D-ZYN CORNER Written by Carol Townsend, A.S.I.D. Interior Designer

Stage This Interior Design Fall in Love with Color! Every season is a great season for showing off your beautiful home. I think this is so very true in our desert, where I live. Now that we are getting past the high 100’s in temperature, we can take a step back, take a breath in, and marvel at the late summer sunrise and sunsets our city has to offer. You might ask how interior design effects your health and well-being. I’m glad you asked. The right Color can change your disposition from grouchy to sunny, angry to sweet, depressed to on top of the world.

16

Color has always been an essential stepping-stone in my evaluations for taking on a new client. I once refurbished a 600-room hotel in Northern California where the line-on-premise manager was a manic depressant. A real ball of joy to work with. I was interviewing the owner of the property and this person, and he kept eyeing me like I was his worst enemy. I had begun the premise of the remodel by identifying a key factor in which they had very few professionals rent from them more than once. The customers I had spoken to repeated a main

www.HighRiseLife.com

theme. The rooms were dark (chocolate brown, orange and black) as the main color scheme and the carpets although professionally cleaned on a monthly basis were brown shag. You can already see where this is going, right? Anyway, when I spoke to the two men at the initial interview they both looked at me and said, “Color! We have color. Orange is on the color wheel as is brown. Harsh reality is that most men in the world think brown, beige, and orange are the only colors on the color wheel. Having been a hands-on designer, since I was seven, I love color. So, what is a healthy color? Believe it or not, it depends on your personality. Remember when I spoke about color choices in a previous article? If you are a cool color person, brown orange and beige would never be in your color palette. Cool blue, cool green, cool lavender, these choices as your 90% color would make you feel like all was right in your world. Adding in the splash of color with accessories adds the zing to the palette. If you are a warm color person you would have your eye on warmer whites, warmer browns, warmer reds…getting my drift here? As a warm color person myself, I add touches of metallic golds and coppers to my décor. I can sit for hours in a room that is based on my colors zone and never turn on a TV. Don’t be fooled by the design magazines. They will tell you that this season’s colors are X, Y, and Z. But look them from a healthy mind perspective. Would you go crazy in September 2019

a room painted in the colors they are suggesting? Would you get a headache after sitting there for an hour? Your mind and body can easily react to the color surrounding you. I had a customer one time who had every wrong color in her house, opposing her natural color balance. She hated inviting anyone over because she hated her house, but she didn’t know why. When we did her color analysis, she changed her whole decorating schematic (it’s only paint people) and she found her joy! You bought your home because you fell in love with the city views. Get excited by having your friends over for a late summer’s eve meal in a dining room that revolves around YOUR season’s color palette. Change is in the air. Capture it with love, food and friends. You will find lots of colorful accessories just around the corner, at any of your favorite shops. Indulge in decorating for the fun of celebrating. So, let’s grab this late summer by the colorful paints, fabrics and accessories offered in our local stores, and let’s get living! POWER TRIO

