From the BABLITZ FAMILY Welcome to our Rainbow Red Angus Dispersal Sale, a significant milestone that fills us with immense pride as we reach the final chapter of this journey. Over the past twenty-three years, we’ve been honored to serve the dedicated individuals who make the cattle industry not just a livelihood but a way of life. As we sit here to write this “welcome” and reflect on the past years that have brought us here, we are deeply appreciative of each and every customer and industry member who has helped, mentored, encouraged, and supported our program over the years. We were first drawn to the Angus Industry for the maternal abilities, solid colour and marketability the association had in place. Not to mention the foundation people who were approachable and encouraging for young farmers looking to get into the industry. Dave Wildman, Dave Lathwel, Rod Rosever were a few breeders that were impactful to the start-up of our program. The Journey building our own herd began with the purchase of our first angus cows from the Pot of Gold Sale (Allen and Moggie Sanders) in 1999. In the following years our herd fluctuated in numbers first up and then down due to challenges such as BSE and drought. In 2001 Wildmans invited us as a guest consigner to their annual bull sale and we have been selling alongside them ever since. We are truly appreciative of all the years selling bulls alongside the Wildman Family. In 2021 we were honoured to be recognized as the Canadian Red Angus Promotional Society Breeder of The Year award, the recognition of this award from our fellow breeders was truly humbling. Today we have built our herd into a group of females and bulls that we are truly confident in. When Brooke and Bryce got involved in the Junior Shows our lives shifted to revolve around that. Our children we fortunate to receive unforgettable experiences through the Junior Angus Associations, Summer Synergy, All Breeds and the Alberta Junior Angus Show. In addition to the junior shows, involvement in Red Round Up, Farmfair and Agribition has allowed us to showcase some of our greatest accomplishments from our herd. Our dispersal sale is not just an event; it’s a celebration of the remarkable journey we’ve been on together. It’s a testament to the enduring spirit of the cattle industry and the unity of our community. A disciplined approach to practicality is one of the most accurate descriptions of an operations practices that I’ve come across. To put it into my own words, I would tell you that the Rainbow outfit has displayed a single minded, methodical focus on perfecting the fundamentals of what makes sound and profitable cattle, while going the extra mile to make them good looking and stylish. The Bablitz name have roots in the cattle industry that are four generations established. While originating as a solely commercial cow/calf operation, Dave and Rhonda saw the opportunity to expand into the purebred sector with the announcement of the Blue Spruce reduction sale. With the family’s purchase at this sale, as well as selecting worthy females through various other offerings, the Rainbow Red Angus name as we know it today was established.

