D-ZYN CORNER Form, Function, Design Written by Carol Townsend A.S.I.D. Interior Designer

Every season is a great season for showing off your beautiful home. Family and friends will gather in your beautiful kitchen, eat at that spectacular dining room table that you bought, specifically for this spot. Formulating what you want that floating kitchen to look like from all angles, is a key element to form and function. Take for instance that beautiful waterfall granite countertop on the full functioning island. A beautifully designed piece that can be taken up a notch by adding open shelving, where a crystal decanter and glasses can add a stunning accent.

12

HIGHRISELIFE.COM

The dining room table is sometimes too big, or sometimes too small. Take a tip from restaurants, you can design a smaller table for when it is just the two of you‌then add additional tables units that expand the dining space to accommodate a crowd. We can look at the contemporary tables that are out there, some are Danish designs where the table goes from a 7-foot version, then with the click of the remote, leaves extend it out to 8 and 10 feet. There are prime examples of these in design magazines. Look at enticing elements that can complement that gorgeous view out your windows. A combination

StageThis Interior Design of walnut and stainless steel, glass and rose gold stainless, marble and glass…the creativity levels are endless. I have a customer that I am working with right now, who contacted me to do a dry bar in her living room area. She saw the beautiful wall of stone I worked with at holiday time, and wanted something that would make a great statement. She has very contemporary artwork, with specific colors. We found a wonderful slab that will handsomely work with her pieces. We had electric drawn so she can have a dynamic chandelier drop down and light up her wall of stone. We will utilize the left over cut for her dining room table top. We will leave the edges of the stone, cut but polished, and continue the drama to the other side of the room. A challenge came up with extra guest space, which she occasionally needs when she entertains late

into the night. A fabulous contemporary cabinet, under her big screen T.V. folds out to a sleeper when needed, but looks fabulous when company sits to enjoy movies. Invite your family to celebrate the purchase of your home. Decorate with sunny, bright colors, and bring the electric blue of our desert sky into your home with artwork and accessories. You bought your home because you fell in love with the city views. Get excited by having your friends over for a late summer’s eve meal. Capture it with love, food, and friends. You will find lots of colorful accessories just around the corner, at any of your favorite shops. So, let’s grab this late summer by the colorful accessories offered in our local stores, and let’s get inspired by design.

What is hot on the market today? “It's the contemporary trends, it's white floor with grey theme, very clean and slick lines, and lots of glass. White glossy cabinets, chrome, and big floor tiles. Also, very glam, chic, bold reds, blacks, and dark tones are very fashionable today. A lot of new contemporary design will start getting old in 3-4 years with wear and tear so we prefer to stay more with glam chic.”

It never goes out of style, it's timeless.

After being so long in the business, what is the most interesting request you had from your clients? We had a really extreme and wealthy client that had a penthouse in the Sierra Towers in Beverly Hills. His rooftop deck was about 2,500 sq ft. We had to hire a helicopter to fly in a very unique, customized hot tub. To get all kinds of permission and HOA compliance was a very difficult task, but we made it happen.

The DNA of Scorsetti Design is glamour and chic. “It's the woods, it's the glass, it's the mirrors, it's the wallpapers,” said Angeles during our interview. Her travels become the source of Scorsetti's glamorous, chic, and timeless modèle.

What advice can you give our readers when they are looking for the right design company? “First thing would be chemistry and excellent communication.” President of Scorsetti Design LLC. Steve Mason explains, “It's important to have client's involvement in the hands-on process of presentation, the renderings, and follow-up calls. It's all in the sociology of being with another human and clearly understanding their needs and requests. Clients have an opportunity to develop inspirations and ideas at our studio.”

For Scorsetti and her husband Steve Mason, their personal residence is one of their favorite projects completed. “We started with a grey shell—which was our white canvas and added our glamour and chic style. There is a timeless element to the design, twenty years later you can walk into our Mandarin Oriental penthouse and it would still look amazing. We had neither design nor budget limits. We took that white canvas and made it spectacular and beautiful, with a touch of elegance.” Noted Steve Mason.