HUBLOT X WILD CUSTOMS X LAURENT PICCIOTTO

ild Customs. Hublot. Rock, guitars and watches – fused together by Laurent Picciotto. Their joint creation: The Classic Fusion Wild Customs. A watch that uses iconography to tell the story of rock'n'roll, and symbolises the revolution the independent guitar maker is about to unleash on the music world with the Gyrock – an innovative mechanism designed by Laurent Picciotto. In aged titanium or bronze, the Classic Fusion Wild Customs is the very embodiment of chutzpah and innovation. A love affair between watchmaking and music. “Everybody knows Laurent and his passion for exquisite machines – watches, electric guitars, motorbikes... Ardent, original, innovative and surprising, he is a key player in the watchmaking world. Often the first to see the magic in off-the-wall projects, he is unique and different. It was with him that we opened the world's first Hublot boutique at 271, Rue Saint- Honoré 75001, Paris. By coincidence, Wild Customs and Hublot Saint-Honoré, of which he is the owner, both came into being in 2008. So, when we were designing a watch for Hublot Paris Saint-Honoré, we were immediately taken with his idea to create a watch as Wild as his guitars.” - Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of HUBLOT “Hublot and Wild Customs – two adventures I have been following since they began, and that share the same depth of passion and rock'n'roll attitude. Their passions run parallel in many ways: expertise, mechanical brilliance, emotion and fearless innovation, time and time again.” - Laurent Picciotto, Founder of Chronopassion and Boutique Hublot Paris Saint-Honoré, Owner of Wild Customs As the world's first Hublot boutique opened at 271, Rue Saint-Honoré in Paris, the City of Light was awakening to the sound of Wild Customs electric guitars – instruments conceived at the place where the boldest expressions of craftsmanship, jewellery making and industrial design come together. The point of fusion of these two worlds is Laurent Picciotto, a passionate, adventurous collector and lover of fine watches and electric guitars. His pioneering spirit awakened an affinity with Hublot from the moment the Big Bang was conceived, and also propelled him into the Wild Customs adventure, where his goal is to revolutionize the electric guitar industry. Together, they have created the Classic Fusion Wild Customs, a watch that showcases the distinctive design and creative force that drives them. A wild, rock'n'roll spirit that inspires them to innovate ever further by designing brand new materials and revolutionary mechanisms. The Swiss watch brand has obtained several patents for its products: scratch-resistant Magic Gold, colored ceramics and sapphire crystals and its Unico, Meca-10 and Tourbillon manufacture movements. Wild Customs will unveil the Gyrock, its patented mechanism designed to revolutionize the use of pickups on an electric guitar, in Nashville this July. Rock'n'roll, Innovation and the Avant Garde The body of its 45-mm case is cut from blackened bronze or aged titanium in tribute to the "relic" technique employed by luthiers. Engraved on the bezel, stylized skulls – a classic emblem of rock music – alternate with an Art Deco pattern that adorns the watch from case to dial. An homage to the avant-garde spirit and the industrialization of the early twentieth century, inspired by the famous Empire State Building and its magnificent hall. Exuding the energy of rock music, the lightning seconds hand in surf green celebrates the pioneering spirit of the 1950s and 1960s – the golden age of the electric guitar – and its unrivalled creativity. The watch is driven by a self-winding mechanical movement. Featuring a strap in brown vintage leather or black leather stitched onto rubber, the Classic Fusion Wild Customs is available in a limited edition of 2x100 numbered pieces, accompanied by a plectrum in blackened bronze and aged titanium and an exclusive presentation case inspired by the two brands. The Classic Fusion Wild Customs is available exclusively from the Hublot Boutique at 271 Rue Saint-Honoré, 75001 Paris until the end of July, and from other partner boutiques from August. omiar Threads are becoming highly favored in the shoe industry. Handmade and produced with the best fabrics and leather, Somiar delivers quality and offers multiple styles that best fits any occasion. Each shoe is uniquely designed not only to look your best, but to also make sure that you feel your best. “Somiar” means “To Dream” and that’s how it all got started, with a dream and a determination for success. Now, Somiar is known world-wide and can be spotted from those who’ve walked the red carpet such as Mario, DJ Nasty and David Correy.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your background and how you got involved in the shoe industry? Somiar is owned by three founders, and growing up in urban Philadelphia, sneakers and fashion brands were always a “thing.” For our parents purchasing these sneakers was not easy because of the price tag and when we did get them, we had to take care of them and would only get one pair. Once, we were older and able to purchase these sneakers on our own, we splurged on buying sneakers and high-end brands, but quickly noticed that often time we purchased these expensive brands and the quality was flawed and had a quick turnover. With that being said, we decided to start designing our own shoes and boots. The three of us had a similar up-bringing, but different tastes and Somiar embraces that, having such versatile styles.

Q: What’s trending for the Fall season? Somiar boots will be trending for the 2019 Fall season! On a serious note, the Fall Fashion season is calling for all gaudy, high couture Chelsea-style boots, for a dressier look. The traditional Chelsea style is made up of suede and not too intricate of detail, but now people want complex details, like multi-chained and belted looks. As for casual ensembles, we have seen a high demand for hiker and combat styles, with ridged soles and rugged details. We have some things in the works and are looking forward to expanding our colors and patterns this Fall/Winter season.

Q: Can you tell us about your company Somiar Threads?

Q: What are the top 3 popular designs for the season?

“Somiar” means, “to dream” in Catalan, which is a dialect spoken in Spain and our shoes came to life with just a dream, in Spain. Spain is the home of some of the best and longest generation of hand engineers of leather goods, especially shoe cobblers. Because Spain has the finest leather treatment in the world, it was what we valued most, the quality in their work and their leather. We visited the family business, as it was important to us that our shoes were not being manufactured in a “sweatshop.” Once we met them, their 20-year, family-owned history of cobblers, and the way they welcomed us, it became the beginning of an amazing partnership.

For us, The Legend and The Valdez are a crowd favorite. We restock and they go quickly. The Winged Valdez also has been popular with our celebrity clients, so we barely have them on-hand. We love getting feedback and ideas from our client base or as we call them, our Somiar Family, and want to deliver. They are constantly demanding The Legend and The Valdez and have even requested them in different colors.

Q: What makes Somiar Threads unique? Somiar is unique in many ways. First, we are not just a mass-producing, high-cost shoe brand, with annual markup. We are a family-owned, family-driven company. Secondly, we create shoes for quality. We understand that the average person works hard for their money and deserves style and quality. Most shoes are just glued on and their resistance to movement, like walking, is minimal and faulty, causing the soles to wear or detach and you find yourself purchasing another pair of shoes. Somiar is composed of the finest leather and Blake-stitched, stacked outer soles with rubber taps that allows you to re-sole your shoe, making them timeless, yet providing traction and safety. Furthermore, because of the quality of the leather, they shape to the owner. Everything from crafting and inspecting the shoes to packaging and shipping the shoes has a personal touch and we pride ourselves on that. Q: What do you enjoy most about what you do? Knowing three men from Philadelphia can partake in something so big, like the fashion industry, keeps us going, but staying with the fashion trends and designs is fun and really drives us. There are so many styles for fashion, especially now for men, so the three of us having different tastes, are attracted to different things. The creation of these styles allows us to fuse and blend our ideas to handcraft and produce unique looks. Also, our travels to Spain to see our handcrafters is meaningful and motivating. September 2019

