Editor
Dear reader, Welcome to our July issue. Business is a profoundly optimistic force with the power to change the world. The process of bringing those ideas to fruition is innovation. At High Rise Life, we are always looking for creative models, real-world impact, far-sighted risk taking and paradigm busting execution. In this issue, you will find interviews with innovative business experts as they change the way we do business. Featured on our front cover is Gary Vaynerchuck, who took his family wine business and grew it from a $3million to a $60million dollar business in just five years. Gary has since successfully launched Vaynermedia, a digital agency and is a New York Times best-selling author of books like Crush it! and #AskGaryVee. Fortune and Crain’s named him “40 under 40.” He has taken the main stream as prolific public speaker and currently hosts the #AskGaryVee Show, answering questions on social media, startups, and entrepreneurship. Join us for an exclusive interview, as we get first hand advise on keys to success from the expert himself. You will also meet Victor Park, Cofounder of Salt Conference and Principal and Founder of Alternative Assets, a hedge fund capital raising firm. Park who has extensive financial background working for companies like Drexel Burnham Lambert and Morgan Stanley & Co. defines a new breed of hedge fund power brokers in our exclusive interview.
Elsewhere in this issue, we meet Daniel Graham, CTO of Clientivity, who gives us wonderful insight into their simple yet effective software platform that has gained quick momentum and taken on an innovative approach to hospitality sector. We also introduce you to the folks at Tanvas, who are revolutionizing surface haptics through creating a multisensory experience for our touchscreens. TanvasTouch technology, will enable us to experience virtual touch at a whole new level. Imagine feeling the texture of your dress next time you shop online. The possibilities of use of this application are infinite. For me personally, it was invigorating to engage with so many exciting new ideas and developments. What’s our design inspiration for July? We have addressed so many topics since December, such as how to make your beautiful place in the tower special, but this month let’s talk about flooring and wall coverings.
Written by Carol Townsend A.S.I.D. Interior Designer
I have always loved when a customer asks, “What can I do with my floors, Carol?” Now, in the mind of this designer, that calls for a playful attitude. Flooring and wall coverings are another source of art for me. With a plethora of choices on the market, what do you want to achieve? The world is your oyster. Stone floors are beautiful and timeless. They

add elegance and down to earth tones to your décor. The tiles that are available today are another source of artfulness. In the nineties, we spoke the language of ceramics. Today, processes have been refined and you can find almost any style you love in the porcelain family. Why is this important? We know that the buildings we live in are in constant motion, but not enough that you can feel it. Your floors can

StageThis Interior Design tell you when the building has moved through the appearance of small cracks. Porcelain will not shift, crack, or chip like the ceramics. This is because they are fired at a much higher temperature, making them strong and stable. Porcelain may also have smaller grout lines because of its stability, so you will not see the grout lines cracking like you would with ceramic tiles. Wood-like tiles were introduced a few years ago and have grown into a wide selection. In the world of high-rise living, these applications are perfect alternative option over wood floors. Now, let’s talk some fun! Wallcoverings are new, updated and very exciting. Nothing could
be better for those accent walls that you just don’t know what to do with. Treat these walls as possible pieces of art. The latest wallcoverings are very artistic. Not your old-fashioned wallpapers that we remember from the past. With corks, metallics, and graphics, these pieces are worth the price of admission. If you have not seen the advertisements for all the wonderful choices in these products, you owe it to yourself to go on a mission, and see them. Let’s do something fun, it’s summer time, and summer calls for fun! Also, see my newest four book series: The Lost Series available on Amazon and Kindle!

