LETTER FROM THE
Editor
Dear reader, Welcome to our June issue! What would Vegas be without entertainment? A desert metropolis built around gambling has transformed into the entertainment capital of the world. We kick it off with our cover star, Shea Arender CEO of The Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra. Arender, who is a talented producer, vocalist, music arranger, songwriter and entrepreneur has recently acquired the Symphony Orchestra. It’s an exciting time for classic music lovers as Arender marks the triumphant return of the symphony after its absence from the public for the past 13 years. Arender hopes the orchestra to become a symphonic pop institution as he incorporates pop hits of Elvis Presley with a classical overtone. Bringing a healthy dose of humor to the mix, we get personal insight from famous comedian Jon Lovitz on his life and his first-ever comedy residency at The Foundry inside the SLS Las Vegas with his show Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey in “Reunited.” Lovitz, who met and became friends with master impressionist Carvey through Saturday Night Live, keeps us well entertained with their incredible stand-up comedy. Michael Airington, who is one of the most gracious and humble entertainers I’ve ever had the privilege of interviewing, gives us a wonderful insight on old Hollywood entertainment along with laughter-inducing
antics, as he takes us back with his impersonations of Paul Lynde from Hollywood Squares. Airington has spent years conjuring up Lynde’s character back to life and is so remarkably talented that Lynde’s actual lifelong friends and actor’s estate have granted Airington rights to perform as Lynde. Elsewhere in the issue, we meet DJ, producer and songwriter Wade Martin, who has worked with famous singers like Britney Spears, Will.i.am and even the Rolling Stones. His latest single, with Norwegian singer Jadelle, called “Done,” has hit the No. 2 spot in Billboard’s Hot Singles Sales chart. He doesn’t spin live yet, but don’t be surprised if he takes on the Las Vegas night life soon. Don’t forget to take time out to honor the most important men in your life this Father’s Day. Go beyond that boring tie and standard steak dinner and dive deep into our gift guide. We truly are the entertainment capital of the world. And no matter what you’re looking for, we got just the event. There is always a healthy amount of spectacle to keep you well amused. We hope you enjoy every page of this issue as we welcome summer. Best wishes,

JON LOVITZ REUNITED WITH HIS FIRST LOVE
Jon Lovitz is HILARIOUS! As a comedic actor for over 30 years, he has a created a body of work that serves as a testament to his capacity. As a fan, one can easily take for granted the challenge of transitioning from a comedy actor into a stand-up comedian. “It takes 10 years usually to learn how to do it,” Lovitz noted.
For its first-ever comedy residency, The Foundry inside the SLS Las Vegas booked Lovitz and Dana Carvey in “Reunited.” Both met and became friends through Saturday Night Live. Lovitz explains, “I started doing stand-up about 13 years ago and [Carvey] gave me some great tips on how to do it. I’m grateful to him… to be doing a show with him, for me is a real honor. He’s really one of the best stand-ups I’ve ever seen. So, to co-headline with him is pretty amazing.” Since childhood, Lovitz desired to be a stand-up comic after being exposed to Woody Allen and Lenny Bruce’s works. “I used to think I wanted to be in musicals, but then I wanted to be a comedian like Allen [after] I went and saw his first [comedy] movie: Take the Money Run, when I was 13. Then I saw the movie: Lenny, with Dustin Hoffman, when I was 16,” says Lovitz. These movies inspired him to go and buy their albums from the record stores.
16

“I used to do Allen and Bruce’s comedy routine in my college dorm,” he continues. After Lovitz graduated college, he attended standup workshops on Saturday nights at The Comedy Store. Despite the folly, and as serendipitous as life would have it, someone told Lovitz they weren’t hiring stand-ups. That’s when he decided to focus on acting. Lovitz says, “I thought: 'I guess I’d just skip that step.' I thought it was a good way to get into showbiz but I’ll just do acting.” After spending almost, a year in New York and still being unable to get work, he returned to Los Angeles and decided to refocus on comedy. He began classes at the Groundlings. Then a friend told him to learn camera at the Film Actors’ Workshop. Lovitz confirms, “He’d go: 'Well, everything in LA is on camera.' Thank God he told me that because the camera was much different.”
“
So now it’s 30 years later and I’m here with Dana Carvey from Saturday Night Live and I feel very grateful.