Q: What are some of Somiar Threads greatest accomplishments? One of our greatest accomplishments has been to work with so many celebrities. Especially, celebrities that we listened to on the radio when we were younger, that we would’ve never thought we’d meet, let alone wear something that we created. We still get excited to work with new celebs and see how they style our shoes. Our greatest accomplishment of them all is coming from what we knew to being heard and having the opportunity to compete with brands that have been around for decades. We compare to compete, and we are honored to do so. Q: Any helpful tips on shoe care that you can share with us? Our top tips for any shoes are the use of shoehorns and shoe trees. Shoehorns help with preserving the back of your shoe and easily placing them on your foot without too much impact to your foot or the shoe itself. Also, shoe trees are not just for shaping shoes, cedar shoe trees help to keep the interior of your shoe fresh and free of sweat. Therefore, shoe trees restore shape, scent, and preserve the longevity of your boots and shoes. Our shoes collection come with shoe care tips, shoehorns and shoe trees, as we want you to truly care and maintain your shoes. Q: Anything exciting launching soon or that you would like to share with us? Yes, we have a lot of new, never seen styles and are excited to release them. So sign-up, reach out and stay tuned.

Lending Solutions from Your Expert High-Rise Lender Written by Selcen Kavruklar Editor-in-chief

The Parent Team is thrilled to have been acquired by CrossCountry Mortgage. Under Derek Parents leadership the latest acquisition has allowed The Parent Team to expand their mortgage products and programs nationwide. CrossCountry Mortgage is proud and honored to be included on the prestigious Inc. 5000 List. as a trusted resource for both their customers and referral partners. In our interview, Parent discusses everything from lending solutions, tips in purchasing and financing a home in 2019, getting approved for high-rise condominium, to why refinancing may be good option. Here is what the expert lender had to say.

“

“

DEREK PARENT

www.HighRiseLife.com

Q: What do you love most about the lending process? This may sound cliché, but I honestly LOVE what I do. I am incredibly passionate about being a lender. Every day, I get to be a part of a huge milestone moment in people’s lives by making it possible for them to achieve the American dream of home ownership where they’ll create long lasting memories for years to come. I also really enjoy being innovative, taking on challenges and thinking outside of the box. Whether I’m working with a client who gets turned down the first time or filling an industry need like we did by bringing conventional financing for high-rises to the Las Vegas strip. Q: What are some lending solutions you offer at CrossCountry Mortgage? We pride ourselves on our niche products that meet the changing needs of today’s homebuyer. Of course, our expertise in condo financing will continue to set us apart from any lender in Las Vegas, but many of our clients today are choosing to create their dream homes exactly how they want them, so renovation and construction loans are increasingly in demand. We have a dedicated renovation department and our renovation loan programs include FHA 203(k) Limited, FHA 203(k) Standard, Fannie Mae Homestyle and VA renovation, each offering low down payment options and low out-of-pocket costs. On the construction side, we offer One Time Close (OTC) Conventional Construction to Permanent Financing for both the lot purchase and the home build itself. We offer a variety of terms that allow for the payment of interest only during construction, and we handle the entire process in-house to make everything less complicated for the customer. And because homebuyers prefer to close as quickly as possible, we offer our FastTrack Credit Approval program. Our customers appreciate the competitive edge we give them to buy the home they want before someone else does. With FastTrack, they are conditionally approved for a loan before they see their first house, underwriting is complete before they pick a house, and we clear all credit conditions before they sign a purchase agreement. It all results in getting them to the closing table in as few as 10 days after they sign the agreement. Who does that? We do. Q: Do you think it is a good time to refinance with current interest rates? Right now, is a GREAT time to refinance with rates being low. Refinancing is a great way to save money, consolidate debt as well as make upgrades to your home to increase value. Q: How do your services differentiate from other lenders? Hands down, our knowledge and expertise wins every time. We specialize in fall out deals because so many realtors and buyers turn to us when other companies are unable to figure out how to get a loan done. If you’re a buyer or realtor, save yourself the time, energy and money from the start and come to us first! Also, lending has been my passion for 20 years and I’m committed to helping anyone who wants to become an owner achieve that goal. Our loans range between $70,000-$3 million. Many lenders won’t even touch a loan under $150,000. My team and I are here to make home ownership possible for everyone. Q: As an expert high-rise lender, what are some key things buyers should consider when shopping for a loan in today’s market? Specifically, with high-rise and mid-rise condos, I have over 175 condo projects approved for financing and the list grows every day. Other lenders in town will charge buyers for a condo questionnaire to get financing on the project approved which ranges between $300-$500. My clients will never pay for a condo questionnaire as I cover this fee every single time and it’s likely September 2019

