100 Years at HPU
In 1924 High Point College opened as a cooperative venture between the Methodist Protestant Church and the City of High Point. Enrollment was 122 students. In 2024 Enrollment is 6,500+.

Transformation Like No Other
High Point University has transformed from 91 landlocked acres to over 520 acres today. At High Point University, every student receives and extraordinary education in an inspiring environment with caring people at one of the 14 schools including: Congdon School of Health Sciences, David R. Hayworth School of Arts and Design, Earl N. Phillips School of Business, Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy, Nido R. Qubein School of Communication, Norcross Graduate School, Doug Witcher School of Humanities and Behavioral Sciences, Kenneth F. Kahn School of Law, Teresa B. A Day On Not Off — HPU Honors Martin Luther King Jr.’s Legacy Through Service
• As part of the tradition to honor Dr. King, HPU held the annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Worship Service in Hayworth Chapel on campus. The keynote speaker was Rev. Dr. Cynthia Hale, founder and senior pastor of Ray of Hope Christian Church in Decatur, Georgia.
• High Point University students, faculty and staff honored the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by volunteering more than 2,000 hours of service to more than a dozen service projects on campus and around the city of High Point.

BIG SOUTH Basketball CHAMPIONSHIPS
• HPU hosted the “Hercules Tires Big South Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships”
• First time High Point hosted the combined tournament
• Only the sixth time that all rounds of the Big South Basketball Championships were held in North Carolina
• 1999 and 2000 in Asheville, 2016 in Buies Creek and Asheville, 2021 and 2022 in Charlotte
• High Point provided free parking for all fans attending
• Qubein Center opened in September 2021
• 4,500- seat Nido and Mariana Qubein Center
• Ranked in the top three nationally the past two seasons for facilities up top 5,000 seat capacity
• Home to the second-largest videobard in North Carolina
• Features a Quince Imaging court projection system, darktronic ribbon boards, courtside suite and club level suites/loge seating and full chairback seating
• HPU previously hosted Big South Women’s Basketball Championship from 2009-2012 at the Millis Center
• Longest consecutive host of the women’s event in league history

• Acclaimed playwright John Cariani returned to a familiar landscape with NOT QUITE ALMOST, a world premiere that he has developed with HPU’s Department of Theater & Dance.
• NOT QUITE ALMOST is a series of poignant, funny, and inspiring vignettes confronting the challenges of contemporary young life.
• High Point University has been recognized with the 2022 Tree Campus Higher Education award, formerly known as Tree Campus USA®. This is the 14th consecutive year the university has received this designation for its continued commitment to creating a healthy environment on campus full of natural beauty.
• The Mariana H. Qubein Arboretum and Botanical Gardens at HPU feature 3,700 different plants, including more than 700 varieties of trees. The arboretum and gardens feature several tree collections. These include 48 varieties of redbuds, 65 different varieties of dogwoods, 40 varieties of flowering cherries and 13 different varieties of magnolias.

• Commencement Speaker, Dr. Vincent Price
• Vincent Price, president of Duke University, delivered HPU’s Commencement address to graduate students on May 2, 2024. Dr. Price is the 10th President of Duke University, where he is also Walter Hines Page Professor of Public Policy and Political Science in the Sanford School of Public Policy and Trinity College of Arts and Sciences.
• A leading global expert on public opinion, social influence and political communication, President Price came to Duke in 2017.

• Bachelor’s Degree Commencement Speaker, Mr. Glenn Stearns
• Glenn Stearns, an internationally known businessman and star of Discovery Channel’s “Undercover Billionaire,” provided HPU’s Commencement address for undergraduate students on May 4, 2024. Stearns is the founder and CEO of mortgage banker Kind Lending and host of the “Grit Happens” podcast. His life story is shared in a new book, “Integrity: My Slow and Painful Journey to Success.”
Our students enjoyed summer internships and time with their friends and family.
