HPU GRADUATE HOUSING
At HPU, campus life empowers students by helping them to create a strong sense of self, both in the classroom and in the residential environment To prepare professionals for the world as it is going to be, the Office of Student Life is always availble to help graduate students with any questions or guidance they may need for residential living, student engagement and support while living and learning on the HPU campus
AMENITIES & CONVENIENCES
Amenities and conveniences common among all graduate residential options include:

Wireless internet accessible everywhere on campus, and all rooms are wired for cable TV (no TV included).

HPU GRADUATE HOUSING
ELIGIBILITY FOR GRADUATE HOUSING
Graduate students must be accepted to and enrolled in their respective program and have paid the enrollment deposit in order to access the HPU Housing Portal Graduate students are encouraged to take advantage of University housing; however, it is not required
Undergraduate students enrolled in accelerated graduate programs (i.e., 3+2 or 2+4 programs), who may be taking both undergraduate and graduate level classes, will be required to participate in the undergraduate housing selection processes and reside in undergraduate housing locations until they have reached 96 or more completed credit
After a student has completed their undergraduate live-on requirement, accelerated graduate program students are welcome to pursue graduate housing options through the graduate housing selection process
Family Housing - Please note High Point University does not currently offer family housing for graduate students with spouses and/or children.
ACADEMIC TERMS
Maymester
May 9-31, 2025
Students who need housing during the Maymester term will need to request Maymester housing in the HPU Housing Portal.
High Point University will offer limited locations for Maymester housing in the following room types:
Single room - $515/week* (does not include meal plan)
Double room - $258/week* (does not include meal plan)
Summer, Fall and Spring Terms
May 26, 2025 to May 9, 2026
Graduate students who desire to live in university housing during the Summer may apply. The Summer term dates cannot be modified for any reason. Students who have agreed to the Summer, Fall and Spring terms (May 26, 2025 - May 9, 2026) may leave personal items in their unit.
Summer housing will be billed according to the rates below based on the selected housing tier assignment. Fall and Spring housing will be billed separately.

COMMUTERS
Graduate students who choose to live off-campus in nonuniversity owned housing are defined as commuters. Graduate students are encouraged to take advantage of university housing; however, it is not required
If you are in a tuition-free program, please contact Graduate Admissions and the Office of Student Accounts regarding details
Graduate students who desire to commute do not need to apply for graduate housing or seek permission to become a commuter
GRADUATE MEAL PLANS
Graduate students are able to opt-in or out of an on-campus meal plan Students may contact the Office of Student Accounts to adjust their meal plan selection For students who are enrolled in a program that begins in May or August when Undergraduate classes are not in session, they may purchase a three-week meal plan through the Office of Student Accounts
HOUSING ACCOMMODATIONS
The Office of Accessibility Resources and Service (OARS) aspires to empower students with disabilities to receive equal access to education and all aspects of university life Students who would like to receive housing accommodations while enrolled at High Point University must self-identify as a student with a disability by formally registering with OARS. Registration, documentation and participation in an interactive process are required for all requested accommodations For approved housing accommodations before annual deadlines, the Office of Student Life will ensure you have equal access, but it does not guarantee a specific residence hall or room within a residence hall.
Students currently utilizing their American’s with Disabilities Act (ADA) housing offer will have their accommodations automatically renewed Students who desire adjustments to prior accommodations or who previously declined their ADA housing offer and determine it is needed for the 2025-2026 academic year must inform OARS of this prior to February 12, 2025
Students who are both registered with OARS and approved for a housing accommodation(s) will be offered a housing assignment that addresses the functional limitations of their disability and meets the requirements of their accommodation(s) All residential properties are considered on campus Housing preferences will not be able to be considered in the placement decision.
Accept: If a student accepts the accommodation(s), they will be assigned to that location at a standard Tier 1 room rate Decline: Students who decline their accommodation offer will participate in the traditional graduate housing selection process.
Appeal: Students who disagree with the initial accommodation(s) or assignment have the opportunity to decline their offer and contact OARS to request adjustments Additionally, they may file a complaint through the Student Grievance procedure.
Approved accessible housing assignments are directly communicated by the Office of Student Life, not through the online room reservation process
Although the application for accessible housing and approved accommodation(s) are made through OARS, all other policies and procedures of on-campus living apply
NEW TO GRADUATE HOUSING
Students who are new to graduate housing at High Point University are encouraged to read below carefully. This includes newly admitted graduate students and students returning to a graduate program who have not previously lived in High Point University graduate housing.
Application Process and Self-Selection
The Graduate Housing Application will be open January 13 - February 28, 2025 for graduate students to confirm their intention to participate in the self-selection graduate housing process. In order to have access to the application, must be accepted to and enrolled in their respective program and have paid the enrollment deposit in order to access the HPU Housing Portal.
High Point University reserves the right to prioritize students enrolled in tuition-free programs to ensure they receive a housing assignment.
Group Formation
March 13-16, 2025
The student with the highest priority will determine the selection day for the entire group.
Self-Selection
March 17-27, 2025
Students who complete the application by the deadline of February 28, 2025 will be guaranteed access to the self-selection portion of the housing portal *Housing options will be based on availability at the time of selection with no guarantees. Tuition-free program selection: March 19-22, 2025
All remaining programs selection: March 24-27, 2025
Students who complete the application after the deadline of February 28, 2025 will be granted access to the self-selection portion of the housing portal beginning March 28, 2025 *Housing options will be based on availability at the time of selection with no guarantees.
On-going self-selection will continue until the housing portal closes on June 30, 2025. If a student has not made a selection and wishes to live in graduate housing, they must contact the Office of Student Life to be placed in a housing assignment based on availability.