already on my list. The danger with other lenders charging buyers for this is if a project is not financeable, the buyer loses out on that $300-$500 in addition to all other fees incurred for the transaction. Q: Can you tell us a little bit about your Affinity Benefits Program and the value it brings to companies and their employees? Recruiting and retaining top talent is critical in today’s workforce and our Affinity Benefits Program is a partnership we created with businesses to offer all their employees a $2,198 home ownership benefit at NO COST to the company or employee. With unemployment at an all-time low, it’s essential for companies to provide added value and create a positive work environment. This program was designed to help companies boost their corporate culture and build loyalty by giving back to their employees for FREE. Additionally, we can qualify buyers with a job offer or transfer letter 60 days before they start day one on the job. It’s a phenomenal tool I look forward to supporting our business community with. Q: As a busy business professional and high-rise resident, what attracted you to buy a condominium? Well, it’s funny because as a young kid living in Rhode Island, I watched many boxing matches taking place on the Las Vegas strip. To now own a piece of the Las Vegas strip is a wild dream I never could have imagined! I literally live on Las Vegas Blvd. That’s crazy! At the end of the day, the lifestyle is the ultimate selling point. My building is extremely secure so it’s safe, I have the luxury of walking downstairs and dining at any 5-star restaurant of any kind of cuisine I wish, and the convenience factor can’t be beat. Q: Any exciting news you would like to share with us? I’m extremely focused and committed to supporting the rapid growth and giving back to our great city through home ownership so I’ve recently joined the Las Vegas HEALS Board of Directors to help elevate healthcare in southern Nevada as well as the President’s Club of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce. Lastly, I’m excited to serve on the Leadership Committee for the 2020 Scale the Strat where we’ll fight for air climb all the way up the Stratosphere tower! Please join us February 23rd! It’s a blast!

REAL ESTATE | MARKET TRENDS

Luxury Home Prices Up 1% Amid Falling Sales and Surging Supply The average sale price for luxury homes nationwide increased 1 percent year over year to $1.64 million in the second quarter of 2019, according to a new report from Redfin, the technology-powered real estate brokerage. This marks a modest return to the trend of rising luxury home prices, which was interrupted by a 1.7 percent decline in the first quarter of this year.

luxury inventory and the biggest increase in two years. Supply of homes priced under $1.5 million increased just 2.1 percent annually.

For this analysis, Redfin tracked home sales in more than 1,000 cities across the U.S. (not including New York City) and defined a home as luxury if it's among the 5 percent most expensive homes sold in the quarter. In the other 95 percent of the market, home prices increased 3.2 percent year over year to an average of $322,000 in the first quarter, a continuation of seven straight years of increases.

"Luxury home sales have been relatively soft since early 2018 when the tax code overhaul made it so that people with big mortgages and those living in high-tax states and counties couldn't deduct as much from their annual tax bill," said Redfin chief economist Daryl Fairweather. "But wealthy Americans who would otherwise be considering a multi-million-dollar home purchase may now be a bit spooked that the economic expansion they've been enjoying for the past decade could soon be nearing its end."

Sales of homes priced at or above $1.5 million declined 4.6 percent year over year last quarter. That's the third consecutive quarter of dropping sales in the category, though the decline was much smaller than the 13.8 percent dip last quarter. Sales of homes priced under $1.5 million dropped 6.7 percent year over year. Supply of homes priced at or above $1.5 million increased 18.7 percent in the second quarter, the fifth straight quarter of rising

36

The minor gain in prices, along with dipping sales and a significant increase in supply, suggests that demand for luxury homes is tepid, especially compared to the past few years.

"Business owners and people with large investments are paying close attention to the escalating trade war and other uncertainties in global markets," Fairweather explained. "Despite the fact that the economy at home is continuing to grow, these and other signs that a recession could be looming are likely causing well-heeled homebuyers to feel extra cautious about www.HighRiseLife.com

a big purchase or investment. The Fed's rate cut is unlikely to have a big impact on the course of the economy and especially on the luxury housing market, where buyers are the least rate sensitive. As a result, I expect to see continued caution in the high-end market as the future of the economy becomes clearer to those whose wealth is most closely tied to it." Luxury homes are selling slightly faster than they were last year. The typical luxury home that sold in the second quarter went under contract in 68 days, down slightly from 71 days a year before. That's the fastest luxury homes have sold in at least a decade. The typical non-luxury home that sold during the same time period went under contract seven days faster than a year earlier, in 56 days. Just 1.3 percent of homes priced in the top 5 percent sold above list price in the second quarter, down from 1.6 percent a year earlier. That's a much smaller share of homes sold above list price than the other 95 percent of homes; among those, 23.4 percent sold above list price in the second quarter.

Biggest price gains Two Las Vegas suburbs are among the cities with the biggest increases in luxury home prices in the second quarter. In Paradise, Nevada, where home prices in the top 5 percent of homes increased 46.8 percent year over year, more than any other city, the average luxury home sold for $1,079,000. In Henderson, Nevada, seventh on this quarter's list, the average luxury home sold for $1,223,000, up 16.4 percent from the year before. September 2019

Cities in Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, St. Petersburg and Tampa, also experienced some of the biggest increases in luxury home prices. Though it's typical for Florida cities to be among the regions with the biggest increases in the category, this is the first time since the third quarter of 2017 a Florida city hasn't topped the list.