The Bablitz have long been promoters of the Red Angus breed in many regards; being fixtures at events such as Red Roundup and mainstays at junior and fall shows with Brooke and Bryce, where they have experienced tremendous success. Rainbow is not only a force in the setting of a show ring, they are co-hosts of one of the highlight Red Angus bull sales of the spring. Both Metric and the CWA Champion Bull Concorde have both gone under the gavel at the Joint Venture Bull Sale, fetching $120,000 evaluation and $32,000 respectively. Siblings, progeny, and services to these very bulls can be found within this offering. The Bablitz’s success and dedication to promoting the breed has not gone unnoticed, as Rainbow Red Angus was given the honour of being named the 2021 Breeders of the Year by the Canadian Red Angus Promotion Society. The success of Rainbow Red Angus would not be possible without knowledgable, dedicated, and hard working people at the helm. Dave and Rhonda have placed a large amount of well deserved faith in Kolby Heaven to manage and guide the operation in the proper direction. Kolby is one of the most talented young cattlemen in the industry right now, and the work he has done to turn Rainbow Red Angus into one of the premier breeders of Angus cattle in North America is nothing short of impressive. While I can use paper and ink describing the Rainbow cowherd, the cliff notes version of it would read as follows: perfect udders, quality feet. When I discussed a focus on the fundamentals that is apparent throughout the herd, this was my meaning. These females are easy doing in their look, attractive in type, and remain impressive throughout drought and adversity in weather that Northern Alberta remains infamous for. I would encourage you to make special note of the bred heifer sections in this offering, these young females have not yet reached the prime of their life and are still overwhelming in their quality. A young red cow leads the charge of this dispersal, who not only makes you take notice by her photo, but by the shear caliber of genetic power. While she may be an outlier in colour from the Red Angus bread and butter of the program, I would be negligent in not highlighting one of the most special Black females to go through a sale ring this year. Erica 77J made waves in the 2021 Opportunity Knocks, and has continued making friends as Kolby has campaigned her. December 4 will be a day of incredible opportunity in the Angus breed. While the purebred Rainbow herd may not be the largest cow herd in the land, it has been developed through a strict attention to detail, and a sole focus on what is productive and profitable. From KOLBY HEAVEN Mixed emotions… I see it printed all the time in catalogues but I don’t believe you truly understand what it means until you’re saying it yourself in a bit like this. When I joined in this endeavor with the Bablitz family 12 years ago, a Dispersal was always the eventual plan, however it is ironic, that the point at which you feel most comfortable showcasing your program in its entirety, is also when you feel you’re just really tapping into the breeding potential of the entire cow herd. I cannot thank Dave, Rhonda, Brooke and Bryce enough for the opportunity to manage this cowherd in the last decade. I mean, who in their right mind would turn over their cowherd to a 21 year old kid that had next to no prior background in the cattle industry. Long before I showed up in Cherhill, Dave had been building a program based on commercial merit. Those values have never wavered, and the herd continues to be strictly culled especially for this final sale. As Dave can attest to, “I love to cull cows” and “I don’t deal with bull***t”. Around here you will never hear the word “perfect” mentioned, but believe me when I say that there are a lot of cattle that possess traits that are as good as you will find. I believe the young cattle in this catalog to be the perfect representation of what we have strived to produce. The 2023 calf is “the best crop we’ve ever produced”. The calves themselves are great, but the predictability bred into them is their biggest strength. The 2 yr old females are the largest and best group we’ve ever calved. Very rarely would you have an opportunity to acquire young cows of this quality anywhere! The older cows are proven and fault free, they know their job and they do it every year. This will also be our last bull sale. Huge thank you to the Wildman family at Towaw Cattle Co. “You don’t have to worry about feet and udders here.” THE PILLARS OF OUR PROGRAM HAVE BEEN EMPHASIZED THROUGH CAREFUL AND DISCIPLINED SELECTION AND CULLING. FROM THE BEGINNING, WE HAVE BEEN RUTHLESS TO GET RID OF TRAITS THAT WOULD NOT BE PROFITABLE WITHIN OUR CUSTOMERS’ AND OUR OWN HERDS.

FERTILITY We run A Strict calving period, with a high emphasis on AI. In the last 12 years we haven’t used a bull born outside of the first cycle of the herd of origin. Several donors went into their teens without being bred twice in one year.

FEET AND UDDERS We work with a cull instead of fix, mentality. The biggest compliment we received this summer on tours, was that “you don’t have to worry about feet and udders here.”.

PHENOTYPE There’s no secret we like our cattle good looking, but they still have to be functional. It’s tough to make the next generation better if you don’t breed for it. We’ve spent years trying to create cattle with mass, muscle, rib shape and eye appeal.