RETURN TO GRADUATE HOUSING
Students who are returning to graduate housing at High Point University are encouraged to read below carefully. This includes students returning to a graduate program and have previously lived in High Point University graduate housing.
Housing Deposit
In order to have access to the application in the HPU Housing Portal, students must have paid the $750 housing deposit by February 13, 2025. The housing deposit must be paid separate from any tuition payments. Payment of the deposit does not guarantee a housing space at High Point University.
Students may log onto the HPU student portal at my.highpoint.edu and select Deposits from the menu bar. Then select Housing Deposit Payment.
Please note: The housing deposit only holds a room reservation until the first due date for Fall term bills. If a student’s tuition bill is not paid by the due date, their housing assignment will be removed. Once their account is paid in full, they will be assigned to an available room. Students with outstanding balances on their account will not be able to participate in the housing selection process.
If you request a refund of your housing deposit, refunds will not be processed until after June 1, 2025. Housing deposit refund decisions are determined by the HPU Business Office. Students cannot receive a refund for their housing deposit if they have an outstanding balance or if they maintain enrollment at High Point University.
Intent to Return
HOUSING PORTAL

The Intent to Return Application will be open February 3-28, 2025 for graduate students to re-select their current bed space for the 2025-2026 academic year. In order to have access to the application in the HPU Housing Portal, students must have paid the $750 housing deposit by February 13, 2025.
If students do not wish to return to their current housing assignment and wish to select a different assignment, they must decline their current return offer in the Intent to Return application. Once declined, the bed space is eligible for selection by another student. Instructions regarding self-selection will be emailed on March 12, 2025.
Please note: Students are ineligible to participate in the Intent to Return process if one or more of the following apply: Currently on housing or disciplinary probation
Received destruction/damage charges with restitution amounts totaling $500 or more
Received a second unauthorized party sanction
Charged with an unauthorized pet violation within an academic year

Self-Select a New Assignment March 17-18, 2025
Students who wish to self-select a new housing assignment will have access to the self-selection portion of the housing portal on March 17-18, 2025 *Housing options will be based on availability at the time of selection with no guarantees. There is no guarantee you can return to your original assignment.
On-going self-selection will continue until the housing portal closes on June 30, 2025. If a student has not made a selection and wishes to live in graduate housing, they must contact the Office of Student Life to be placed in a housing assignment based on availability.

Q: Will I have roommates or suitemates?
High Point University offers Tier 2 single rooms in select University Owned Houses, and both Tier 2 double rooms and Tier 3 single rooms in University Village
Rooms listed as a “single” will not share the bedroom with a roommate; however, the common areas of the unit will be shared with 2-5 other suitemates
Rooms listed as “double” will share the bedroom with a roommate and the common areas of the unit will be shared with 2-5 other suitemates.
Q: Who is eligible for graduate housing?
Graduate students must be accepted to and enrolled in their respective programs.
New graduate students must have paid the enrollment deposit to access the HPU Housing Portal.
Returning graduate students must have paid their $750 housing deposit to access the HPU Housing Portal and complete the Intent to Return application.
Q: I’m enrolled in an online program Am I eligible for housing?
Yes, online students are eligible for graduate housing
Q: If I’m in an accelerated graduate program (i.e., 3+2, 2+4, etc.), are there any implications for housing?
Students who are part of an accelerated program are eligible to live in graduate housing after they have completed 96+ credit hours or lived on-campus as an undergraduate student for six consecutive semesters
Once the above requirements have been met, students may either move to graduate housing or may remain in their undergraduate assignment until they have a graduation date for their undergraduate degree
Once a student decides to reside in graduate housing, they cannot return to undergraduate housing
Q: Is graduate housing available year-round? If so, what pricing is availble?
Yes, graduate housing is offered year-round in different academic terms, each billed separately

Q: What is included in graduate housing?
Our graduate housing options include a variety of amenities and conveniences All options are located adjacent to the heart of campus with accessible HPU shuttle transportation, complimentary wireless internet and included utilities, and are fully furnished In-unit laundry, a full kitchen with standard appliances, common dining and living areas, and shared bathrooms by residents of the unit are notable features

Pets are not allowed in the residence halls at High Point University Animals must be approved as an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) through the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) An animal that is not approved through the OARS office will be considered an unauthorized pet and will need to be removed from campus

Q: Does HPU offer family housing?
HPU does not currently offer family housing for graduate students with spouses and/or children
