The Four Year Plan From freshman career planning to LinkedIn profile sessions, to conducting interviews on campus, students cultivate career options from day one. During their four years, HPU ensures students are equipped with the tools they need as they prepare for successful careers. The Four Year Plan overview:
FRESHMAN YEAR Explore the Possibilities Explore academic majors/minors
Discuss with your career advisor taking career and/or personality self-assessments
Participate in campus and community activities
Focus on academics and building a strong GPA
SOPHOMORE YEAR Engage and Prepare Learn about yourself through informational interviewing/job shadowing
Determine your major; meet with your career advisor for further clarification if needed
Join campus clubs/ organizations and professional associations

JUNIOR YEAR Link up and Connect Establish a LinkedIn profile
Research internship opportunities and conduct informational interviews

Meet with your career advisor to update your resume, create an effective cover letter and practice for interviews
Finalize plans for a summer internship

High Point University’s Office of Career & Professional Development offers an Exploring your Major and Career Path course aimed specifically at freshmen and sophomores. This class is ideal for students seeking career experience early on in their college career. HPU students gain hands-on, professional experience via observation and job shadowing under the direction of a subject matter expert in the field. In addition, a classroom component focusing on self-assessment, resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, personal branding, informational interviewing, networking, and mock interviewing is also included.