In the world of Michael Amini, CEO and Founder of Amini Innovation Corporation [AICO], furniture takes on a whole new meaning. His passion for design has built him a furniture empire that surpasses expectations. Amini, who had started off his career as an engineer quickly realized at a young age that it was not fit for him. But as for furniture he noted, “I can design furniture and I can sell it.” 29 years later, AICO with its Pico Rivera headquarters has set an industry standard in furniture with the highest level of quality and workmanship with products marketed in over 85 countries. His passion for furniture can be seen in his intricately designed one-of-a-kind pieces inspired by his love of world travel, fashion, and architecture. His collection features glamourous upholstered head boards, elegantly carved wood pieces with hidden compartments, Swarovski crystal details, unique lighting, and velvet-lined drawers. His design collaborations over the years with multiple Emmy and Golden Globe Winner Actress Jane Saymour, has added a Hollywood dose of glamour to his collection. His work with

Amini, who has a keen eye for perfection and detail noted, “There is a constant movement of furniture being loaded, assembled, and I just love being a part of the action.” During this time of the year, Amini visits his home in Las Vegas as he displays his latest collection at the Las Vegas Market; one of the most comprehensive furniture and home décor market in the United States.

Michael Amini’s Penthouse, Sky Las Vegas

Setting afoot inside Amini’s Las Vegas penthouse, you can see his grandeur taste and artistic vision come to life. It has many of the elements found in a sophisticated Parisian abode: murals delicately painted on the ceilings, a grand salon with French blue velvet and intricate gold accents, imported stones and mosaic flooring, crystal chandeliers, grand drapes, opulent crown molding, and beautifully designed cabinetry adorn the space. But it also contains touches and whimsical vignettes that reflect Amini and his travels around the world. From little loved objets trouvés to his majestic custom carved pieces of furniture, with his initials carefully engraved symbolic of his furniture empire. Suitably— elegance rules in the world of Amini’s design philosophy. Perhaps the most spectacular thing about this Parisian themed abode is its prime location. Located at Sky Las Vegas, with its commanding views of the famous Las Vegas Boulevard. A quietly luxurious 3,000 square-foot space full of

modern comforts of a luxury high-rise penthouse, but in a quintessential French style. Amini, who is known for hosting lavish engagements, has made his residence an elegant address to entertain his guests. While successfully designing a gorgeously glamorous, and fittingly luxurious penthouse space is second nature for someone like Amini. His most recent acquisitions take his AICO brand in an exciting new direction with his joint agreement with American model and actress Kathy Ireland earlier this year, to create a new home furnishing line called Michael Amini and Kathy Ireland Home Collection. Amini, who had been considering adding a new style category to the AICO product portfolio that would address a younger broader audience, felt Ireland’s eclectic and casual designs would be a perfect match. “There is a complete change from 10 years ago, people are trying to live in a more casual way with smaller footprints all over the world,” he said. “Urban living is more of today’s trend.”

Kathy Ireland, who is an industry veteran herself with Kathy Ireland Worldwide is ranked 25th most powerful brand globally by License Global magazine and with annual sales of $2.6 billion, according to Forbes. Amini noted, “We are working together to create a fabulous line that is both affordable and fits American lifestyle well.” From his personal world to his business, Michael Amini takes his passion for design everywhere he goes. Per Amini, “Design is

inspiration. Design is all around us—it is in everything we do. From the street we drive on—to the clothes we wear. There is beauty in everything.” Michael Amini’s work celebrates a timeless era of fine furniture designed for the esthetically inclined at heart. ETA (Experience Transport Agency) is a “Customized Luxury Transport Service”— however, this concept is unlike anything you have ever seen before! You can be a King, a Queen or a Rock Star when you ride with this company. ETA is “Putting the Passion Back in Transportation.” ETA is a joint venture between Steve Moroney and Chad Taylor. These two amazing guys met each other many years ago when Steve was driving for many famous entertainers and by chance, reunited at the Hard Rock hotel while on the Dennis Rodman Tour. Chad was a vendor of Zappos and owned multiple printing companies here is Las Vegas. Chad and Steve both have an amazing background story, and it cannot be by coincidence that these two met again 10 years later and put together ETA, the most fantastic Luxury Transportation Company in Las Vegas, which may very well also be the most unique transportation service in the world. Chad also started mentoring young people to help them get on and stay on the right path. He uses his own background history to relate to young people who may be faced with challenges in today’s society. He has experienced these challenges for himself and teaches how he came through those difficult challenges; he was able to rise to the top in his career despite his calamity from when he was only 20 years old and found himself in a place that was less than desirable. He learned how to rise above and embrace his mistakes of his youth; he is very passionate about helping young people who are falling into trouble. Chad also went on to design his own clothing line based on his mentoring. It is called, “Mentor Empire.”