BULL WINTERING FREE WINTERING ON ALL BULLS THAT SELL FOR $4500 OR MORE, TO APRIL 15, 2024 For those bulls that sell for less than $4500, a charge of $850 will be applied. Bull calves that stay at Rainbow Red Angus for wintering, will he guaranteed to pass a semen test by April 15 or a full refund will be issued. I aint gonna act like the choice for lot 1 was an easy one, but lets just say, I dig this thing. The only milking daughter of the workhorse 46B, and maternal sibling to bulls like the $22K Republic, $35K Legion, $120K valued Metric and lot 4 in this sale, Helix. From the time she was a young calf, 16F has been a standout. The combination of body mass, femininity, flexibility and pedigree was special. I’ve always been pretty open about selling our best in consignment sales, but we have some trees around here, and in the summer of 2018 I made darn sure whenever sales management was touring the she was deep in the sticks. She’s bred this year to Smack, and if she lays down and has a bull (because after 4 straight heifers, she’s due) I think were talking major herd bull. Or ya know, a heifer would be pretty cool too. I don’t know any other way to describe her than that she looks like a front pasture cow in the making. Deep bodied, wide topped super elegant head and neck, and the skeletal build we all look for. We sought out the semen on her sire, Granite, after seeing him as a yearling. He was a bull that excelled in foot quality, muscle expression, with a traditional angus head, thick crest and upheaded, cocky look. He read to me as cowmaker, and from what I’ve seen in these heifer calves, that appears to be real accurate. Progress, production, quality, its all here, take advantage! RED CARRIER. When we set out to create some diversity with these black red carriers, we like to use proven bulls. Rainfall is just that, a proven calving ease sire with the ability to create highly maternal offspring. Big time udder quality in a cow that’s as complete and balnced as any in the offering. I get it, you’re wondering why a cow like this is calved in April, and there’s a pretty reasonable explanation. In early May 2022 during a heat she injured her stifle. The decision was made to pen her and her calf by themselves to avoid further injury and its pretty tough to catch a heat on a cow by herself. Oofta, this things a load. We dug deep into the tank to make the flush that produced this cow. When I first got into the red breed I always seemed to find sons of Approval cows. So when 29X came along I thought that mating would work, news flash, it did. The only other female produced in the flush was one of my favorite heifers we have sold. Where to start with this young lady. Consitency is a huge trait we select for when buying females, and you’d be tough to find a cow as consistent as Bar-E-L Erica 74A, over the last 10 years. She is the dam of too many herd bulls and donor cows to count, and at her advanced age is still one of the best looking cows you will find. When I first laid eyes on 77J, my first thought was, “im going to buy her”. Well a few months later, she was Cherhill bound thanks to our fantastic partners, the Koberstein family at Triangle K Simmentals & Angus. I’ve never dealt with a female that was so bold in her skeleton, yet so feminine and refined. When dealing with the Erica cow family one thing you notice is how consistent the udder quality is and 77J is no exception, small teats and awesome attachment. This is simply a production based cow that can be shown and has done extremely well throughout her career, most recently being named Champion Angus female at the Olds Fall Classic, and I would expect her to be awfully competitive further along the show road, with her big strapping bull calf at side. This first group of ET calves are nothing short of impressive. The females are just like their dam and the two bulls are big and stout. I think there are even more potential in further matings and after you’ve seen what she’s already done, I don’t know how you can’t get excited.

TERMS

The terms of the sale are cash or cheque, payable at par at the sale location. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement has been made; no invoicing on buyers in attendance, unless previous arrangements have been made. Every animal sells to the highest bidder and in cases of disputes, the auctioneer’s decision will be final. Current exchange rates will be announced sale day. All monies are in Canadian funds. BIDDING

Each animal will sell to the highest bidder... no bybidding will be permitted. Disputes - Bidding will be reopened between the parties involved in dispute. If no further bidding is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision on all disputes will be final. ANNOUNCEMENTS

BREEDER’S GUARANTEE

As this is a dispersal sale, all cattle sell with no further guarantee. Any known defects will be announced before the cattle are sold. PREGNANCY INFORMATION

All serviceable age females have been pregnancy examined by an accredited veterinarian, giving an estimated length of gestation. This estimated gestation period shall be used only as a guideline to calving and is not a guarantee of actual service. CERTIFICATE OF REGISTRATION

Each animal will carry papers issued by the Canadian Angus Association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyer for each animal after payment has been made.

All announcements made from the auction block will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are therefore cautioned to pay close attention to such disclosures.

PEDIGREE ESTIMATES

Pedigree Estimates (PE) are created on the projected mating of the animal’s sire and dam based on averages of the two, creating estimated values that do not hold the same accuracy of actual EPDs issued from the association and should be used as such. LIABILITIES
