This also enables students to access files across devices and edit documents collaboratively in real-time.

To download and install these powerful software tools for use on your personal computers go to the Portal, click on Microsoft 365 and follow the instructions at the top of the page.

Student PlaNNing

Student Planning is a self-service tool that helps students build an education plan for their entire college career, register for courses, review their schedule, view progress towards their program and request to meet with a faculty advisor or Student Success Coach all in one place.

Visit Student Planning through the Portal or at myaccount.highpoint.edu.

DUO AccOUNT SECURITY

HPU utilizes Duo Multifactor Authentication (MFA) for account security when users are not using our secure networks. MFA is used to verify a user’s identity at login and adds additional security steps to keep your information secure. HPU requires Duo authentication when users access Microsoft 365 applications and Workday off campus. This requires approving your login via a text message or push notification on your mobile device. You can find more information about Duo at duo.highpoint.edu

Information Security

Students should be cautious of the types of content downloaded while on the web. Viruses and other malicious programs result from visiting certain websites, downloading software, plugging in portable drives and clicking on links in suspicious emails.

At High Point University, students are required to maintain an active anti-virus software to help prevent these types of unwanted attacks. You can find the link to download OIT’s recommended free personal antivirus software on service.highpoint.edu by searching anti-virus.

STARFISH

Starfish is an early alert system that is accessed through Blackboard to support student academic success at High Point University. Through Starfish, faculty and university administrators can refer students to the appropriate support resource. Students have the ability to view all individuals who are in their ‘success network’ through Starfish allowing them quick and easy access to obtain the necessary support they may need. The goal of Starfish is to identify at-risk students as early as possible in the term to connect them with support in order to positively impact student success and persistence.

project discovery HPU’s Plan for Undeclared Students

Nationally, an estimated 50% of students enter college undecided on their major. In addition, an estimated 75% of students change their major at least once before graduating. HPU’s Project Discovery provides the guidance and resources that students need to discover their passion and achieve their goals.

It Starts with You and Your SucceSS Coach

As an undeclared student, you will partner with a Success Coach who is passionate about helping you discover a major that is a great fit for you, while helping you make positive connections with organizations on campus in which you have interest. This happens as early as the December before you enroll — for early decision admitted students — or the March before for regular admitted students. You will have support and guidance from a caring Coach who understands the various options available to you.

Check out the eight “Light Bulb” Moments of Project Discovery—your guide to uncovering your academic passion. 2 3 5 7 8 6 4 1

There’s a ClaSS for That!

Enroll in Exploring Your Major and Career Path, the one-credit course designed to help you explore your options. A Career Advisor will guide you through self-reflection and assessment tools such as PathwayU. You’ll also be able to connect with professionals in fields you are thinking about to ask thoughtful questions and learn more.

They’ve Walked in Your Shoes.

You aren’t the only student who entered college as undeclared — in fact, it is common across the entire nation! Sometimes we learn best from someone like us — a peer. FirstYear Navigators are HPU students selected by the Office of Student Success to mentor first-year students. As an undeclared student, you will be connected with First-Year Navigators who were once undeclared, too. They know exactly what you are going through and will help you explore your options.

WHAT’S MY MAJOR WEDNESDAY

This event, hosted each semester by the Office of Student Success and the Office of Career and Professional Development, is a great opportunity to work with Success Coaches and Career Advisors to explore major and career options and discover the best fit for you!

What Can You Do With This Major?

When you find a major that seems great, you will want to also understand what you do with that degree once you graduate. HPU’s Career Advisors and their Career Development website will help you understand how your major translates to real-world career paths.

CarEEr & ProfeSSional Development Advisors: Your People

You’ll see them in some of your classes and engage with them in Cottrell Hall. Your Career Advisor will explain the many resources available to you in the Career Center — the headquarters of the years of support and guidance that might lead to your face landing on the HPU Young Alumni Career Wall!

COFFEE CONNECTIONS, FACULTY MEET AND GREETS, AND Fireside Chats

Throughout each semester, faculty members host opportunities to meet with students who may have questions about a specific major. Casual in nature, these interactions allow you to connect with faculty, learn more about various majors and identify best-fit majors! You can attend as many of these meetings as you want, and you always have the opportunity to visit with a professor one-on-one to discuss opportunities within a major.

PEEr CarEEr Advisors

Visit with the Peer Career Advisors (PCA) to get additional support. PCAs help you get started crafting a resume that can lead to summer jobs and internships to explore hands-on! With convenient walk-in hours in the Career and Professional Development Office, there is continuous support to guide you on your journey.

We have a program that will help you get started. Our Research Rookies Program is a voluntary, two-semester program for first-year students designed to help get you involved in the culture of creative and scholarly work at HPU. The program offers students activities, talks, workshops and events that help you get started on an independent project with a faculty mentor in any field! Scholarly and creative independent work helps you develop the broad skills that make you more competitive for any future job you pursue. This experience in college is what will distinguish you when you graduate.

For more information, talk to your Success Coach or Contact Dr. Joanne Altman, Director of Undergraduate Research and Creative Works (urcw@highpoint.edu).

STUDENT LIFE

Religious life

HPU Chapel and the Religious Life Office endeavors to build a beloved community on the HPU campus by deepening students belonging to one another, aiding students to become who they are called to be, and beholding God’s grace in all that we do. We keep these core commitments of belonging, becoming, and beholding through weekly Christian worship, small group bible studies, interfaith engagement, mission trips, pilgrimages, and a numerous relationship focused programs that grow and mature the spiritual lives of students.

Fraternity and Sorority Life

Fraternity and Sorority Life at High Point University is a vibrant community of approximately 1,500 students. These organizations offer students opportunities for personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships. Through social events, philanthropic efforts, and academic support, members form strong and meaningful bonds and contribute positively to campus culture. The Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life works diligently to support all organizations and encourage continued growth within our community.