However, that does not stop him from being 100% dedicated to ETA and creating a wonderful Las Vegas experience. "Having a mentor like Steve Moroney is a pure stroke of luck,” explains Chad, a Midwest guy who values integrity and honesty over anything else. Their luxury vehicles are the most technologically advanced in the market. Once you step inside, you will explore the possibilities of Las Vegas in real time that will set you in motion for a day or night you will never forget. The best part is if you have a brand or business you want to promote while you are taking in the sites of Las Vegas, they put your logo or information on the outside of the beautiful decked out bus, which means you can potentially reach millions of people with your message. This is perfect for anyone, but also perfect for:

CorporateTravel Weddings &Anniversaries Proms & Graduations Bachelor/Bachelorette Parties Night on theTown This is all too much to imagine as it is all for the same price as simply renting any limousine in Las Vegas. You must book your next luxury transportation service with ETA and you will never again come to Vegas without them! To book your custom tailored transportation call ETA 702-207-0000.

Eternal Compassion

When something interesting happens it’s a breath of fresh air.

“Kismet,” a word we borrowed in the 1800’s from the Turkish meaning fate, is the first word that comes to my mind to describe the entire experience of Mario Basner’s World Heritage Collection. In 3 years, Mario miraculously curated a portal in time accessing 119 years ago. His collection features a sanatorium built 30 miles southwest of Berlin in 1898. Imparting a fateful story destined to change our lives today. “There’s a story to be told.” Mario reveals, “This is an exhibition that takes people on a journey [where] they get to have an experience and a dialogue. Really a kind of travel, not to just travel in time, but to an alternate state of mind.”

Undeniably, his interpretation does exactly that and its premise is woven throughout every image. The magnitude of the beauty captured—from the vast windows, cathedral‐like ceilings, and vibrant wall coloring to the exquisite detailing of the etched glass—compels one to overlook the dismal, decaying building erected to cure the “white plague.” (A term also used for tuberculosis: the cause of more deaths in industrialized countries than any other disease in the 19th and early 20th centuries.) Alternatively, his images reflect its splendor and tells a story of compassion and the human experience. “It’s really a personal experience. That’s the whole process. I wanted to share the experience. I wanted to take you there. I wanted to open a window and take you into these rooms.”

During the Sanatoria movement, to control the contagion of the disease, many patients were moved to quiet and isolated environments. He explains, “this is a time where people’s motivation came from a different place. It’s a different place and I think it’s very important to show what happens when things are done for the right reasons.” Surrounded by the forest, this 200‐acre selfcontained village of 60 buildings had 1200 beds and in the first 25 years they treated over 110,000 people. Mario’s work reveals an idea of compassion from the onset of construction of this hidden infirmary. Remarkably, the doctors and nurses lived amongst the patients; there wasn’t a wing designated for them, which emphasizes the idea of community. “It’s the story of Humanitarian Care… of Value… Compassion. Integrity. Courage.” Images of the once‐largest hospital in the world, constructed to create a space for healing, manifests an underlining spiritual presence. A powerful message of a loving

He summarizes that his historical documentary “takes [you on] a journey. It’s emotional.” Each photograph is captivating and evokes feelings. “Choices” is just one of the many images within this series intended to incite self‐discovery. Mario discusses, “[it] challenges our decision‐making process. Why we choose one path over another. And, you’re confronted with a choice. So, you start asking yourself why.” As a Vegas‐local, Mario decided there was no better place to exhibit his work than here in the great city of Las Vegas. His photographs bring an element of culture that serves as an oasis in our desert.