Lovitz’s performance on The Tonight Show led to getting booked on SNL. Lovitz details, “I was the last person they expected to hit [and] hire. Al Franken said to me, “You were everything we weren’t looking for in one person, but you were funny.” While performing on SNL, Eddie Murphy, Dana Carvey, and Robin Williams all told him he could be a stand-up. He recalls, “The first person that said I can be a stand-up was Dennis Miller!” Despite their encouragement and his college days of practice, “The challenge was overcoming my fear. It’s always something I wanted to do. I would get up on stage and I was so nervous, that my heart was just pounding in my chest.”
He adds, “You know the hotel used to be the Sahara. We are in the same room where all these great performers performed: like Dean Martin, the Rat Pack, Frank Sinatra, and Sammy Davis. I saw a picture in the Cosmopolitan of Louis Prima, Elvis Presley, and Keely Smith. The three of them performed on the same stage that we’re performing on. It’s pretty amazing!” The art and act of bravery to stand in front of a room of strangers that have not paid to just listen to you speak, but are commanding you to make them laugh is an incredible feat that most have never done and certainly would not dare to do. Lovitz has excitedly taken on the challenge alongside one of his longest and closest friends.
Lovitz admits, “I am much better now,” and knows that it takes time to go to the max. He is very excited to be on the Las Vegas Strip at the SLS.
Remaining 2017 Show Dates: June 30, July 1, September 1 & 2, October 6 & 7, 27 & 28, and November 3 & 4. Tickets on sale at FoundryLV.com. Contact K. Alex Shaw at kshaw@highriselifevegas.com. Find more of her stories at www.highriselife.com, and follow @kalexshaw on Instagram and Twitter.

Comedy is exaggerated realism. It can be stretched to the almost ludicrous, but it must always be believable.

For actor, comic, writer, voice artist, producer, and high-rise resident Michael Airington, the world of entertainment began at a young age when he landed an opening act for Mel Tillis, and later opened for Brenda Lee, Tony Martin, John Denver, Jackie Vernon and the legendary Rosemary Clooney.
“I never had a job outside the entertainment world. In 1981, I was the youngest comedian in America doing opening acts for country singer Mel Tillis and Dotty West. Wayne Newton came up to me at a Christmas party at Bally’s and asked how he knew me. I said I was the 15-year-old kid doing all the opening acts at Frontier Hotel.” -Michael Airington Airington’s career later evolved into TV and voiceover work. He took on guest roles on shows like The Suite Life on Deck with Disney Channel and Archie Bunker’s Place on CBS. He was further recognized for his roles in General Hospital on ABC, The Jeffersons on CBS, One Day at a Time on CBS, and became a spokesperson for Mattel Toys. He was also notable for his character as Ester Goldberg. Airington’s alter ego character quickly gained a large online fan base, performed a popular cabaret performance in Washington D.C., and

became the official spokesperson for Zannel.com at the Sundance Film festival. Fans most notably recall Ester from his informative comedy The Weekly Wrap, which ran for 63 episodes. In 2003, Airington’s love for comedy took on a different spin after a visit to New York to see Frank Gorshin do his George Burns show, Say Good Night, Gracie, in New York. “I was sitting in the back row of the Helen Hayes Theatre and I said to myself, I could do this with Paul Lynde.” The idea was born and Airington decided to perform as legendary comedian Paul Lynde. “There was something unique about Paul I liked, he didn’t care and pushed boundaries.” Paul Lynde, who is remembered as one of America’s most honored comedians was sought out star on prime network television during the ‘60s and ‘70s.

He was most recognized as the center square on The Hollywood Squares, and for starring in the Broadway and film version of Bye Bye Birdie, and Uncle Arthur in Bewitched. “I think a lot of us related to Paul right away because he was so out there. At the same time, he was one of the biggest stars on TV and one of the first celebrities on the cover of People magazine,” noted Airington.
Airington took his critically acclaimed one-man show from Palm Springs to San Diego and Los Angeles with sold-out tickets and grew into the role over the past 13 years. He recently performed at the Bally’s Hotel here in Las Vegas and is currently looking for a new venue to make it a permanent home. Over the years, friends of Paul Lynde, such as Peter Marshall, Kaye Ballard, Karen Valentine, and Jan Forbes, have helped Airington perfect the character and bring Lynde back to life. The late actor’s estate also gave Airington full approval and cooperation to do the show. “I did the show for the baby boomers, but the millennials were coming in and just loving the show,” said Airington.
“
As many impressions as I did, it just seemed like Paul was one that everybody loved the most.
“
Michael Airington
“I never forgot when Mel Tillis pulled me aside at Frontier Hotel one night and said, ‘Michael make me a promise- you will help people in this business and 98 percent will take advantage of you, but that 2 percent will appreciate it and that’s what’s important.’” Michael Airington continues to spark up a smile to all those who cross his path from his acting to his impersonations. His multitalented character always leaves his audience well entertained. In the end, “I love making people laugh,” noted Airington.

