertain your guests,” he explains. Adjacent to this kitchen are a putting green, fire pits, shuffleboard, lighted tennis and sport courts, numerous waterfalls and grottos and a pond. A fully-tiled 96,000-gallon pool with 12 diving points, underwater sound system, and a one-story waterfall with a secret grotto sitting 12 provides your family, friends and guests a rare multisensuous combination of homey intimacy and resort grandeur. www.Highline-Autos.com | 2017 Monterey Car Week Guide