32

HIGHRISELIFE.COM

“That’s one of the great things about this city: it’s an open book. This is new for Vegas. I don’t believe anything like this exists anywhere in Vegas. When people come here, they stay awhile and treat it like going to a museum and that’s exactly what it should be. They have an emotional experience and they leave inspired. Basically, they get in touch with their values, and things that are quite profound and make us who we are. And that’s where all of this came from. That is why I did this. I had this kind of experience. I rediscovered really what was important to me. This was really a life‐changing experience for me, this project. And that’s why it’s here. I hope it’s a valuable addition to the art landscape of Vegas—I believe it to be that—and I welcome people to come.”

When you try to do something great, you can never do it alone —you always need the help of others. Mario Basner

community resonates in the story of humanitarian care demonstrating the compassionate nurses, the integrity of the doctors, and the courage of the patients to sacrifice their lives in isolation for a serendipitous journey. The sanatorium later became a rehabilitation center until 1994. In 2017, the "World Heritage Collection" has broadened the reach of the community and brought it across the world, sharing the story with even more people and touching their lives.

Undoubtedly, I am honored to be able to say that I interviewed Mario Basner. His remarkable genius has touched my life in a tremendous way. I am thankful for the day he found that Internet article which impressed him to travel across the world to capture the work that has made him one of my now three favorite artists. CAPTURING THE QUINTESSENTIAL MIAMI WATER VIEWS Ross100 Condo Reports: What that Miami View is Worth Written by Ross Milroy

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but exactly how much is that water view worth, and why are property owners willing to pay so much to have it? More than just something pleasant to look at, water views give condominium owners the true Miami lifestyle experience.

According to a new Ross100™ Condo Report by Ross Milroy, Miami’s luxury condo expert who specializes in properties $2M and above, some condos that feature a direct ‘water view’ sell for as much as twice that of a comparable unit with a ‘city view.’ Not surprising, the biggest price discrepancy was found on South Beach where condos with a direct view of the ocean or bay bring $1,950 per square foot while the same unit that overlooks the city sells for $970 per square foot; a difference of 101%. “Property owners in South Florida are looking to immerse themselves in everything Miami has to offer,” said Milroy, who has worked with luxury condominium buyers in Miami for nearly 20 years. “They are looking to escape the stresses and confines of everyday life by living in a home that gives them the openfeeling and vast views that never end. One of the best ways to do this is to come home

to the tranquility and dynamism that water views provide.” People’s desire to live near the water is nothing new; while we are no longer reliant on the sea to provide life resources, the feeling of well-being that views of water provide is long entrenched into our subconscious. Water view premiums can be found throughout Miami at buildings adjacent to the ocean, Biscayne Bay and even the Miami River. Buildings in downtown Miami including The Epic, 50 Biscayne and 900 Biscayne all show a wide price gap between condos with views and those without. At Ten Museum Park, the 50-story luxury downtown condo development, comparable condos are listed for sale at $1.1M for water view, and $759k for city view, a 49% difference to overlook the bay.

Photo by Tomalu Although, the water is not for everyone’s taste or budget, the majority of those buying in Miami seek to immerse themselves into what is quintessentially Miami, a tropical beach paradise. “Buyers want to see the ocean, hear the water, feel the ocean breeze, and have a seamless experience of bringing the outdoors in and the indoors out,” said Milroy. Some want to take daily walks on the beach while others rest easy knowing their view will

never be interrupted by new developments, but overwhelmingly; buyers seek water views for a better quality of life. They are drawn to, and are willing to pay for, views of the water that eases everyday stress and allows them to immerse themselves in the Miami lifestyle.

into the insatiable appetite for man to be near the water. In addition to man-made barrier islands in places like Dubai, ambitious projects are currently underway to offer custom floating man-made private islands in the UAE, Maldives and yes, even in Miami.