DANIEL GRAHAM Innovative Software for TravelAgents Written by Selcen Kavruklar Editor-in-Chief
Sounds intriguing, right? Well, that is exactly what Daniel Graham (36) CTO and his business partners Brett Talla (30) CEO, Troy Arnold (28) and Jon Allen (24) teamed up to create 6 years ago. Driven by the local tourism market, Clientivity has grown from offering discounts at 10 hotels in Las Vegas to over 80 hotels in Vegas and thousands more in 3500 cities worldwide. With over 12,000 members, Clientivity allows individuals to be their own travel agent, generate traffic to their site, utilize free services such as accounting, customer service, and most importantly earn a commission on hotel sales. Some examples of Clientivity hotel booking websites include: Reservada. com, VegasBooked.com, and RoyaltyReservations.com. “We are disrupting the hotel industry and making it more cost efficient like Uber did to the transportation industry.” noted Graham. Mr. Graham who is inspired by innovators like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg believes that changing the world in a positive way is his core belief.
“
We are providing our members with supplemental income, and giving them the opportunity to make money without the risk and cost associated with starting their own business.
“
When Daniel Graham came to Las Vegas, he came with a vision. He used his entrepreneurial skills and his background in software engineering to launch a brand that would not only build an innovative approach to the hospitality sector, but enable individuals who want to start a new business without risking the time and capital required. His simple yet effective software platform makes it easier to start an online travel business than it is to create a Facebook page.
In his spare time, Mr. Graham enjoys traveling and connecting with people. He is also a car enthusiast and enjoys taking his Lamborghini Aventador Roadster for a spin in between meetings. He notes, "Living at the Mandarin Oriental Residence has been an amazing experience. My neighbors have become great friends and are inspirational people.” Daniel Graham has shown us that innovation and ideas can truly lead to positive change. FREEZING HOT Hedge Fund Fever and Obsessions Written by Selcen Kavruklar Editor-in-Chief
As seen in the ShowTime original series, “Billions” to hedge fund managers, increasing assets under management, or having access to investor capital, serves as the single largest reason for the start and overall success of their hedge fund.
I caught up with Victor Park, coFounder of the Salt Conference, which is a global event that attracts some of the most prominent leaders from around the world of finance, politics, public policy, science, and philanthropy to discuss and identify solutions and capitalize on financial opportunities.
Mr. Park is also the Principal and Founder of Alternative Assets, a vertically and horizontally integrated hedge fund capital raising firm. He has extensive financial background with Masters of Business Administration in Finance from New York University’s Stern School and experience working with companies such as Drexel Burnham Lambert, Morgan Stanley & Co., Daiwa Securities, and VZB Capital.
one thing – Whose is bigger. I’ve been witness to and personally experienced a lot of surreal moments in the hedge fund industry and most of the tension center around the dynamic of “Whose is bigger.” -Whose brain is bigger -Whose wallet is bigger. -Whose rolodex is bigger. Q: What do you do? Victor: I’m an agent in the hedge fund business. I create hyper present moments that update belief systems and increase levels of consciousness. I then effectuate an emotional transfer of certainty.
Q: Could you be more specific? His knowledge has defined a new breed of hedge fund power brokers. Mr. Park Victor: I handle the dreams and gives us wonderful insight about the lives of some of the most focused minds in the hedge fund industry. hedge fund industry first hand. As an agent, I am the single service provider that can make a hedge Q: What do you think of the show “Billions” and how does it relate to fund manager’s dreams come true by raising money for them. hedge fund Industry? I’m most known for co-Founding Victor: In my opinion, the show Billions Salt Conference with Anthony is a sensationalistic dramatization about Scaramucci.

Q: What is a hedge fund? Victor: A hedge fund is an “information processing and monetization vehicle.” A hedge fund manager takes information, processes it, and figures out a way to monetize information through 10 distinct investment strategies. In general, these strategies are “absolute return” oriented and are designed to make money regardless of how the overall market does. Q: Why are there some many billionaire hedge fund managers? Victor: Hedge fund managers understand we are in the “information age.” In the information age, it’s not important how many people you have working for you, or if you’re a charismatic, likeable or a relatable person. What’s most important is your ability to take information, process and monetize it. As an information processing and monetization “being,” the game changer is finding out what they didn’t know, that they didn’t know, they didn’t know, or what they thought they knew, but didn’t know, they didn’t know. Folks in the upper echelons of the hedge fund business are information addicts searching for game changing data points.

