LETTER FROM THE
Editor W
elcome, to our March Issue. We love to do something a little different with each issue of High Rise Life. We are devoted to all that’s new, now and entirely current. As we head into spring 2017, we explore some of the latest fashion trends gracing the runways from hues of pink from Valentino and Loewe. We reach new heights with Gucci’s grandiose loafers decorated with studs and Balenciaga adds voluminous sleeves reminiscent of the 80’s in its spring collection. It’s going to be plenty of stripes and bold and big is the new mantra. Let’s make a statement this spring! Shall we? At High Rise Life, we love campaigning new and burgeoning talent. It seemed ideal, that Ddendyl Hoyt from season six of NBC’s popular reality television show, “The Voice” was perfect to interview. If you haven’t heard her sing, she has that deep country blues inspired unique and sultry voice. As we go into the highlight of our issue, we pay tribute to The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas in our interview with Ailie Billingsley, Director of Residences. Join us, as she shares first hand this truly remarkable property. The Mandarin Oriental stands out for having many luxury amenities and international famed recognition, but for those car enthusiasts; its exotic car club might be quite the complimentary treat. We had the pleasure of interviewing Frank Napoli, resident and founder of Auto Club at The Mandarin. Which, has grabbed media attention and reputation for helping charities and local businesses throughout the city. Peruse our pages to find coverage of the season’s most wondrous high-rise events, including our magazine launch party at Elena Bulatova Fine Art Gallery at Aria. We want to personally thank Elena Bulatova Fine Art Gallery, Designs by Simmons Fine Furniture, and Dream Racing for sponsoring and making this a spectacular event. Enjoy this issue and take on the energy of this month as we transition into spring! Best Wishes,

arch!!! Where is the time flying?
You just moved in…over six months ago, how can time go by so fast? Furniture is in place, accessories are hung and lighting has been installed so all that beautiful art glows as the artist designed it to do. BUT…..something just seems to be missing. You love what you’ve accomplished, but it is missing the WOW factor you want for this special home. Let’s talk slabs of stone for a wall, or in the kitchen or bathroom. Beautiful slabs of stones have been imported from places like China, Brazil, and Italy for generations. These pieces are works of art and can be, that WOW you’ve been looking for all along. You could create a dramatic statement in your living room, by putting a backlight on ONYX stone above your fireplace. Instead of glass sliding doors on your master shower, you could put an access wall of stone. The world of WOW awaits you. Visit a stone yard with your designer and begin to see all the possibilities.

Recently, I walked into a kitchen where the backsplash tiles had been painstakingly removed from the wall, but the client had no idea what to put there instead. They also wanted the current granite counter tops and step up demi wall removed, that is evident in many kitchens designs from the 90’s. In order, to expand the counter as an island, where guests could sit,
chat and enjoy a glass of wine. When we went to the stone yard, they could not get over the possibilities before them. Taking guidance from their designer, they found a beautiful stone, that could be their art piece on their wall. We also, found a gorgeous piece of marbled quartz for the countertops and even
had some left to do the wet bar. Thus, allowing us to unify color and design and create an open design concept. The ways in which you can focus on a slab of stone become endless. If you found a dramatic piece, it could become the table top in your dining area.
Backlit at night to show all the beautiful variations in the stone. Come on, let your natural state of mind meld with the fabulous designs from Nature!

MANDARIN AUTO CLUB Frank Napoli Written by Selcen Kavruklar
O
ne of the benefits of living at The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Las Vegas is its luxury auto club. When founder, Frank Napoli moved into The Mandarin Oriental, he noticed a vast array of luxury cars ranging from Lamborghinis, Ferrari’s and restored classic vehicles. Being a car enthusiast, Napoli recalled, “A lot of these amazing cars were sitting under covers, covered in dust and barely driven.” Napoli, who is a Las Vegas native and local luxury Realtor with Napoli Group at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services, never imagined he would live on the strip. When he got an offer, he could not refuse on his house; he packed his things and decided to move into The Residences at Mandarin Oriental. “I looked at other high-rises, but I was impressed by the level of quality and exceptional staff here. High-rise life at the Mandarin is a luxury experience, it’s an exhilarating adventure for me.” Furthermore, Napoli wanted to get to know his neighbors first hand. When he saw luxury, cars lined up at valet, he knew his passion for cars was shared amongst his neighbors. Napoli thought, “What a great way to get my neighbors involved, meet and share our common love of cars.
Mandarin supported my idea and the auto club was born.” The auto club meets up once a month over cars and coffee. It is open to Mandarin Oriental residents and their guests. At each meeting the club tours out with their cars and stops by to support a local business or supports local charities like Three Square Food Bank, Saint Jude, and Children of The Department of Family Services to name a few. Napoli, who owns a few cars of his own loves classic cars the most. He notes, “I like cars you can’t buy. My favorite, is my 1969 Camaro with 775 horsepower, completely restored with modern day technology.” Since its launch the group has gained a lot of momentum, and the attention of both media and support of local businesses throughout the city, and continues to flourish. Napoli points out that, “The Mandarin Auto Club has built powerful relationships and helped the community at large.” Exotic cars and coffee... What a treat that is for the car aficionado! If you own a business and or are interested in participating, please contact Frank Napoli for details on how to get involved at www.mandarinautoclub.com