Biggest price declines Seattle, Washington, D.C., Honolulu and San Jose—some of the most expensive real estate markets in the U.S.—are among the cities where luxury home prices have dropped the most. In Seattle, home prices for the top 5 percent of the market declined 14.4 percent to roughly $2.2 million in the second quarter, and in San Jose prices in the same category dipped 8.2 percent to $2.37 million. "Part of the reason prices for luxury homes in Seattle are dropping this year is because it experienced a bigger market boom in all price ranges (especially the high-end market) in the last six years than most other cities, with Amazon and other tech firms bringing folks into the area quickly with high salaries. A bigger rise tends to lead to a bigger fall, and luxury is usually one of the first markets to feel the crunch," said local Redfin agent Tamar Baber. "Now that the market has cooled down a bit, high-end buyers are scrutinizing their home purchases very carefully. Some of them feel the country could be headed toward a recession and aren't willing to spend $2 million, $3 million or $4 million on a home right now unless it meets their exact specifications. Luxury sellers are slowly adjusting their pricing accordingly." For more information, please visit www.redfin.com.

The Superstar Paradox: 5 Reasons Overachievers Miss the Mark How overachievers can stop sabotaging their own success—or level of satisfaction after attaining superstar status Written by Merilee Kern, MBA

I

n today’s fast-paced business climate where nothing is certain but rapid-fire change, masses in business and work life have surrendered themselves to “overachievement” in pursuit of career success. Not just ordinary success, but rather the kind that exceeds expectations courtesy of excessive “above and beyond” effort put forth. Some relent to a life of overachievement willingly and enthusiastically as they yearn to earn, while others grievously succumb to a multitude of pressures (both external and self-inflicted) and work themselves to extremes in order to achieve and maintain an enviable stature and lifestyle overall. While overachievement certainly has it’s tremendous share of virtues, having induced profound innovation, breakthroughs, productivity and abundance for individuals, organizations, industries and economies at large, there’s oft a dark side to this extreme approach to advancement. For some, yes, dreams come true, but throngs of others miss the mark despite best efforts. “This often happens because they’re aiming for achievements instead of at a deeper understanding of themselves and of what they want,” asserts Keren Eldad, a certified business coach and keynote speaker—trusted advisor to industry-leading executives, acclaimed entrepreneurs and premier organizations like Beyond Capital, Luxxotica, Van Cleef & Arpels, YPO, LVMH and IWC. “It’s a silent story shared by many who present a happy, accomplished and enviable image: one of putting on pretenses and internally writhing with angst and anxiety, of never having enough, of insecurity, doubt and dissatisfaction—a state I have coined the ‘Superstar Paradox,’” Eldad says. “The paradox is when pursuing the illusory things we think we want actually produces undesirable results like strain to keep up low self-worth and general unhappiness—and those consequences actually impede our ability to attain what we want. It can become an exhausting and hugely debilitating vicious circle.” According to Eldad, the Superstar Paradox is a tough condition to solve because there’s one major, difficult hurdle to get past: admitting there’s a problem. “This requires relinquishing our main armor: that we know everything; that we have things ‘figured out,’” she says. “The key lies in accepting that ‘we don’t know what we don’t know’ and developing the courage and means to swap illusory happiness for a bona fide pursuit of wisdom that can bring true fulfillment, power and possibility.” That’s easier said than done, of course, and as daunting and even enigmatic as it might seem, taking that proactive first step is critical. So, in the spirit of “starting somewhere,” Eldad offers the five foundational insights below to help ensure some of your overachievement behaviors or mindsets won’t actually be undermining your success—or your level of life satisfaction even after you’ve actually realized superstar status. September 2019

● Reframe your success story. Overachievers often believe that success only comes from power, money or status. Yes, those things are important benchmarks for career measurement, but being successful in life overall should be the true Holy Grail. So, if you are a C-suite executive, or aspire to be, but are riddled with anxiety, stress, pain and dissatisfaction–with relationships suffering in that wake–it’s evident that money and status isn’t proving as worthwhile as it can and should be. To initiate needed change, be brave enough to reframe your personal story, from cover to cover. Life isn’t meant to be one-dimensional or even work-centered, so actually sit down and map out what you would hope for each facet of your life to look like if it were a true success. Sure, start with career goals to get the juices flowing, as that might come most easily, but then do separate exercises for as many other areas of your life that you can break down. This can include marriage, children, extended family, friendships, professional networks, social media/networking, investments, travel, physical fitness, self-care/beauty, fashion and style, transportation, entertainment, hobbies and passions and so on. Life is abundant. You’ll soon see that life fulfillment means—and needs—so much more than what happens on the work front. It can be a means to an end, but there’s much in between. Once you start mapping it all out, you might come to the realization that you’ve been missing out on quite a lot in your quest for career glory. Reframe your success story with a more holistic approach—know what success “looks” like for each facet of your one and only life and commit (for real) to get there on all fronts. ● Classify and conquer your “fatal flaw.” One definition of a “fatal flaw” is that which causes an otherwise noble or exceptional individual to bring about their own downfall, which can be their own death—whether figuratively or literally. The idea that any particular fatal flaw is holding us back is a primary reason why so many overachievers become hooked on their actualized achievements and come to rely on fake confidence and aggrandizement versus operating from a place of vulnerability and authenticity. This in an effort to hide or cover up that flaw, whether consciously or unconsciously. Sometimes the phrase “character flaw” is synonymous, with this notion revealing a bit more that the flaw is about the person, themselves, and not really his or her circumstance. One report cites that, “Heroes have a fatal flaw which they wrestle with on a consistent basis. This may open them up for specific conflicts later,” again underscoring that this most sinister kind of flaw can not only hurt you now, but also well into the future. So, to achieve true superstar status fostering genuine, lasting happiness, it’s imperative to discern if you have a fatal flaw and, once identified, work wholeheartedly to resolve it—or learn how to effectively function at a high-level amid it (if that’s even possible). One piece of published research identified