Victor Park
Q: Which character in “Billions” best approximates you and your role in the industry? Victor: Eh, there isn’t really one. As it relates to Hollywood characters, I’m more of a thinking man’s Ari Gold or Jerry Maguire. In terms of my role in the process as an agent, good representation comes from just being passionate about somebody, having a connection and understanding of their goals despite any tension or philosophical differences. Some of the scenes in the HBO Series "Entourage" capture a lot of the dynamics in the hedge fund industry. Q: How did you get started in the hedge fund industry? Victor: I stumbled upon the hedge fund industry during the mid-90s through some friends that ran a hedge fund at the time. I’ve since grown up with a lot of folks who now constitute an influential group of folks in the industry. But for me, it was kind of a social acceptance thing as I started on Wall Street and got kind of confused as to why I didn’t feel successful or as well liked as much as I did in hedge fund circles.
Photo by Denisis Magilov Q: What do you look for in a hedge fund manager? Victor: One thing - a lucky guy. I’ll take a lucky guy any day of the week. I know a lot of hard working, smart and creative guys that do fine. But to have that career year, what I call a “one and done,” I’d always bet on a lucky guy. In general, the best hedge funds to work with philosophically are those NOT in the business for the money. Instead, the industry prefers the hedge fund managers that are on some sort of a selfactualization mission as a great investor. Q: What advice do you have for people looking to break into the industry? Victor: I’d say take a humble approach as it’s an insular community and there’s an academic and philosophical learning curve. Also, a lot of rolodexes from other finance industries do not readily translate into the hedge fund community. As a newbie entrant to the hedge fund industry, I’d assume there are already many well entrenched players in the hedge fund business. With Wall Street contracting, I see of lot of ex-Wall Street entrants to the hedge fund industry expecting to make an immediate impact. Given impressive Wall Street backgrounds a lot of these folks tend to take contemptuous attitudes to veteran hedge fund investors and asset allocation professionals referring to them in a derogatory manner as “box checkers.” This sort of approach/attitude
tends to back fire. Q: Tell us what being a power broker to the hedge fund industry involves? Victor: Thank you for including me in that category, but I’m not sure I’d qualify. However, as a function of my network of friends and friends of friends, I do feel we offer a unique bird’s eye view of industry dynamics. Q: How much do you charge? Victor: There’s a number managers can afford. Given the proliferation and growth of this industry, I think that in general you get what you pay for as the best will get bandwidth constrained. Hence, discount fees will probably get you discount service. Premium fees should get you premium service. Nobody said winning would be cheap. Q: How has being an entrepreneur helped you in dealing with any issues your manager and investor clients may have? Victor: One thing that makes hedge fund industry unique is the overwhelming number of entrepreneurs that constitute the industry who started their own firm with their own money on their own dime. As an entrepreneur, particularly when working with non-entrepreneurial folks, I always find myself saying: “Write this down…” “Stay with me on this…” “I know where that’s going - do you see where that’s going? “There’s July 2017
23
Also, it’s important to keep in mind we live in a world that is a spectrum of probabilities and scenarios as I find a lot of folks think of things as black or white/all or none. As an information processing and monetization being I see things more as data points that exist along a continuum of outcomes. Ironically though, I think there are two basic types in this business. Those who “walk the walk” and those who “talk the talk”. Those who “walk the walk” are too busy walking the walk to stop to “talk the talk.” Those who “talk the talk” are typically looking for someone to talk into walking their walk. Hence, if someone seems to always wants to meet to “talk the talk”, he’s probably not one to “walk the walk.” Instead, he’s trying to talk you into walking his walk. Q: What morning rituals do you do? Victor: I make a point of getting out of bed the moment I wake up. I then start by getting into “state” by priming my body through a quick but rigorous whole-body circuit on weight machines to generate an endorphin high. Then I take vitamin supplements that cleanse internal organs and remove arterial plaque and calcium deposits from my arteries. Then I have a coffee which constitutes my breakfast. The rest of my day tends to hyper present moments to varying degrees of quality.
“
To me, I don’t mind tension or volatility as these moments can lead to break through and progress. And of course, I much prefer being in the zone on cruise control. But net a productive day for me tends to keep me mentally distracted from the useless and un productive mental chatter our minds generate. Q: What advice would you have for folks trying to break into the hedge fund industry? Victor: Primarily, it’s a mindset. To this point, I’d say strive to seek opportunities and not security as most folks get stuck due to fear of the uncertainty. In the hedge fund business, you don’t have to be great to start, but you must start to be great. And do something different - don’t conform instead transform. Secondly, when you run out of gas, and you will at times in this business, take a “duty driven” approach in serving the important people in your life as this service mindset will get you thru the tough times. But remember, surviving is not thriving. Lastly, believe that information will power your transformation as a lot of folks get trapped in their own networks or knowledge base. If you keep doing what you’ve done, then you’re going to get what you got. So, better to get comfortable with discomfort as when we know better we do better. Q: Where are you from originally? Victor: I get that question a lot. I would tell you I grew up as a working class catholic from divorced Korean immigrant parents. After attending college in Connecticut, I moved to NYC and went to Business School at Stern. If you’re going to paint me with a brush, I’d say consider me a neurotic New Yorker.
In the hedge fund business, you don’t have to be great to start, but you must start to be great and do something different - don’t conform instead transform.