NOWRUZ! SPRING! Fire of
Written by Yelena Brezhneva
A
ncient cultures all over the world have the deepest respect for Mother Nature and its cycles. At the basis of life itself, there has always been a time to plant and time to harvest. Recently, we’ve celebrated New Year’s Eve. After that, we celebrated the Chinese New Year, but for some New Years is actually on March 20th! Spring Equinox is one of the most important days for humanity, since the beginning of time. Understanding, the earth cycles can lead to abundant crops and the continuation of life here on earth. The Spring Equinox is a magical day when day and night are equal in duration. During this day nature awakens from its sleepy winter.... In the spring, life itself seems to be happy with its abundant blooming colors of trees and flowers. The outside world turns into a rainbow-like a road leading into the mystery of a new year. In the 10th century, famous scolar Biruni shared, that Persian people’s belief of Nowruz marked the first day, that the universe went into motion. Many cultures have different names for this day. For countries in the Balkans, Black Sea area, the wide range of the Caucus mountains, and in Central & Western Asia this day is called Nowruz, and has been celebrated for over 3,000 years by every generation! This holiday is very popular among the Persian population across the world, and today it is still a holy day for Zoroastrians. This holiday is shared amongst indigenous people in Central & South America such as the: Inca, Mayan, and Aztecs. The Christian Church considers March 21st an equinox day. Persians, consider it to be on March 20th and celebrate it for 13 days. Jewish Passover is usually on the first full moon after the equinox. This exemplifies the fact, that Mother Nature knows only love, and unites people from every continent together in celebration. The Celebration of Spring- the Spring that animates life, like the spirit of love that kisses the earth and makes it bloom its flowers is a beautiful tradition to have. It’s amazing to see that the Greeks, Jews, Arabs, Sabians, Armenians, Persians and many other cultures have their own version of this celebration. From the famous Persian poet, Omar Khayam, who is a source of beauty, wisdom, and the mysteries of life: Raise your cups like tulips springing up at Nowruz. Drink wine happily with a tulip-faced companion, if you have a chance. As this wheel of fortune, like a storm, can knock you down in a flash. Together, we can raise a cup and celebrate like all the ancients did, in every continent, in every country for 3,000 years and more to come! yelena@luxuryestates.com

SPRING I N T O FASHION MARCH 2017 FASHION TRENDS
Is your closet ready for spring fashion? Time to shed off the winter layers and make a bold statement in style. Here are the latest trends dominating the runways this spring.
Written by Marie Guarino
Pink Will Reign Supreme While pink has absolutely made its presence among our most loved excellence items and adornments this year, we’re willing to wager that the bubblegum shade will keep on reigning preeminent in 2017. Brands like Céline, Valentino, Gucci, Loewe, and more conveyed a combination of rose-shaded ensembles for spring 2017.
Balloon sleeves Spring/Summer 2017 Roberto Cavalli Collection
The bigger, the better is your new season mantra with regards to sleeves, as per Loewe, Jil Sander, and Marc Jacobs. Leg of Mutton shapes was mainstream with those needing to behold back to the Eighties, while others made puff shapes in firm textures for a present day compositional impact.
Utility It is good news for lovers of khaki shirts; safari tones and solid cotton shapes. These trends will be dominant in the coming spring and summer. The best upgrades came as high-waisted and paper-bag trousers pants at Kenzo and Tibi, or layered shirt dresses at Mulberry.
Activist Chic After the historical Women’s March in D.C., designers like Stella McCartney, best known for her reasonable morals, sent down variants that read “Girls Thanks, and No Fur, No Leather,” while Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri got loud for her “We Should All Be Feminists” tee. The message is uproarious and clear: Let your shirt do all the talking one year from now.