Bronze Goddess Written by Melanie Heuberg

Tanning can be hazardous to your health, but no matter which skin tone you have, you no longer need to feel beholden to the sun. Bronzers safely give the appearance of sun-kissed skin without the damage. Whether your skin is fair, olive, or dark, it’s time to enhance your natural glow and allow the bronze goddess within to shine through by utilizing the following tips. Fair Skin: For those with fair skin, stepping out the door and into harsh sunlight can cause burns that last for days, while spray tans often leave unseemly orange discolorations. Choose a bronzer that is one shade darker than your skin tone and apply with a soft brush for the most natural look. Hourglass’ Ambient® Lighting Bronzer, which retails for $50, is targeted toward those who pallor in complexion and offers beautifully sheer and buildable coverage with a subdued golden shimmer. Palettes include Radiant Bronze Light, Nude Bronze Light, and Diffused Bronze Light.

Olive Skin:

Dark Skin: Bronzers add definition to those with richer skin tones, ultimately highlighting cheekbones and sculpting the face. Using a powder with a subtle shimmer controls shine and helps even out skin tone for a picture-perfect look. Guerlain’s Terracotta Bronzing Powder is perfect for those with red or orange undertones and contains hydrating ingredients that leave the skin moisturized. This powder applies seamlessly and consists of a fragrant mandarin-vanilla scent. Guerlain’s Terracotta bronzing powder retails for $53 and comes in five natural finishes ranging from light to dark.

Luckily for those with medium skin tones, bronzers simply amplify skin’s natural sheen, which is why it’s important to stray away from formulas that pack on shimmer, unless the gold particles are ultrafine, like Armani’s lavishly pigmented Maestro Liquid Bronzer. This

product glides across skin like velvet and leaves a matte finish. Take no heed when it comes to liquid makeup because, unlike powders and creams, they often last longer and only require one or two drops for full coverage. Armani’s Maestro Bronzer retails for $64 and comes in three shades ranging from light to dark.

HAUTE

IN SUMMER Written by Melanie Heuberg

Resign your prints and florals to spring. Making fashion haute in summer is about wearing loose and airy whites with reams of texture for emphasis. Get ready to grab your favorite bag and hit the shops because this summer’s trends are sure to leave you looking effortlessly glamorous.

Pleats:

To further accentuate an ordinarily plain white ensemble, wear pleats. Pleats may be simple, or opulent depending on how they are styled. Pleats around the neckline provide an elegant waterfall effect, whereas a pleated skirt delivers a fashionable flounce. For those who are more daring, pleats can be built upon by layering, so don’t be afraid to play around with different fabrics and textures. The Row’s Tovo High-Waist Silk Full Midi Skirt would sit beautifully beneath a second pleated skirt made of a lighter fabric for a flowy dramatic look.

Whites: “No white after Labor Day” is often the reason it’s so frequently worn in the summer months. Why bring down a tradition when it’s so easy to revamp towards modern tastes? Wearing white over the summer will always be fashionable. White fabrics are usually thinner and breezier; they’re also easy to coordinate and easy to find in any size and style. Diane Von Furstenberg’s white Wide Leg Pants emphasize the most basic summer style, but will also make you look red carpet ready.

Ruffles:

If you’d like to add a delicate touch to your outfit, wear ruffles. They are timeless, feminine, and versatile whether worn front and center, around the sleeves, or along the hems. Be sure to take note of the edgework because a slender piping can create high contrast. Kate Spade New York’s Sleeveless Rffle Silk Top is a prime example. This gorgeous blouse is made of 100% silk and has black piping along the ruffles, which flutters with every step taken.

Amore, that isAmalfi Coast! Confessions of an unplanned traveler

Written by Zack Hussain Italy is romanticized in novels, magazines and movies with its rich culture, history, heritage, fashion, and food. It is a destination on everyone’s bucket list from the average tourist to a serious wanderlust. One could never boast of their travels without Italy in their repertoire of countries visited.

HIGHRISELIFE.COM

When I got the first opportunity almost 8 years ago to visit Italy, I didn’t realize that first visit would culminate into my sixth repeat visit to a country I call my second home.