a huge philosophical and motivational difference between entrepreneurs and non-entrepreneurs. We should be all focused on game changers and our own growth and transformation to the best actualized versions of ourselves we can achieve. It’s hard to get non-entrepreneurs to think this way. Instead, folks bring out the blame throwers, play the victimization card and look for the chicken soup or positivity more than be process and results oriented. In my mind, as an information processing and monetization being, there are no failures, only outcomes.

GARY VAYNERCHUK Keys to Success Written by Yelena Brezhneva
“People are chasing money, not happiness. When you chase money, you're going to lose. You're just going to. Even if you get the money, you're not going to be happy.” Gary Vaynerchuk
Recently, I had the enormous pleasure of catching up with Gary Vaynerchuk, a social media titan with 1.9 million followers on Instagram, 2 million followers on Facebook, and 1.49 million followers on Twitter. He’s a four-time New York Times bestselling author, speaker, and successful entrepreneur recognized all over the world. Born in the Soviet Union in 1975, his family immigrated to the United States in 1978 in exchange for wheat due to the SALT 1 Treaty (Strategic Arms Limitation Talks), which allowed Soviet Jews to leave the country in exchange for American wheat. Today, Vaynerchuck is a CEO of VaynerMedia, a brand consulting agency with a net worth of over $160 million. In 2014, Gary was named Fortune’s “40 Under 40,” and in 2015 he was also included in Crain's “New York Business 40 Under 40,” and Inc.’s list of “Top 25 Social Media Keynote Speakers You Need to Know.” In February 2017, Gary became a member of the reality TV series Planet of the Apps, with will.i.am and Gwyneth Paltrow. The energetic 41-year-old entrepreneur is setting the pace for everyone around him. His sharp, bright eyes, high-speed speech, and body language transmit confidence, humbleness, and a deep sense of knowing. Q: What is your morning routine? Gary: Bathroom, shower, I brush my teeth and
grab my phone to make sure that there are no emergencies. My biggest fear is that there is something going on that I need to address in London as soon as I wake up, or that something happened with a client that I'm not in control of. The first 30 minutes is intense, it's collecting data. After that, I catch up on my inbox and my social media. I work out and go to my first breakfast meeting, either at 8 or 9 o’clock in the morning. Q: How do you inspire yourself when you are at your lowest? Gary: Everything is about perspective. What am I going to be upset about? Business? I've lost a client? I don't stay in a negative place very long. If I made a billion dollars on an investment, but an hour later got a phone call that my mom passed away, will I be happy? No. Since it didn’t happen, I need to put my perspective in the right place. Q: What do you tell people that are not ready for big project, a new job, marriage, or family? Gary: The first thing that I would think to myself is, “They are a losing player.” They are on defense. What can I do to motivate them to understand that? They think they are playing it safe and that they are doing the right thing, but 9 out of 10 times, they are doing the wrong thing. To be honest, I don't like giving a general answer; I like to know the person individually.
I try to do something jarring, or paint a very clear picture of why they are making a mistake. WHEN YOU ARE PROCRASTINATING – YOU ARE LOSING! Q: What is the biggest mistake that people make when they are starting to use social media? Gary: Underestimating how impactful it is on the rest of their lives. A lot of people think that it's nice to have, but it's not tactical using a picture now and then on twitter; it's misunderstanding. It is a framework of how we are going to communicate forever. Every day that goes by, it becomes more important. Q: How did you realize your life’s purpose? Gary: I think I realized that I have a communication style, a personality type, and a level of charisma that is always going to attract attention. Sometime in the last 3-5 years, it became obvious to me that I was going to achieve everything that I wanted. What started to become more interesting was how to get both: how to get all the selfish things that I wanted and how do to become selfless and leave an enormous legacy. Based on people’s reactions of me, I think it became apparent what was happening and it was pressuring me to level up my own game. You know, I almost feel a sense of guilt for the way I live my life because I know that I was gifted many good