41

“Ten Fatal Flaws That Derail Leaders” that included things like "don’t collaborate," "resist new ideas," and "accept their own mediocre performance" with one particularly eye-opening point of note: that the flaws identified “sound like obvious flaws that any leader would try to fix. But the ineffective leaders we studied were often unaware that they exhibited these behaviors. In fact, those who were rated most negatively rated themselves substantially more positively. Leaders should take a very hard look at themselves and ask for candid feedback on performance in these specific areas. Their jobs may depend on it.” ● Course-correct crippling self-constructs. A common obstacle to a "superstar" realizing genuine happiness is their own reliance on self-esteem, which is different from self-acceptance. Self-esteem is defined as “a positive or negative orientation toward oneself; an overall evaluation of one's worth or value” and, for overachievers, depends on external conditions being met (i.e., what they are achieving) and how they then "rank" against the others in their society. Self-acceptance, which is a critical factor in genuine happiness and authenticity, is founded on other key self-constructs like self-compassion—a person’s ability to forgive them self for essentially being human and, thus, imperfect. Overachievers and aptly accomplished superstars are susceptible to being heavily dependent upon the opinions of others, their corresponding status and their perceived stature versus understanding, and primarily relying on, self-acceptance. In many cases, this feeling of unworthiness is what coaches like me consider to be fatal flaws for the overachiever. It’s that “something” about themselves they feel makes them “less than.” That which they feel if others knew in full, it would cause those others to disrespect or outright reject them. Resolution here can be found when an overachiever consciously fights back against the urge and instinct to beat themselves up for not being exactly "done" or for other self-assessed shortcomings, and replace those notions with ideation promoting high self-esteem characteristics. According to reports, this can include “being open to criticism, acknowledging mistakes and being comfortable with giving and receiving compliments,” while also knowing what your values are and living life accordingly. Some or all of which may sound easy but given these insecurities have forged a well-honed path in an overachiever’s mind over time, it’ll take deliberate and sustained effort to course correct. But, once the mind starts to habitually recognize internal dialogue promoting low self-worth, combating it will become perfunctory. Truly happy superstars are steadfast with the practice of being kind to themselves; unequivocal in their belief that self-criticism is self-defeating. Statistics seem to confirm Eldad’s contention across departments, including entrepreneur mental health issues; divorce, suicide and anxiety rates; escalating workplace stress and dissatisfaction, anti-depressant use, narcissism disorder data in relation to anxiety and panic disorders ... the ominous list goes on. “It’s time to stop living life for achievements, money, accolades and the validation of other people,” Eldad urges. “It is my hope that those locked in patterns causing anxiety and misery–and a life devoid of meaning, purpose, self-love and happy relationships–seek and find a trusted way to question themselves and find out who

42

they really are and what their authentic path is, leading to genuine answers and clarity. First, you must admit and even embrace the notion that ‘you don’t know what you don’t know,’ which is to say that you have a few things left to learn, and then actively aspire to attain that knowledge and wisdom. In doing so, you may actualize profound happiness—the truest measure of success.”

"We're proud of our legacy in the culinary arena, cultivated over more than 30 years by a team intent on producing fresh, delicious and memorable cuisine equal to the finest restaurants anywhere," said Gerald Mosslinger, vice president of Hotel Operations for Seabourn. "These eight dining experiences and the venues themselves – have been designed with expeditions in mind, with inspired details that keep bringing the luxury expedition experience to life, and where guests can unwind to share memories of the day over a wonderfully prepared meal, glass of wine or perfectly crafted cocktail."

50

As with any Seabourn ship, all dining experiences are complimentary, and guests can dine when, where and with whom they choose. Premium spirits, fine wines and other beverages are complimentary everywhere on board, with several special selections also available for an additional charge. Starting with the first voyages in 2021, expedition travelers will find an appealing array of tempting dining experiences including: The Restaurant: Fine dining in an elegant, open-seating dining room for breakfast, lunch and dinner The Colonnade: A more casual alternative for buffet or table service breakfast and lunch, and themed dinner served tableside, including family-style menus by Michelin-starred Chef Thomas Keller. The Patio: Casual, alfresco dining for lunch, weather permitting Sushi in The Club: A variety of sushi bites are freshly made to order here every evening. Seabourn Square: A sociable oasis serving delectable specialty coffees, pastries, sandwiches and homemade gelati throughout the day and into the evening