Statement Earrings Are Still Going Strong It is not true that you have to try new things every time; statement earrings have been a most loved of the mold set and partygoers this year, and it appears the pattern will keep on dominating in 2017. Brands like J.W. Anderson, Delpozo, and Proenza Schouler all sent down big and bold baubles down the runway—some that even plunge well past the shoulder.

Revolting Shoes Are Making a Comeback This is a trend that none of us may have thought about it. Crocs, the footwear of decision for nurses and culinary specialists around the globe, at last, got a style makeover because of Christopher Kane. Now we cannot wait anymore to analyze the strong souls coming in this season.

MEN' S FASHION Written by Caleb Nealy Photos by Christyn Nealy
HELLO AND WELCOME to the new Men’s Fashion column! My name is Caleb Nealey; I am an Instagram Fashion Influencer (@calebnealeystyle), and also run a website geared to help men further their sense of style (calebnealey.com). I am going to start off with just a little background with how I became involved in fashion, and becoming an Influencer. I began having an interest in fashion when I started high school; it was all about looking more mature and presenting myself in a better way. Personally, I believe one’s style displays self-respect.
Being a fan of fashion, I had always envied fashion influencers on social media, I thought it was so cool, and I wanted to be one. I wanted to show people from different countries my style. So after high school, I decided to go for it! I started taking pictures displaying my outfits, and posting them on social media. After awhile, my page began to grow with more people enjoying my posts, and being a fan of my style. When my page kept growing, I started to receive requests to start up a fashion blog; to go more in depth about fashion rather than just showing my outfits. I had the thought before to start up my own blog and never really went through with it, but when I got messages requesting for me to start one up, I didn’t hesitate! Being a fashion influencer has given me many great opportunities, the most recent is being able to share with you, the readers of High Rise Life magazine.

WITH THE TRANSITION
FROM WINTER TO SPRING
It is time to talk about fashionable options for the spring! The only problem spring poses is the weather, since it fluctuates constantly in the springtime.
to enjoy the nice spring afternoon on a lunch break, whatever you want! That’s the beauty of layering, and can always take a layer off; rather than wishing you had brought a jacket with you.
The best approach for fashion in the spring is preparation. Preparation is key in the spring when planning outfits. Prepare for cold, breezy, warm, and where I’m from, rain. The best way to prepare for the weather changes that comes with spring, is layering. In the morning it tends to be chilly, afternoon it could get warm, or rainy, and it could go back to cold at night. You never know what spring will bring; all I know is that we are getting closer to summer!
As far as the rest of the outfit goes, you can incorporate these items; for jackets: a bomber jacket or a trench coat. For shirts: a classic button-down, plain tee, and a graphic tee. For pants: slacks, chinos, or a cool distressed pair of jeans. And lastly, shoes: you can’t go wrong with a pair of Chelsea boots, it can give a classy or casual look; some sneakers, and some dress shoes if you want to go with a more dapper look. With this short-list of items, the possibilities a virtually endless!
Let’s talk about layering. I’ve been the victim of cold spring mornings too many times for me not to layer during this season. I would suggest a coat in the morning; the type of coat differs on location and climate. You could have a simple bomber, or denim jacket if the mornings are not that cold. Or you could have a trench coat if your climate is in the freezing temperatures to start the day off. The perks of layering is that you can leave the coat in your car as the day goes on, or possibly leave it at the office
Do not worry about your style being different. Embrace being different, fashion is all about trying new things and seeing what works. @calebnealeystyle calebnealey.com Nealey.caleb@gmail.com

ust imagine... You are standing in an ancient Mayan city surrounded by the rich greenery of lush tropical jungles. The air is wet, and you can smell rain. Nature is blossoming and is getting ready to explode with even more colors in flowers and trees after a rainy tropical season. Everything is alive, everything is vibrating with life and pulsating with bright colors. Flora and fauna are abundant here, and animals are prowling with grace and ease.... This is what it feels like when you see the new Spring-Summer 2017 Collection by Roberto Cavalli. Forty-five years after he began designing fashions, this line is still true to its origin. I’m inside the biggest Roberto Cavalli store in America, located in The Shops at Crystals in Las Vegas, Nevada, surrounded by Swarovski crystals chandeliers and lots of mirrors and gold. I feel like I'm in a gold labyrinth that reflects colorful luxury around me. Oh yes, and liquid gold – French champagne is served here as well, just the way I like it – and you'd like it too! Entwined golden snakes adorn shoes, purses, jewelry, and even the door handles of his store; they are but one of designer Cavalli’s signature symbols. After all, for the ancient Mayans, the snake was a symbol of wisdom, life force, and rebirth. Wearing shoes made from real snake skin or appearing in a jacket or jeans featuring snake skin patterns will make you feel like an ancient goddess! Jaguars are embedded in many pieces for men and women. Roberto Cavalli is famous for his patented unique work with leather, which is in abundant here. After all, ANIMAL PRINT is Roberto Cavalli DNA. Animals are powerful totems for Native Americans for a reason. Roberto Cavalli Store Manager Cristina Daireaux, excitedly shared that the 2017 collection is full of Bohemian looks with lots of colors and flowers. “Stunning and unique runway pieces are already being