things and feel a sense of responsibility for delivering on that. Q: What is the worst part of social media? Can it hurt people? Gary: I think the worst part is that social media doesn't change us, it exposes us, and most of us are hurting. That manifests into negativity and it hurts peoples’ feelings. Most people aren't secure enough to deal with the ramifications of a public domain where people talk about their looks, their skills, and their lives. I think the worst part is that we’re going to have to go through a 20 to 30-year window where we all recognize that we are living our lives on record and we will see the worst part of it. In 100 years, it will become amazing! Although, I do think we will go through a difficult period where some of us realize there’s a lot more inside of us, which isn't so fun. Q: What are three keys to success? Gary: #1. Self-Awareness. You must know who you are. If you don’t know who you are, you will play a game that doesn't benefit you. #2. Empathy. I’m aware of why people are doing what they are doing and I’m empathetic. They shouldn’t care about what

I care about. They should care what they care about. I think empathy makes things very liberating. I’m never let down by anybody because I employ empathy and understand they are in it for themselves. That’s the way it should be. #3. One thing that I think is unbelievably controllable is work ethic. If you were born with money & resources, it doesn’t mean you’re set. I don’t know anyone who made it and didn’t work hard. Q: How do you balance your personal life? Do you think you’ve achieved balance? Gary: ONLY through communication. Only through marrying somebody who was used to a hard-working father and it was her norm. Only through being very smart about it. Taking turns and over communicating! One hundred percent! And OVER-communicating! When you are feeling a disconnect, or when you need a common interest, you've got to create that. Romance or whatever it might be, it's communication that fixes everything.

The Las Vegas Market Keeps Rising! According to Forbes, Las Vegas is the 11th fastest growing metropolitan area. High-Rises and vertical living spaces are becoming increasingly popular and attracting a diverse crowd of residents. Written by Yelena Brezhneva Many Californians find it more cost-effective to move to Las Vegas. Every weekend we greet residents from San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco who are looking to relocate. I’m happy to report that the market has less and less distressed sales. Finally, we are back to more traditional sales and as the Greater Las Vegas Association of Realtors reported, local home prices and sales continue to grow. According to GLVR Housing Statistics, April and May has surprised many with a house shortage and continues price increases. How do they determine that? Well, a balanced market is supposed to have a six-month supply of homes available for sale; currently, we have less than a two-month supply. Most metro areas are now facing this issue and Southern Nevada is having a bigger issue. The reason is simple, we continue to have monthly increases in population while the demand for housing is greater than in most places. Prices continue to rise! The median price of a singlefamily home increased by 3.3 percent in April to 13.3 percent in May 2016. Local condos and townhomes sold are up 12.2 percent from April and 15.1 percent from May 2016.
According to GLVR President David J. Tina, we are getting to the point where we can call this a housing shortage. By the end of April, Las Vegas had 30.9% less houses listed for sale compared to last year! As for condos and townhomes, we have witnessed a 71.4% decrease from last year. Las Vegas had a 32.4 percent decrease compared to one year ago when single-family homes were listed for sale. For condos and townhomes, this situation is even more drastic; we are experiencing a 71.8 percent drop from a year ago. If you like numbers, you’ll enjoy learning that the total value of local real estate transactions on MLS was almost $821 million for homes and the number for condos, high-rise condos, and townhomes was $93 million in April. If we are to compare these numbers to a year ago, we see that sales volumes are down by 19.7% for condos and up by 15% for homes. If we look at May we will see that total value of local RE transactions for homes was more than $1 billion. It’s 46.4 percent higher than a year ago. The number for condos, high-rise condos, and townhomes is more than 114 million, which is 1.5 percent less compared to a year ago. July 2017
35
High Rise Statistics
Statistic shows that homes and condos are selling faster than last year. Last year, 70.8% of all homes and 68% of all condos and townhomes were sold in 60 days. April of this year we see that 79% of all homes and 86.4% of all condos and townhomes were sold within 60 days.
In May, 81.6 percent of all existing local homes sold in 60 days, last year that number was 71.2. Local condos & townhomes had 87.3 percent in May sold in 60 days, compare to last year that number was 67.7.
These GLVAR statistics include activity through the end of May 2017