With over 40 million visitors a year, Las Vegas has become an entertainment mecca and Shea Arender is here to be a part of that progress as the CEO and new owner of the Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra is making its comeback after a 13-year absence and Arender aims to give tourists and residents the ultimate cultural experience no matter where they are from. “Symphony will be reinvented with the Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra,” said Arender. Born in Louisiana, Shea Arender started his career by carefully studying Elvis Presley and acting like James Dean. He would purchase VHS tapes featuring Presley and Dean from the dollar store. Inspired by these icons, Arender began his career as an actor and singer. “When you have little things to do in a small town, you have a lot to dream about,” Arender explained. He feels that music runs through your veins if you are from the south. Looking back at history, the best musicians of our time came from regions between Memphis and New Orleans: Elvis Presley, Louis Armstrong, Charlie Parker, Benny Goodman, Sidney Bechet, Antoine "Fats" Domino, Ernie K-Doe, and many more! Arender carried these influences with him through 34 countries and 30 states. Arender later became an Executive Producer and worked on Broadway musicals, such as The Wonderful Wizard of Song: The Music of Harold Arlen (composer of The Wizard of Oz). He hopes that the orchestra becomes a symphonic pop institution and one of his first shows incorporating the hits of Elvis Presley with classical overtones to his production (The King Symphonic). Other shows will be traditional classical music, like Beethoven and Mozart, and the exploration of movie theme soundtracks. He is one of those talented individuals who has enormous amount of creativity and a gift to empower others through his artistic work. “Behind all that glamour as many think there is a lot of hard work, disappointments, let downs, eye-opening experiences, built in desire to reinvent yourself constantly and continually grow,” Arender continued. Today, thanks to Shea Arender, the Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra is a proud member of the League of American Orchestras; its public value is undeniable. From each performance, the Orchestra also gives to selected charities, such as Make a Wish Foundation. Shea Arender was given an International Peace Award by the United Nations for his charitable efforts for kids around the world. Photo by Ella Gagiano - High Class Studios
The Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra has the potential to have a profound and long lasting impact on our community. Arender declared, “These are new beginnings with the Las Vegas Symphony Orchestra." Heading from the city to the tropics? Men’s summer fashion is all about maintaining minimalism in order to keep cool during the scorching summer heat. Sunglasses
Jewelry
Aviator sunglasses are a wardrobe staple and work especially well in the summer; they were originally designed to protect pilots’ eyes from glaring sunlight at high altitudes. Tom Ford’s contemporary 60mm Aviator sunglasses are a classic example of high-end aviator frames. These dashing sunglasses come in gunmetal grey, have 100% UV protection, and are made in Italy. Another great option are Ray-Ban’s Outdoorsman, which are traditional in lens shape, but also feature cable temples allowing for more security during high-octane activities, like an intense round of volleyball or a bike ride along the coast.
Men’s jewelry can often veer towards an industrial look with bulky metal pendants and cuff bracelets. In the summer months, it’s best to keep jewelry light. Leather bracelets are great summer accessories that exude a playful beachy vibe. Leather bracelets come in a variety of styles and textures, such as Fossil’s Retro Pilot Bracelet. Fossil’s Retro Pilot is a dark layered braided leather rope accented with sleek stainless steel rings that brings a little bit of luxury to the outdoors. For a look that embraces a maritime theme, Miansai’s Anchor Half-Cuff bracelet is a popular choice. This wrap bracelet is made of vegetable tanned leather and features an anchorshaped hook.

Slip-On Shoes

Slip-ons are perfect for those who aren’t sure whether they’d like to dip their toes in the sand. Sperry’s boat shoes are wonderful seaside accessories because they were designed for both seafarers and land dwellers. The Sperry Wahoo Slip-On is a streamlined canvas shoe that is lightly cushioned and has a razor cut outsole for stability in both wet and dry environments. Another notable brand is TOMS, which is known for donating a pair of shoes for every pair purchased. TOMS Navy Washed Men’s Classics are another option. These shoes are coated in linen, have rubber outsoles, and are vegan-friendly.

HEALTHY SUMMER HAIR ESSENTIALS Written by Monica Coretta
If you live in a climate as dry as that of Las Vegas, your hair not only soaks up the humidity and harmful UV rays, but it also picks up a great deal of sand and dust every time the wind blows. Therefore, you need a powerful hair care regime to keep your gorgeous strands healthy, moist and hydrated. If you don’t take proper care, the heat will not only damage your hair, but leave your strands lifeless.
Tame Your Mane When you live in a dry climate area, humidity attacks your hair with a lethal force and the heat becomes your worst enemy. Your hair can only survive these two if you hydrate and moisturize them regularly. Hot, dry weather makes your hair excessively frizzy, but you can get rid of that by quenching the thirst for moisture. Invest in a leave-in conditioner, which will help smoothen out the frizz and help you lock in moisture.
Styling Naturally
Block the Sun
When the sun is glaring down and your hair is getting fried every day, why pour more heat with styling products like curling irons, straighteners and even blow-dryers? Just let your hair air dry, and if you’re worried about styling, get a hairstyle that suits your natural hair type.
If your hair is being exposed to the sun’s harmful UV rays, its color and essential proteins are constantly depleting. This leads to excessive breakage, lack of volume and brittleness. Try to keep your hair nicely covered with hats, caps, sun-protection sprays, scarfs and all other products, or fashion staples that help shield your hair from direct exposure to the sun.
Essential Oils The sun does not only dry up your hair, but more importantly, it dries up your scalp and you need to moisten your scalp with hot oil aromatherapies. When the scalp dries up, it becomes prone to several ailments, like acne or dandruff. Oils such as olive, castor, almond, rosemary, sandalwood, chamomile, eucalyptus, peppermint, fennel, and jasmine can help you keep your mane moist and healthy.