One would think after six visits I would have explored the enchanting Amalfi coast either on my first or at least my second visit, but that was not the case. I had envisioned and romanticized visiting the Amalfi coast, driving down its windy roads, exploring all the villages, eating to my heart’s content, and gorging on the amazing vistas, but year after year I would visit Italy and it eluded me. I promised myself every time I visited it would be the year.

Amalfi, Italy - Photo by Zack Hussain Ristorante Belvedere, Ravello, Italy

Ravello, Italy - Photo by Zack Hussain The summer of 2017 was simply amazing, when I left I had no idea what to expect, and I came back with a treasure trove of memories, among them finally was my elusive trip to the Amalfi coast. It is everything I had dreamt of and more. The dream started as I drove with a very dear friend from Rome leaving its unusually hot and humid weather to a slightly temperate climate of the southern coast. If you are a traveler, June/July is a much better time to visit Italy before the throngs of tourist descend upon it in August and the mandatory abandonment of the cities by the locals in favor of the sea as they take their summer vacations and the weather gets hot.

The skies were a deep indigo blue, the Mediterranean shimmered and glistened in the brilliant sun light, the coast line is jagged and steep with smattering of red tile rooftops, bougainvillea are in full bloom adding bright pink accents to a brilliant scenery unfolding before me. I see many ports and marinas below; boats and cruise ships are but tiny dots trailing a white streak in their wake. The excitement is palpable as we begin the drive through the winding coast line. Anticipating my first stop in Sorrento, I look over to my friend Simone as he deftly navigates the roads as only a local can do and nods in silent affirmation fully aware of the excitement registering on my face.

Lemon and Olive groves welcome me to Sorrento as they flank the winding roads, big city of Rome a distant memory. We decided not to make Sorrento our base but a stopover. We drove into Piazza Tazzo lined with cafes and plenty of tourist. Older local men sought respite under olive trees in the main piazza as we sought to find long term public parking and then decided to stroll the idyllic cobble stoned streets browsing through shops and looking for the perfect lunch spot. Our exploration of the town took us through beautiful streets and storefronts and brought us to the seafront through an alleyway. The majestic Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria emerged in front of us and was breathtakingly positioned in front of the sea with sweeping panoramic views of the Gulf and Mount Vesuvius. Right next

door, Foreigners’ Club Restaurant which had amazing views of the sea found us the best table, and lunch was in session. As the evening rolled in, we reluctantly left our perch with the beautiful vistas and sea breeze and it was time to navigate the treacherous drive to Positano. The road to Positano is not for the faint of heart as it is narrow, steep, and windy, there are passes where you could barely pass a single vehicle let alone two in opposite directions. Positano emerges dramatically and suddenly on one of the many corners and stops us in our tracks. The sheer cliffs, the sweeping sea, and pastel colored

houses with bougainvillea’s doting the hillside simply are breathtaking. After checking into our sea front hotel with magnificent views and taking a slight pause to rest and enjoy the facilities, we embarked with giddiness to explore the village. A short walk downhill from our hotel en route to the center, we saw a sign directing us off the beaten path to the beach down below. Anything to avoid the tourists, we decided upon it and descended a series of stairs downhill through local residences, narrow and steep it offered us unbelievable vistas at every turn and no tourists. It is called Via Fornillo. We climbed down an equivalent of 93 stories leading us to a black pebbly beach, which was completely abandoned as most of the tourist I later found were congregating at the main port and beach where the center was. The stillness and emptiness of the beach was perfect. We made our way from the black pebbly beach climbing more stairs and a windy pedestrian road called Via Positanesi D’America along the hill face to the main port and beach. Along this road and away from the main center we noticed “Ristorante Lo Guarracino” and had heard about it, so we made mental note to return to it later for dinner. Having reached the Positano port and the main beach and the village center, we could see the hustle and bustle of the Idyllic Streets of Positano, Italy - Photo by Zack Hussain

tourist everywhere. Standing at the water’s edge the entire village rises in front on the hillside like a grand crown studded with precious stones. It is a remarkable sight. The weather was pleasant and balmy, the evening found many tourists dressed in their very best catching private boats for a cruise along the sea front. We grabbed a couple of drinks from the sea side cafe and proceeded to spend the next few hours people watching and just hanging at the port, it was magical.