STAR Spangled
Fashion Written by Melanie Heuberg
Draw inspiration from the Star-Spangled Banner to show your patriotism this 4th of July. A flawless look is in the nuances. Here are several fashion tips to dazzle your friends during Independence Day’s festivities.
Stripes This 4th of July, wear stripes and make a bold statement. I suggest toning things down with color. Wide navy-blue stripes over white will mute a busy pattern and still allow you to wear eye-catching accessories without clash. Kule’s casual collared Brooke Blouse is a rolled quarter sleeve top that would be perfect for any summer picnic or celebratory barbecue. You can also add a touch of red to the white and blue combination. For example, Ted Baker London’s Aloes Rowing Stripe Maxi Dress is a chic choice when heading out for the evening. The Aloes Rowing Maxi features a keyhole neckline accentuated by a golden adornment while the thick blue striped textile dress cascades into a deep maroon. July 2017

ACCESSORIZE
Add a bit of flare to your outfit with these fashion add-ons. For those lounging outside at the start of the day, a textured hat would be a lovely adornment. The Squishee® IV' Wide Brim Hat by Eric Javitz is handmade cotton/ viscose headpiece that looks like straw and is travel friendly. If a hat still doesn’t provide enough protection from the sun, try a fun pair of retro round shades in colors like yellow or pink. Prada’s Cinema sunglasses have rose opal lenses that match the holiday’s motif. At the end of the night, it’s all down to the fireworks, so I recommend accessories that sparkle like a spectacle. Chandelier earrings mimic the shimmer of the firework’s afterglow. Unlike the 4th’s pyrotechnics, the sparkle of Avanti’s 14k Two-tone Gold 3/8ct TDW Diamond Teardrop Chandelier Earrings will last a lifetime.

This Independence Day, red will be the new little black dress. Red is a sophisticated and timeless color that can be paired with just about anything. A flouncy A-line ensemble is a classy option that can be dressed up or down. IEENA for Mac Duggal offers a Double V-Neck Fit & Flare Party Dress that will have you twirling through the night’s affairs. Red isn’t just a fabric color though. A bright red lipstick or polished manicure can also add a pop of color to any outfit. Dior’s Couture Color Rouge Dior Lipstick in Plaza is a showstopper that stays on for hours without drying out your lips.

Beginner’s Guide to Botox What to Know and What toAsk Written by Dr. Lenny Hochstein
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons in 2015 over 6.7 million Botox procedures were performed making it the most popular minimally invasive procedure in America. That number continues to increase as women as young as 24 are beginning prophylactic Botox to prevent wrinkles from forming in the first-place. These “Baby Botox’ers” are pressured to look perfect thanks to Social Media. Older women who opted to put off Botox until their 40’s also don’t know what to expect. Once they see the smoothing of wrinkles, their heightened brows, lifted eyes swear by it and often add fillers and other procedures to the mix. Dr. Leonard Hochstein, Board Certified Plastic Surgeon of over 20 years and his trusted, highly credible Physician’s Assistant Jenya Titova, the “Botox Master” at Hochstein MedSpa in Miami, Florida offers some insights and a fast beginner’s guide to Botox.

