elcome to February 2017! What? When did that happen? Your first step on the road to your dream home was deciding in, which fabulous high-rise tower you wanted to move to. Now, what next?
Making that space say, “This is why I chose this home!” The latest design magazines, style magazines and simply color magazines are a great way to start your journey, but I want you looking at the pages in a different way. First, go through the magazine quickly for a first glance. Then, go back and see what image on what page catches your eye. Tear out that page. Do this in each magazine. Tear out you say? Well it is your magazine and the purpose here is to define down what is catching your attention. Color, is your eye being caught by deeper tones? Are you being uplifted by softer colors? Are they in the cool or warmer tints? I have a client who was reluctant to have guests come to her home…she even went so far as to rent a room in a hotel to have a party, when her home was certainly spacious enough to handle a nice group of folks. When we sat down for my first design interview, I noticed she was visibly upset. What I found out was, she hated her home. The colors were all wrong for her personality, the house was physically too dark. People who are cool color people, should not think about dark, earthy tones for their home. Now understand this when I mention cool versus warm colors. Almost, 95% of all customers decorate in warmer colors. Someone who normally dresses in blues, purples etc. would get very tired of dark blue or purple on their walls….but there is an artistic way to bring those cool colors in and be able to change them when you are tired of them. Start with a cooler white color on your walls for example, icy whites versus creamy whites. Dramatic white sheers floor to ceiling to high-light your wonderful windows onto the world. Then take a wonderful splash of color such as blue, fuchsia, purple and “paint” the sides with trailing panels. You have a wide open palette to work with. Look at some of the fabulous fabrics at the design boutiques in town….You too can have fabulous windows at a fraction of a showroom price. Now find a fairly neutral sofa, loveseat, sectional for your main space. Again, go toward the cooler shades, you can add color and razzle dazzle with throws and pillows. I love changing my pillows with the different seasons, so a neutral seating area lets me have fun with my accessories. Lighting is important as well. Add details of your favorites, then make sure the bulbs are a cool white. Share the joy of your new home with family and friends. Listen to their comments about what they love about your new space, so you can formulate your design plans for 2017! Love the adventure you are on, don’t let stress step in your path…have a friend who understands your plan look at your photos from the mags and go for it! This is the start toward your happiest home, have fun! Carol Townsend Stage This Interior Design carolstownsend@gmail.com

here is something about a luxury penthouse, that leaves its audience attracted to its sheer design and stunning architecture. These linear monuments, towering sky high amidst the glimmering lights of Las Vegas showcase unequivocal views and exude exclusivity and power. It is no surprise, why some of the wealthiest enjoy the prestige that comes with residing sky-high in these luxury urban abodes. Pedram Rahimi of Rahimi Designs, works with a team, who specializes in building and designing grey-shell condominium units. They have gained a stellar reputation in the creation and expansion of some of the most magnificent penthouses in Las Vegas luxury market. Adding to their collection this month are two of their latest masterpieces at The Martin, Units 4307 and 4407. Rahimi, who has a keen eye for detail notes,
"
I take on each project as a blank canvas from a grey-shell to a work of art. “Each of my works take on a unique transformation focusing on both luxury and functionality.

These lavish units are 3,653 square-foot of pure extravagance. Both adorned with their own nearly 800 square-foot private patio space, along with Juliet balconies, allow for striking views of the Las Vegas strip. The space integrates both art and architecture in such a way that creates an incredibly serene, yet empowering environment. The floor to ceiling windows coupled with a random matrix of columns add dimension and create an open living space. Upgrades include, but are not limited to: recessed lighting, imported stones from Spain and Brazil, custom designed doors, 12 foot tall ceilings, built-in bars with sink and wine cooler, Dekton countertops, Gaggenau stainless steel appliances, Robern vanities, Nest Thermostats, Kohler kitchen and bath fixtures, Dimplex fireplaces, high-end automation systems, electric shades, custom built library and work stations, custom built walk-in closets with vanity, en-suite bathrooms and custom imported mosaic tiles and soaking tubs in master bathrooms- all make up some of the finishing touches.