Pantry in the Bow Lounge: Help yourself to freshly prepared light fare and refreshments as you scan the horizon Constellation Lounge: A nod to the heritage of Seabourn, the Constellation Lounge is the spot for early-riser’s pastries and beverages, elegant afternoon Teatime and cocktail-time tapas 24-Hour In-Suite Dining: Choose from a varied menu anytime or have dinner from The Restaurant menu served course-by-course in your suite or on your veranda. A fixture across the entire Seabourn fleet, The Restaurant offers a stunning, elegant setting to enjoy an impeccably prepared meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. The work of design icon Adam D. Tihany, The Restaurant is a masterfully curated space anchoring food and beverage service on Seabourn Venture and her soon-to-be-named sister ship. Located on Deck 4, The Restaurant is a stunning setting serving perfectly plated dishes that rival the finest restaurants in any city or hotel, to be enjoyed in classic open seating, where guests dine when, where and with whom they wish. The venue also offers an expansive wine selection, with Old World and New World labels that includes a number of fine complimentary choices. Guests can also browse the extensive list of premium wines available for an additional charge to please the most sophisticated palates. Tihany has kept natural elements at the forefront of his work for the expedition ships, and The Restaurant features design inspired

by the abstract, geometric nature of snowflakes, merging bold lines and shapes with a softness reminiscent of falling snow. Leather wall paneling with visible stitching brings a unique three-dimensional diamond arrangement to the space, while blue and green carpeting with geometric patterns surrounds a central porcelain floor that recalls the natural sediment of a geode. Overhead abstract diamond lighting fixtures of ribbed glass and metal details are inspired by the symmetry and complexity of snowflakes, and bronze mirror details add a touch of sparkle throughout the space. Seating in The Restaurant is similarly noteworthy, with dining chairs fashioned by the product arm of Tihany Design. Designed for comfort, the chairs beckon with rich burgundy leather against a textured fabric seat back, with exposed rivet details and wood frame echoing the tactile craftsmanship found elsewhere throughout each expedition ship. As a crowning touch, the dining space is elevated by a sophisticated wine display encased in bronze framed glass. Seabourn continues to represent the pinnacle of ultra-luxury travel with intimate ships offering key elements that set the line apart: spacious, thoughtfully appointed suites, many with verandas and all 100% ocean front; superb dining in a choice of venues; complimentary premium spirits and fine wines available on board at all times; award-winning service and a relaxed, sociable atmosphere that makes guests feel right at home on board. The ships travel the globe to many of the world's most desirable destinations, including marquee cities, more than 170 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and lesser-known ports and hideaways. Epicurean Moments & Local Wellness Safran fuses ingredients and techniques from across the continents, serving inimitable mezze dishes, bursting with local and seasonal flavors at the heart of its menu. The contemporary pan-Asian kitchen, Hemera, dedicated to the region's best seafood, is a showcase of gastronomic flair. Both restaurants use regional produce to enhance every dish, from seasoning with herbs grown on-site to the inclusion of mastic gum, indigenous to Çeşme.

he Luxury Collection, part of Marriott International Inc., today announced the opening of Reges, a Luxury Collection Resort & Spa, Çeşme. Owned by Reges Turizm Inşaat A.Ş., Reges joins an impressive collection of more than 110 hotels and resorts in more than 30 countries and territories. The opening marks The Luxury Collection's third hotel in Turkey, joining the brand's existing properties in Bodrum and Ankara. Having set the tone for a regal experience from its conception, Reges derives its name from the Latin for King: Rex. The two buildings that comprise the resort even resemble a crown when viewed from above. Curved around an idyllic natural cove and bathed in sunshine for more than 300 days of the year, Reges is spread across two kilometers of Çeşme's Boyalık Bay. The 93 guestrooms and 11 suites feature oversized floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the sapphire-hued Aegean Sea. Inspired by the surrounding lush nature, the guestroom design features gold-dipped leaves, peacock feathers and jacquard patterning, with splashes of turquoise energizing the neutral color palette. Crafted from locally sourced marble, the sleek in-suite bathrooms combine traditional elements of fretwork and gold fixtures, with modern indulgences such as rainfall showers and signature Byredo products. State-of-the-art technology has been integrated discreetly, from ultra-modern flat-screen TVs to intuitive systems which personalize temperature and lightingpreferences – reinforcing the hotel's commitment to an unmatched level of service.

Additionally, the resort offers unique, immersive experiences for guests to discover the rich culinary history of Çeşme through its series of Epicurean Moments. Well known as a wine-making region, the Çeşme peninsula is perfect for gourmet adventures. To inspire guests to sample local delicacies, the resort regularly hosts a series of wine and cheese pairings, grape harvesting experiences and olive oil tastings, each meticulously designed as a celebration of the diverse flavors of the region. Additional cultural experiences, from curated tours of Çeşme Castle and the Alacati Windmills to a tour of nearby Ephesus, have been designed by the Concierge team to showcase the most extraordinary facets of Çeşme and beyond. Spa Reges spans over 1,400 square meters and takes an indulgent-yet-authentic approach to healing. A menu of signature treatments has been developed through extensive research into regional rituals and wellbeing. The spa's six treatment rooms are further complemented by a traditional Turkish Hammam, sauna and steam room. Airy cabanas, with indoor and outside spaces, are artfully placed around two turquoise swimming pools and an idyllic private beach. For those looking to stay active, there is a 24/7 fitness suite with cutting-edge Technogym equipment. Or take the action outdoor for wind and kite surfing, activities that Çeşme is a favored destination for thanks to its shallow waters and strong breezes. The resort offers unrivalled access to world-class training, as well as the annual PWA windsurf tournament. Unforgettable Meetings and Events A combination of personalized service, expert knowledge and an extraordinary setting places Reges at the forefront for creative gatherings and lifetime celebrations in Turkey. Ultra-modern facilities include four dedicated meeting rooms, dressed in a neutral palette and kitted out with state-of-the-art technology, offering a curated scene for boutique meetings and break-out sessions. Catering for over 300 people, the resort's impressive outdoor spaces offer myriad opportunities for memorable and romantic moments, creating the perfect backdrop for spectacular, al fresco wedding parties. For more information or to book, visit RegesCesme.com.