HIGHRISELIFE.COM
Will it hurt? You want to know about the actual procedure and its immediate aftermath. Will there be
swelling and blotchiness? “Everyone reacts differently given skin color, texture and injection site. It is important you get a real expectation,” explains Dr. Hochstein. Ms. Titova, suggests taking arnica tablets starting two days before treatment to reduce any bruising at the injection site can be very helpful. “The actual injection feels like a small prick. It’s not deep like an injection at the doctor and the needles are smaller,” assures Jenya Titova. Dr. Hochstein advises women to get their Botox done at a reputable MedSpa or plastic surgeons office administered by licensed professionals.
What will my results be like and how long will they last? Botox isn't cheap and it often requires multiple injections to achieve a desired look. Everyone takes to Botox differently but on average the result lasts 2 to 6 months with 4 months being the most common. The person administering should be able to gauge anticipated results depending on area so you know what to expect before committing money and time. “Botox done to smooth deeper wrinkles like frown lines and crow’s feet often see them return within 4 months because it’s such a repeated expression,” explains Ms. Titova.
What areas of the face can be treated? Why do you really want to do it?
What is the best way to achieve a natural, smooth yet unfrozen look? The key here is how much is administered. You want to be clear that you are trying to rid wrinkles and/or lift brows without compromising your ability to express yourself. For example, if you're getting Botox for crow’s feet the injection must target a specific area as not to disrupt the cheek movement. “When you’re starting out with any procedure it’s important to go gradual and keep things as natural as possible. It’s very important to understand how the muscles in the face all connect and work together so you achieve the balance between smoothing wrinkles without compromising facial expression,” says Dr. Hochstein.
We all want to look our best however, exploring the motivation behind your decision matters. If you’re in your 20’s, are you trying to prevent wrinkles or are you obsessed with the smooth faces you see on Instagram? “We get a lot of models and social media influencers with millions of followers coming in for Botox," explains Dr. Hochstein. “They believe their livelihood requires them to maintain a perfect flawless complexion,” he adds.
How will I be charged? Some doctors charge based on the region while others charge based on the amount used. It's important to know an estimated cost before treatment. The average cost is between $300 and $900 but again, doctors in major cities with cosmetic surgeons who perhaps treat celebrities and socialites are good at what they do and their rates will reflect that. “When it comes to any procedure you get what you pay for so it’s important to do your research,” advises Dr. Hochstein who has done many procedures on women who compete in pageants, fitness models, and celebrities.
“Traditionally, Botox is used in the upper face to treat forehead wrinkles, frown wrinkles and smile lines around the eyes. However, we can also use it to correct some lower face and neck concerns,” explains Ms. Titova who became an instructor for Aesthetic Mentors, where she trained physicians, new to aesthetic world, on techniques of enhancing patients’ appearance with cosmetic fillers and Botox.
Is Botox a good alternative to face lift in a younger patient? According to both Dr. Hochstein and his Physician’s Assistant Ms. Titova, Botox should not be thought of as a face lift alternative, but should be highly considered by a younger patient as a preventative treatment. Botox can be started as early as in your 20's to relax expression wrinkles. This way patients can age gracefully without them.

Feel the Magic at Your Fingertips Tanvas: The Touchable Canvas Written by K. Alex Shaw
It is without question that technology has transformed our perception of time. Living lives of instant gratification; we have grown accustomed to having everything immediately at our fingertips. The way that we see and feel time is vastly different than the way our grandparents experienced it. Through innovations and advancements, even life during 1987 seems archaic today. It was during this time the cofounders of Tanvas, Ed Colgate and Michael Peshkin, began working together to discover surface haptics. For 10 years at the Neuroscience and Robotics Laboratory at Northwestern’s McCormick School of Engineering, they researched the technology that created a multisensory experience for our touchscreens. Surface haptics is a new form of haptics that replicates the human sense of touch. Tanvas enables us to feel texture on flat or physical surfaces, like our phones or tablets. Traditional haptic feedback relies on vibrations. Smartphones can give a tangible feeling when typing on a touchscreen using ordinary haptic feedback. When you touch the key on the flat screen, it vibrates slightly to give an impression of touching a physical button, but it doesn’t give much life to the flat, cold, and glassy touchscreen. TanvasTouch technology gives a realistic sense of touch through its own screen that uses electromagnetic pulses to send responses back to your fingertips. To create virtual touch, it uses electrostatics to control friction. The technology enhances the feel so that you can feel the difference between corduroy and silk, curvy and straight lines, choppy, wavy, grainy, and fine. When you scroll your finger across the touchscreen you can feel the