lthough, both units share same amount of integral space, they each bring on a different contemporary charm. Unit 4307, with three-bedroom, 3 ½ baths, was named after Frank Sinatra, one of the most iconic singer of American history. With clean crisp lines, predominantly in hues of white and powdered grey, this unit can be summed up by Ol’ Blue Eyes himself, “I’m not one of those complicated, mixed-up cat’s.” On that note, the materials chosen were deliberately selected to take on a minimalist approach. The Frank Sinatra unit offers, large 48”x24” slab white crystal marble floors throughout and stainless steel baseboards. The Kitchen boasts high-gloss white cabinetry equipped with scratch and stain resistant Dekton countertops. Venetian plaster wall in living space with a combination of white marble and teak wood, create a Zen atmosphere in the master bath and powder room. The Frank Sinatra unit, also includes a state-of-the-art theater room, fitted with Italian leather theater seating. With 4k high-definition HD projector and custom led lighting, this is a Super Bowl or Fight Night party no one is likely to forget. The architecture coupled with innovative design make the 4307 penthouse sleek, open, and perfect for entertaining. Unit 4407, also consists of three-bedrooms and 3 ½ baths, but was named after the legendary movie star Dean Martin for having dramatic curve appeal with a Hollywood-sized dose of glamour. The material palette consists of large metallica granite slab flooring throughout, bedrooms carpeted with marble slab trims, and high-gloss accent black walls. Rich wood column beams and trims adorn the doors and library. Unique pendent lighting dangle throughout the entirety of the unit, adding subtle elegance. Imported mirrored mosaic act as a stunning backdrop for both the bar and master bath. Along with enchanting gold onyx in powder room, sets a modern and quietly glamorous tone. Elsewhere, the spectacle continues with master bedroom handsomely decorated with crystal chandeliers, flaunting its own living space divided by custom shelving. The master bedroom also includes, a large custom walk-in closet, and shimmering views. When it gets dark outside, to keep the residents and guests well amused, a richly veined white marble kitchen with high gloss cabinets and dramatic views set for delightful evening. Unit 4407, is a place for those who like to mix good looks with good design. The Dean Martin Penthouse is pure theater for the aesthetically inclined. The unifying theme of both residences is sophisticated simplicity. Each adorned with custom furniture that were chosen by Rahimi himself, creating a unified design carefully uncluttered with an edgy yet elegant distinction. Each are beautiful in their own form and exemplify purity. These fully-furnished residences are turn-key ready.
"
“It’s like fitting pieces of a puzzle, every piece has perceptual meaning and importance in my design.”
"

hen thinking about getting out for a beautiful drive and scenic views, one doesn’t have to go too far from the city of Las Vegas to experience a delightful outing with the family, or a romantic drive with someone special, or if you want to do some camping and hiking. What could be more beautiful in the month of February, for Valentines month to experience these grand red rocks? Pack a picnic lunch, some extra water and your camera and prepare for a fun day. Regardless, if you enter The Valley of Fire from the east or west side it is equally stunning. The intense red rock formations referred to as Aztec sandstone are scattered all over the desert adjoining the west side of Lake Mead. The state park boundaries enclose these fascinating rocks and extending over 30 miles of scenic Kodak moments. Scientists claim that these extraordinary rock formations were formed by petrifaction of ancient sand dunes during the Jurassic Era, approximately 160 million years ago. The State Park has a decent sized visitor center near the west entrance, with a few interesting desert plants and cacti that can capture your interest as well as the scenic drive. There are various viewpoints and features with foot paths and walking trails along the main road (NV 169). For even better scenery, take the 6 mile scenic drive called White Domes Road which forks northwards next to the visitor center; where you will discover more viewpoints, other popular trails and many beautiful rock formations in a range of other colors. If remaining on the main road NV 169 the most notable points of interest include:
THE BEEHIVES Which are beautifully layered sandstone mounds that were originally sand dunes in an ancient desert, but are now preserved in stone.
ATLATL ROCK Which is an isolated group of red rocks. Ancient petroglyphs can be found at many places amongst the rocks especially along the foot trails. For those not staying overnight, the 2 mile road past the campgrounds also makes for a scenic diversion.
SEVEN SISTERS My personal favorite! Where you will see a group of tall eroded red boulders surrounded by our beautiful sandy desert and creates a pleasant setting for a roadside picnic, there are picnic tables available. If you have children it is a perfect place to play hide and seek and explore.
THE CABINS Another great picnic location. You will find three stone cabins, that were built at the base of strikingly high red cliffs, during the 1930s and now form a backdrop for a lovely picnic area along the highway. Other nearby places you can journey to on this outing include: Lake Mead (10 miles) Bowl of Fire – Lake Mead National Park region - Aztec sandstone mounds in the middle of the Bowl of Fire Whitney Pockets (68 miles) - more outcrops of deep red rocks Enjoy your outing Las Vegas peeps and write to me to tell me about your favorite outdoor activity.