Feathers are a symbol of Great Spirit. To be given a feather meant to be chosen from many and to receive a gift from above. Fashion consultants here love to help style their clients to find their own unconventionally best look. Do you know your style? What a pleasure to be a unique YOU! Dresses with Mayan and Aztec designs off the shoulders offer a dramatic flair. You can feel the fabric gently falling and hugging your body with beautiful and colorful prints. from a stretchy material – a must this season. I must mention that bright 70's jeans are a great addition to any wardrobe, but you already know that! Store Manager Cristina Daireaux states that, “This collection has timeless pieces that you could wear for ten or twenty years, and they will still look brand new. This line represents the woman of today.” Cher, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, and Ciara all mention, that they appreciate Roberto Cavalli’s collection at this store. Red Carpet events like the Oscars, the Grammys, the Cannes Film Festival, or any other flashy event cannot be imagined without the glamour of Roberto Cavalli!

as Vegas, known to most as ‘Sin City’, is far more than a tropical paradise in the desert amassed with over-the-top luxury hotels and an adult playground with a bevy of nightclubs, live production shows, restaurants featuring the best chefs from around the world, and casinos that attract millions of daily visitors from many countries who are drawn in by the allure of possibly striking it rich. People come to Las Vegas for many reasons; some come to let loose, dress up, feel good, and have fun by breaking free from the everyday hustle and bustle. However, as they rush from one place to the next, they are missing what is possibly the most spectacular attribute about Las Vegas today. A Mecca for entertainment, Las Vegas has

recently become the music capital of the world. The old hot spots for future superstars such as Los Angeles or New York no longer hold the crown. Las Vegas is where the music superstars of yesteryear, today, and tomorrow are all gathered in one place. Every nook and cranny throughout the city is filled with exceptional musicians performing throughout most hours of the day and night. For example, thousands of people walk through The LINQ Promenade to go from one casino to the next or to take a ride on the High Roller, and there will be a few street musicians playing off to the side. They are not street musicians just trying to make a living on tips; event planners for the casino association hire the performers. Few visitors don’t take the time to stop and listen to the artists, and what they are unknowingly missing could be the next music
superstar. Case in point, as people stroll through the Promenade, there is an attractive young girl in her early 20’s playing a keyboard and is a vocal powerhouse with a sultry and unique voice that reaches inside and plucks the heart strings who is a shining star on the rise. Some people might recognize her; her name is Ddendyl Hoyt, and she was a Season 6 contestant on NBC’s popular reality television show, “The Voice” with Colombian Superstar, Shakira as her coach. During the show, Shakira stated that, Ddendyl has one of the most unique voices to appear on The Voice. Ddendyl was born in South Carolina, but her desire to become a musician began when she was a child when her family moved to a rural area of Castile, NY where her supportive parents nurtured her. “I’ve always been very musically inclined. I started taking lessons at age 7 with the violin. A little later on, I started the Oboe. I have a pretty extensive background in classical music,” says Ddendyl. She began studying Classical Vocal Music and singing Opera at the age of 9. Ddendyl taught herself how to play the piano so she could compose her own music. The incredibly talented young girl, dedicated and focused on a career in music, obtained a well-deserved scholarship at the prestigious Interlochen Academy of Arts. It was there that she got into other genres of music such as Hip-Hop and Blues, but her roots are with Country music. “I grew up amongst the cows and corn,” she giggles, “Literally!” While focusing on her studies, she landed a deal with a talent agency in Los Angeles. Ddendyl was only given the weekend to pack and relocate. She stayed in Los Angeles for four years before signing with a small label in New York City. A year later, she realized the label was not a good fit for her because she wanted to change direction and focus on down home blues and country music. She then relocated to DC to pursue a full-time career as a musician playing venues in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City. During that time, Ddendyl was named “2014 Artist of the Year” for the Western New York Area by the Batavia Daily News. She was then contacted by Caesars Entertainment and relocated to Las Vegas. As a resident, she works performing cover songs in lounges while working on original music. Ddendyl, explains, “Moving to Las Vegas was the best financial decision I’ve ever made.” When asked about her inspirations, with an infectious laugh, Ddendyl responds, “Jonny Cash and Reba McEntire are my all-time inspirations. Unfortunately, I never got to see Johnny Cash perform live, but I know many people that did, and I’m a sponge listening to their stories whether they got to see him live or actually toured with him; I soak up their experiences and live vicariously through them.” Her other influences are Chris Stapleton and Gretchen Wilson which can be heard on the groovy, rockin’ Country Opus, “Kicking and Screaming” from her EP ‘Lonely Heart’. “I’ve tried a lot of different forms of music trying to find who I am in the industry,” she adds, “It’s amazing, they always say you come back home, and that’s very true when it comes to music. I don’t physically live where my parents are, but musically, I’m back home to my roots where I
started with country and blues.” Ddendyl had the privilege of sharing the stage with ACM (Academy of Country Music) New Artist of the Year, Justin Moore in a sold out concert in Traverse City, Michigan. She has also performed with Sebastian Mikael and Grammy Award Nominee, Elle Varner. Ddendyl has also had the pleasure of participating in the Chasing Dreams Tour and the Texas Swing Tour with fellow “Voice” contestant Clarissa Serna. She had the pleasure of sharing the spirit of the Holidays for Macy’s in Washington, DC with the new face of Under Armor and Prima Ballerina, Misty Copeland. Ddendyl is also a featured singer in The Rasta Rock Opera.
Her first single will be released in the late Spring. She hopes that the new album will catapult her career to the next level. To see Ddendyl perform live, her current Las Vegas residency is The LINQ Promenade every Tuesday and Wednesday. She also performs at the Red Rock Casino every Monday. She can also be caught rotating from the Hard Rock Casino and the M Resort on Fridays. Blake Shelton Blake Shelton may have chosen the amusing title "Pure BS" for his fourth album, but it's the "pure" part of the name that most aptly describes the music. To get that "pure" sound, Shelton pushed himself harder than ever before as a singer and as a writer and stepped out of his comfort zone in the studio to work with some first-rate producers who pushed him even more. The end result, Shelton believes, is his best album to date, and one that has already spawned the hit single "Don't Make Me." Blake Shelton is bringing his “Doing It to Country Songs tour to Vegas at MGM Grand.