texture of grass, cobblestones, wooden bridges, and bricks. This innovation brings a refined feeling of unlimited textures to our touchscreens. The possibilities of use of the application are limitless. Modulating friction, as the technology senses the finger position it provides haptics simultaneously. Haptics are infused in the display to simulate the things you see and feel. In practical use, TanvasTouch could enable clothing shoppers to feel the fabric before making their purchase. This amazing advancement in technology took a great amount of research and development across a long span of time. In March 2006, Tanvas filed its first round of over 30 patents. The company was launched 5 years later, in May 2011 and publicly debuted at CES in January 2017. After receiving much acclaim and award, the company hopes to attract partners interested in implementing their technology. This May, I was introduced to Tanvas, while on vacation in Chicago. Lounging poolside at the Soho House Chicago, I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff Allen, Tanvas’ Vice President of Product Development. I was honored when he shared the product and was extremely impressed by its
technology. Without understanding haptics, Tanvas is simply cool. 30 years after its conception, I anxiously await the opportunity to be able to use it on a day to-day basis in its various applications. The ease of use and convenience of technology can cause one to easily overlook the number of years many developers spend to bring all the products we use daily to life. The genius of these men and women, to be able to think ahead and create a solution for tomorrow coupled with their dedication to complete the tasks of these products across years and time is commendable and deserves an applause each time a device touches someone’s fingertip. Grand Canyon – South Rim Written by Francesca Maria
Hello Las Vegas High Rise Life Vegas fans! I always look forward to writing my column “Off the Beaten Path” because I love to share the experiences of escaping the city for a getaway. This month I wanted to talk about the Grand Canyon, however, I cannot cover everything about the Grand Canyon into this one section, so I decided to write about the South because the South Rim of the Grand Canyon is the most visited rim at the Grand Canyon.
However, if you're planning on exploring the Grand Canyon in depth, then find lodging inside the park. This will allow you to take longer hikes, experience the sunrises and sunsets at the Canyon and learn more about what makes the Grand Canyon a Natural Wonder of the World. Hotels in the South Rim of the Grand Canyon include: El Tovar Hotel, Bright Angel Lodge, Maswik Lodge, Kachina Lodge, Thunderbird Lodge, Yavapai Lodge and Phantom Ranch. Just outside of the park is the town of Tusayan, which completely revolves around Grand Canyon South Rim visitors. You'll be able to find comfortable family hotels

just 6 miles from the South Rim entrance of the Grand Canyon. This year marks the 97th year of the Grand Canyon National Park and they have preserved the area so that it remains in its natural beauty. You can take donkey rides down and do a group camping trip with a professional guide. Or you can choose to go by water. I chose the Grand Canyon helicopter ride. They will take you down inside and you can get a larger perspective of the vastness of this amazing natural phenomenon. I remember when I took my kids when they were young to visit the Grand Canyon, they were in awe from the vast depth of the canyon, but they were also intrigued by the wildlife there. The squirrels will come right up to you and eat from your hand. However, they have signs posted not to feed the animals. I would not let my kids break the park rules, but some other visitors were giving them chips and cookies and we were able to get very close to them and take a lot pictures. 25 years later, my kids still have fond memories of their trip.
It's open year round and has hotel and lodging options both inside the Canyon as well as in nearby towns. For most South Rim visitors, one day is enough to take pictures, walk around the rim and even take a helicopter tour or bus tour. If this sounds like your plan, consider staying in a nearby town like Williams, Flagstaff or even Sedona. These places offer more hotel, dining and entertainment options than in or near the Grand Canyon, and will enhance your experience of the Great Southwest.