WADE MARTIN MUSIC PRODUCER TO THE STARS TAKING OVER LAS VEGAS Artist | Celebrity DJ | Award Winning Producer
At the age of 8, Martin wrote his first song. Then, from ages of 8 through 14, he was so driven and selfmotivated, he wrote so many songs that he convinced his parents to buy him a tape recorder in which he recorded four tracks for the first time: piano, guitar, drums, and his voice. He soon achieved quite a success in the Canary Islands and Spain and quickly gained recognition. Martin sold cassette tapes from the trunk of his car and was so successful that, by the age of 17, he could buy his first house with cash that he got from his sales. “I thought I was INVINCIBLE,” Martin recalls. At the age of 18, he moved to United States and thought he could easily duplicate the success, but it wasn’t as easy as he had hoped. “US was a different animal and I was not able to replicate the success I had in Europe.” At the age of 24, Martin finally achieved great success by producing for names such as: 50 Cent, Nas, and R. Kelly. He built his recording studio in Arizona, but was hit by another adversity. Challenges that hit everyone in the music business at that time: technology. People were able to stream music and they STOPPED buying music! The process of buying CDs basically stopped and everyone was just uploading, ripping tracks through different software. In the early 2000s, a boom of “click producers” took over musical industry. People would create tracks in Garage Band and would sell it dirt cheap to record labels. “My income, because of this technology crashed.”
Said Martin. The income from his recording studio went away. Artists began recording themselves at home with all the new and easy technology. Wade Martin had to create something new and he did… He became a music producer to the stars. I met Wade Martin 7 years ago and got to see how he moved from Phoenix, Arizona to Las Vegas and created WORLD’S #1 Studio here. He worked with celebrity artists and bands like Will.i.am, Icona Pop, Flavor Flav, Wyclef Jean, Steve Aoki, DMX, Britney Spears, Carrot Top, Rolling Stones and many more… Martin always aims to create more and try things that haven’t been done before. Multi-talented Martin admits that despite the variety, our market is lacking high quality headphones. A new headphone line, custom designed by Wade Martin with EXEO Entertainment, is coming out in the market at Best Buy. “It will be the best on the market,” he said. His other important project is the release of a new music video, "Someone to You," with Jadelle (song and music written by Wade Martin). Stay tuned and check out his Twitter, Facebook & Instagram @WADEMARTINSP. At the end of our interview, with his British accent, Martin notes, “I’m going to be highest paid DJ by the end of the year.” Remember when time comes, you’ve heard it here first! OFF THE BEATEN PATH The Desert Princess
Written by Francesca Maria
ALL ABOARD! Located inside the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, you can have excursions on Lake Mead to Hoover Dam, all aboard the "three-decker Mississippi-style paddle-wheeler." The Desert Princess vessel was built mainly to cruise the clean, blue waters of picturesque Lake Mead. Visitors and locals alike can enjoy a fun combination of spectacular scenery and good food on regularly scheduled cruises and private charters. Escape the Vegas grind and have some "Off the Beaten Path" entertainment for an outrageously great time on the water. Lake Mead was formed by the creation of Hoover Dam and is the 16th largest man-made lake in the world occupying 1.5 million acres with 820 miles of shoreline. Approximately 30 minutes away from Las Vegas. Lake Mead is home to a vast array of animal species such as the desert

tortoise, bighorn sheep, coyotes and much more. Also, various indigenous plants and trees are a regular feature in the area. One of the most popular ways to view the lake is on the Desert Princess where you can enjoy the water and the desert scenery. No words could ever describe the breathtaking vistas, gorgeous skies, incredible rock formations or the clean, clear, blue water.
Sightseeing Cruises Daytime on Lake Mead gives passengers a chance to enjoy the full beauty and majesty of the area. Champagne Brunch Cruise The waters of Lake Mead can be incredibly beautiful, the air is crisp and clear, and the spectacular colors change each minute as the morning sun bathes the mountains in brilliant light. Get on board of the Desert Princess and enjoy beautiful Lake Mead for a lovely combination of cruising, sightseeing, and a traditional American-style buffet breakfast. These cruises are $45.00 per adult and $19.50 per child. April through October cruises run every Sunday, departing at 10 a.m.
