FROM KFC FARMS

Welcome to our 3rd Annual online sale. We are excited to again offer 15 yearling bulls and 3 lots of commercial Speckle Park heifers. New this year we are also offering 6 purebred replacement heifers.

This years offering consists of what I feel are the best group of bulls we have raised yet. The bulls are averaging heavier weaning and yearling weights as well as on average larger scrotal measurements. They have been fed a Total Mixed Ration consisting of barley silage, hay, oats and an added protein supplement and mineral package. We work closely with Brayden Schmidt at Bullseye Feeds with our entire herd to formulate rations that will encourage performance while still keeping longevity in mind. We again have tested the bulls for the Igenity data and Leptin scores, as well as carcass data. We aim provide as much data as we can for the buyers to utilize when purchasing our bulls.

The purebred heifers on offer are from the heart of our replacement pen. They are from cow families we have retained offspring from and we are confident they will work in anyones program. The commercial heifers again are offered from Ker-Kain Farms located in Shaunavon Saskatchewan. Vince and his family have been supporters of our program since we started and he has once again put together a really nice group of heifers for the sale.

Ken and his wife Judy are looking forward to attending the Sydney Royal this year in April. It will be good to finally put some faces to the names we read and hear about so often and see this breed thriving in a different country and climate.

• Bulls have been vaccinated at pasture turnout and weaning with Express FP 5 LV5 and Fermicon 7 as well as treated with Bimectin insecticide. They have received the Fusoguard footrot vaccine this winter as well as Clean-up Pour on insecticide.

• They have been inspected and semen tested by a certified veterinarian and are deemed healthy and satisfactory to breed.

• Bulls will be fed free of charge until June 1, 2023. Bulls remaining in the yard will require insurance at the cost of the buyer.

16K is the natural calf out of Shady Lady 14A, a donor cow owned with Green Valley farms. His sire Excalibur 345E has consistently produced power and performance. This bull is no exception. He is long bodied and smooth made, indexing 129 yearling weight. If you’re looking for a big framed, solid made, black bull this is your guy. A full sib sold to Ker-Kain Farms in 2021.

19K is the highest performing heifer bull in the sale offering. He is a big framed muscular bull out of a Logic 2 year old with a quiet disposition. His sire Colgans Guardian 43G has been a consistent and reliable heifer bull averaging 71 pound birthweights over 4 years of breeding.

Kriptonite 27K is our first US Smoke Em 7H son in our sale offering. He is a deep bodied wide chested individual with a lot of muscle and shape and still remaining myostatin free. He has a scrotal measurement of 40cms, the largest in our sale offering.

Kaboom 68K is the only bull to offer this year out of INC Fully Charged 75H, the pick of the INC bull pen a few years back. He is a soft made, stout individual with an incredibly wide base. If you’re wanting to add dimension with a myostatin free bull, don’t overlook him.

Kingpin 30K is the calf we showed alongside of his mother this fall at Lloydminster Stockade Roundup, Farmfair international, and Canadian Western Agribition. He is a powerful individual with immense muscle and mass. He was the winner of the Speckle Park breed division in the Presidents Classic at Agribition and is our heaviest adjusted 365 day weight at 1206 lbs. His ultrasound results also show a 104.13 cm2 ribeye measurement, the largest in our sale offering. Kick off 36K is another calf we showed this fall at Agribition coming out second in class. He carries an incredible amount of muscle and masculinity on a solid foot with ample amount of heel. 36K already possesses a herd bull appearance. He boasts a 682lb actual weaning weight indexing 122. 36K is packed full of performance in an attractive package.

Knight Moves 54K is an attractive Smoke Em son out of a solid black cow we bought from the Sunrise dispersal a few years back. She is a big bodied cow with a near perfect udder at 10 years old. Knight Moves is a smooth made hairy individual with a proud demeanour. He is wide topped, big hipped and a myostatin non carrier. He measured the highest IMF when ultrasounded at 5.60.

Kerosine 76K is the first Hawkeye 273H son we have ever offered for sale. Hawkeye was our 2020 high selling bull, selling to Ker-Kain Farms for $20,000. 76K types closely with his sire mirroring his mass and muscle shape. His mother is a 11 year old cow that raised the high selling bred heifer this year in the Big Chill sale for $9,000 to Highmark Stock Farms as well as one of our top three year olds retained in our herd. He measured the highest percentage of lean meat yield at 66.16 percent and has an incredibly docile temperament.

Key West 87K is a stout individual out of an Invictus daughter we acquired a few years back. She is a moderate framed perfect uddered cow that milks heavily. 87K is a moderate framed bull that indexed above average in both weaning and yearling weights.

Keytone 92K is a muscular bull with ample bone and foot structure. His dam goes back to River Hills Dandy 2U, a cow they flushed successfully over the years. His weaning to yearling ADG has been 3.43 lbs a day - one of the highest in the group.

Kickback 108K is another Guardian son out of an RH 60W Excalibur 345E daughter. He indexed above average in both weaning and yearling weights. He carries a smooth shoulder and small head, making him an ideal calving ease option. 108K measured a 5.3 marbling while measuring one of the lowest back fat measurements at 4.76.

Krimson Tide 126K is out of KFC Heroine 12H; a full sister to KFC Gladiator 1G, the bull we successfully showed the past few years. She is a deep bodied cow with nice teat placement and milks heavy. 126K is one of the youngest bulls in the offering and still boasts a 121 weaning index and 126 yearling index as well as a 37cm scrotal measurement.

Kalispell 130K is the first Gladiator son we have ever offered. He is the youngest bull in the sale out of a moderate framed perfect uddered Putnam daughter. He is a proud, smooth made individual with above average carcass merits and weaning and yearling indexes.

It is again a pleasure to be working with the great crew at KFC Farms. The KFC program continues to increase the quality of bulls on offer year after year. The 2023 sale offering is as deep as it ever has been, and the bulls have developed very well during the feeding period this year.

The KFC cow herd utilizes an organic mineral package throughout the year to ensure proper immune function and overall health of the mother cows and progeny is maximized. The bulls are grown on grass with their mothers, and then moved onto a total mixed ration that is designed to promote lean muscle growth. It is important that rumen health stays a priority throughout every stage of the bull’s development, therefore the ration includes organic minerals to maximize the overall nutritional health and development of the bulls. The feeding program is built to maximize forage utilization, enhancing longevity is the focus when developing the sale bulls. The total mixed ration consists of barley silage, mixed hay, oat grain, and a low

inclusion protein supplement formulated for the ration. The nutrition and development of the bulls along with the entire cow herd is continually being monitored to meet environmental and season conditions to compliment the animal’s overall health.

40K was in dam when we purchased RH 50T Double Joy 02D a few years ago with Black Diamond Speckle Park in Australia. 40K is a RH 5C First Rate daughter built just like her dam. Double Joy is a long bodied heavy milking cow that stands on a solid foot.