Influenced by the dancing lines of a Whirling Dervish, the tiered design of the resort's architecture fans out like a spinning skirt, reinterpreting the ancient Sufi ritual for a contemporary audience. This thoughtful approach extends to the light-filled lobby, where the ancient Japanese practice of Kintsugi – the art of appreciating imperfection – is recrafted through modern Turkish design, with gilded embellishments adding depth and story. "Çeşme is a breath-taking Turkish resort town that overlooks the glistening Aegean Sea, and its natural beauty and offerings, including clear waters with unparalleled diving sites make this a truly special location for The Luxury Collection's third hotel in Turkey," said Anthony Ingham, Global Brand Leader, The Luxury Collection. "We are thrilled to uncover this hidden treasure for our global travelers who are sure to develop a deep connection with this remarkable destination."

he Frist Art Museum presents Hearts of Our People: Native Women Artists, the first major museum exhibition exclusively devoted to Native women artists from all over the United States and Canada, ranging across time and media. Organized by the Minneapolis Institute of Art (Mia) and developed in close cooperation with leading Native artists and historians, the groundbreaking exhibition offers multiple perspectives to enhance understanding of Native art practices. Hearts of Our People will be on display in the Ingram Gallery from September 27, 2019, through January 12, 2020.

domestic needs of their communities, but also goes beyond the longstanding convention of treating these artworks as unattributed representations of entire cultures. The contemporary works on view highlight the intentionality of the individual artist and demonstrate how artists have been influenced by the preceding generations.

Women have long been the creative force behind Native art; however, their cultural contributions have been overlooked historically. Hearts of Our People not only helps visitors understand the traditional role of Native women artists in serving the cultural, economic, diplomatic, and

The exhibition is organized by Jill Ahlberg Yohe, PhD, associate curator of Native American Art at Mia, and Teri Greeves, an independent curator and artist and member of the Kiowa Nation. During each step of the curatorial process, the curators worked closely with an all-women Exhibition Advisory

Approximately 115 objects made from ancient times to the present day are featured, including traditional textiles, baskets, beadwork, and pottery, as well as painting, photography, sculpture, video, and installation art. The works are drawn from Mia's permanent collection and loans from more than 30 institutions and private collections.

Board, which they established to provide knowledge and insights from a wide range of nations. The panel comprises 21 Native and non-Native scholars from across North America, as well as Native artists, some of whose work is included in the exhibition and accompanying catalogue. The panel worked collaboratively to develop the major themes of the exhibition and advise on the objects selected, as well as to determine the structure and content of the catalogue, programming, and community engagement activities. The exhibition planning process began with a question: Why do Native women make art? The curatorial team responded by organizing the exhibition into three core themes: Legacy, Relationships, and Power. In Legacy, visitors will see ways in which Native women artists acknowledge their lineage while simultaneously addressing the present moment and speaking to the future. For example, Rose Simpson (b. 1983) customized her 1985 El Camino to evoke www.HighRiseLife.com

the blackware style of Pueblo pottery made famous decades ago by Maria Martinez (1887–1980), paying homage to a traditional design, while also transforming the vehicle into an empowering and modern identity statement. The second section, Relationships, presents examples of how bonds exist within the human community and beyond to include animals, the weather, the earth, and other entities the Western world does not typically recognize as having volition and agency. Métis artist Christi Belcourt (b. 1966) hopes that paintings like Wisdom of the Universe will remind viewers of the interconnected nature of existence on

this planet. The highly detailed depictions of an array of vegetation inhabited by small insects and birds (all of which are on Canadian endangered lists) evoke First Nations beadwork art. Belcourt encourages us to abandon unsustainable paths in favor of an abiding relationship with the earth. The third section of the exhibition, Power, includes works created for diplomatic purposes and to express the power of older women within a community. The mask made by Haida artist Freda Diesing suggests the woman's status through the abalone shell adornment and her lip piercing, or labret. The hand-carved work also reveals the power of women as artists. While anthropologists

and art historians have historically identified Haida carving as a male activity, Diesing defied these assumptions and brought a greater awareness to the fact that women have long created carvings in the Northwest. "Throughout the exhibition, visitors will see similarities across cultures and communities, but they will also notice many differences," says Frist Art Museum Curator Katie Delmez. "Native Americans are not a monolithic group, and each tribe, nation, or community has its own unique culture, history, and present. Perhaps most important, each Native artist, like artists the world over, brings her own life experience, skill, and individual style to her art."