In their first meeting, Woodley and Thompson engaged in a memorable Fight of the Night battle that left fans on their feet and three judges unable to come up with a winner. Plus, Khabib Nurmagomedov battles Tony Ferguson for the interim lightweight title and two of the greatest strikers in mixed martial arts history meet in another highly-anticipated rematch, as Alistair Overeem battles "The Super Samoan," Mark Hunt. Off The BEATEN PATH HORSEBACK RIDING Written by Francesca Maria
S
pring is coming soon! Are you City Slickers in the mood to get out of the city for a few hours and have a fun Wild West outdoor experience? One way to enjoy nature in the surrounding desert of Las Vegas is to go on a Horseback Riding Tour. My favorite tour is in Red Rock Canyon. Less than a 20-minute drive from the Las Vegas Strip, the entire family (over the age of six) can saddle-up on well trained horses (no horseback riding experience necessary), that are led by expert and very polite wranglers and you can ride off into the Sunset or Sunrise of our beautiful desert. Average tours are about 60-minutes, and the whole family will feel exhilarated. I will never forget the fun birthday event I did with my daughters for my youngest daughter’s 10th birthday; it was in the middle of December riding in the snow. The highlight of the event for me was the awesome Kodak moment, once we reached the top of the ridge on our trail. The only way to see this landscape is by horseback because there are no public paved roads, and is pretty far from the hiking trails. The mountains and scenery were breathtaking. The highlight for the birthday girl was making a snowman and then getting back to the stables, where we sat by the fireplace and had a delicious cup of hot cocoa. These tours are available yearround, but March is the best time of the year to explore these trails on horseback because it is the beginning of the blooming season and the foliage is green from the recent rains. For tourists visiting Las Vegas and staying at a hotel, they have a special 5-hour expedition, where they take you to the horse ranches and provide you with entertainment and a real Cowboy style meal, along with an hour long delightful trail ride. They have three tours to choose from and they even pick you up at your hotel and bring you back afterwards. They have the Morning Maverick Horseback Ride with Breakfast, the Old Spanish Trail Horseback Ride with Lunch, and the Wild West Sunset Horseback Ride with Dinner. As always, I love sharing with my readers the joys of the outdoor lifestyle for you wonderful Las Vegas City peeps. If you have a fun story to share about your outdoor excursions, please send me an email to Francesca@HighRiseLifeVegas. com or message me on Facebook.