Ristorante Belvedere, Ravello, Italy

Positano is a picture-perfect village, you come here to relax, to romance or to simply get away from it all. You don't rush through anything here, you can choose to just aimlessly meander through the picturesque streets shopping and visiting art galleries, or do something a little adventurous, such as kayaking or hiking up the many trails in the hills. You could also rent a beach chair for 10 euros and work on your tan along the pristine pebbly beach.

60

HIGHRISELIFE.COM

Continuing along the coast we head over to Amalfi. The views are simply spectacular, the never ending blue mountains, pastel churches, and colorful villas dot the pristine landscape. The scenic drive is breathtaking, and you don't rush this paradise. As I approach the Commune of Amalfi along the Amalfi drive, the stacking of the buildings, the jagged coast line, the revelry of beach goers, the pristine clear water presents itself with such aplomb and magnificence, I can see why there are so many tourists here compared to Sorrento and Positano. Amalfi is very picturesque and touristy. Throngs of them can be seen on the beach which is the front door to Amalfi, the restaurants are packed, the streets are chockfull and the area around Duomo di Amalfi is literally a zoo.

I wish it was not so commercial, because the beauty of Amalfi is bastardized for the tourist. I found the 9th-century Roman Catholic cathedral in the Piazza del Duomo to be magnificent: it is predominantly of ArabNorman Romanesque architectural style, and it has been remodeled several times, adding Romanesque, Byzantine, Gothic, and Baroque elements. It is a must visit and can’t be missed. After a few relaxing hours in Amalfi, we decided it was time to drive up to Ravello. Three miles of twisty roads up from Amalfi brings us to Ravello. I consider Ravello to be the crowning glory of the Amalfi coast- it has attracted artists, writers, and celebrities for centuries. The 11th Century Ravello’s Duomo (Cathedral) and Villa Cimbrone along with the 13th century Villa Rufolo are a must visit. The sweeping views of the Mediterranean with the perfectly manicured gardens arouse my senses. I revel in Ravello- the air, the light, and the serenity is simply mind-blowing. Ravello is a class apart from rest of the communes along the Amalfi Coast.

Ristorante Belvedere, Ravello, Italy

Lunch at Restaurant Belvedere in Hotel Belmond Caruso with its spectacular views was the highlight of the visit. If you happen to visit Ravello, please visit this establishment as they are known for their Margherita Pizza- they prove the dough for over 48-hours which makes it ever so airy with perfect chew, all ingredients are sourced from their own gardens and it is simply divine. We paired the pizza with Paccheri pasta and a medley of sea food, and washed it down with wine from a local winery. I strongly suggest taking after lunch coffee in the verandah adjacent to the restaurant. They will serve you coffee and chef’s dessert tasting menu in a wonderful setting that is simply spectacular with views of the sea and manicured gardens below. I could have spent the rest of the day here day dreaming, and I did just that. Bryce Canyon National Park offers something special for everyone. The National Park is famous for its fantastic views and historical geology. Originally established as a national monument in 1923, in 1928 it became an official National Park when the park’s enabling legislation was passed and signed into law. Then later in 1977, the park was designated a Class I air quality area, receiving the highest protection under the Clean Air Act. The purpose of the park is to protect and conserve resources integral to a landscape of unusual scenic beauty exemplified by high colored and fantastically eroded geological features, all for the benefit and enjoyment of the people.

Bryce Canyon National Park has been referred to as “a scientist's laboratory and a child's playground.” Because Bryce Canyon transcends 2000 feet in elevation, the park exists in three distinct climatic zones: Spruce/fir forest, Ponderosa Pine forest, and Pinyon Pine/Juniper forest. This diversity of habitat provides for high biodiversity. When you visit Bryce Canyon, you can enjoy over 100 species of birds, dozens of mammals, and more than a thousand plant species. That is amazing and is only a short distance from Las Vegas.
