Propagation is the essence of the nursery industry for without this important 1st phase of all plant production, there would not be an industry. Whether from seed, cutting division or tissue culture, every plant has specific needs for this process to occur in an efficient manner. Some segments of the industry have been fortunate to be able to embrace mechanization, by way of Transplanter, mainly by way of plug production from seed derived species. Vegetative propagation, due to the variable nature of this process, has taken longer to move to Transplanter technology. This needn’t be the case, with improved propagation systems now available after being proven in Europe and America for many years.

ZenPlug™

Stabilised Peat Plugs for the Professional Grower ZenPlug from Grow-tech for tissue culture. When transplanting delicate tissue cultures, protection of the roots and callus is critical. Balancing this with speed and efficiency can be tricky and stressful. With this in mind, Grow-Tech created the ZenPlug for tissue culture starts. An open plug shape allows for the precise and rapid placement of large callused plants such as orchids and trees in the centre of the plug. With a single hand motion, the ZenPlug easily folds around the fragile roots. The s-shaped interior holds the roots firmly but gently in place and gives young plants the optimal environment for root growth. Let the ZenPlug reduce the stress of planting your tissue culture production. When used in conjunction with clear plug trays, they are ideal for starting orchids. PACKAGING

Pre Filled - FlexiTray®

The Optimal Growing Environment for Cuttings and Seeds FlexiTrays consist of stabilised plugs made of peat, other organics and a foam binder. The plugs’ consistent moisture control and high aeration reduce rooting times which means a faster crop turnaround for you. This ready-to-use system increases the efficiency of your greenhouse by allowing for earlier transplanting, better crop timing and full automation. Commercial greenhouse growers trust Flexitrays for rooting cuttings and seed germination. The production process we use can fill most North American and European configurations. We will also work with you to develop a custom formula to meet the needs of specialty crops. FlexiTrays can be dribbled to foster the optimal environment for seed germination or to allow for maximum stem to soil contact for un-rooted cuttings. The growing medium remains stable in hydroponic production and won’t clog filters.

COUNT CELL TYPE

Each cell size has its own unique advantages. Smaller cell sizes offer several benefits, including helping to strengthen a weaker root system, while maximising space in your greenhouse area. The larger cell size allows the plug to remain in the tray longer before transplanting, allowing the plant to retain both moisture level and nutrients longer. Before choosing that final cell size, consider your production schedule, the species-growing pattern, including root development and the available propagation space.

Coir Blocks Jiffy Coco Products

Coco substrate has a variety of uses, depending on the way the coconut husk is processed. Divided into forms: Husk Chips (HC), Coco Pith (CP) and Crush. Husk chips are produced by cutting fresh green husk into sleeves and chipped afterwards. Coco pith is fine material combed off the coconut fibres. Crush is the whole husk ground to form a combination of chip and pith. Products and RHP After treatment that includes ongoing washing and buffering the raw material gains RHP certification that is necessary for it to be considered for use in Holland. It is free of weed seed and is monitored throughout the entire process. EC is typically < 0.05mms 1:15 dilution. Unbuffered Coir Some coir products can be washed but unbuffered which can result in the release of Na and K from the coir at a later stage in your production. This has EC raising effect in your potting mix and can be problematic for salt sensitive crops.

Unwashed Coir Coir is available in an unwashed and unbuffered form with only the aging process being carried out to ensure the correct physical characteristics. This coir is best used only if it is mixed into potting mixed at relatively low percentages. EC is typically > 2-3mms at 1:1.5 dilution.

Coir Discs

Jiffy Coco Products Jiffy offers the Hydroponic industry a line of products that is geared towards changing the industry into sustainable vegetable growing.

Gerbera can be grown in 100% coir, or mixes of coir and perlite. The Jiffy CD will, just like all coarse coir, contain about 75% water and 25% air.

Jiffy CD

As coir substrates can vary widely in quality due to the need of proper treatment of the media, Jiffy guarantees the quality of the Jiffy CD to confirm to the need of the horticultural industry.

The Jiffy Coir Disc is specially designed for the cultivation of Gerbera, providing maximum structure stability and an optimal air/water ratio. The Jiffy treated media guarantees against high Na and K values, avoids excessive conductivity while at the same time having Ca and Mg readily available through the fertiliser added to the substrate.

22

This means that Sodium (Na), Potassium (k) and Chloride (Cl) levels are as low as possible to avoid problems related to Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg) and other useful fertiliser components binding to the media.

The disc concept is to utilize the maximum fibre content in the substrate to obtain the maximum structure stability and optimal air/ water ratio. The handling volume is reduced making for easy handling of the material and lower transportation costs. By using the Jiffy CD, no extra pot filling equipment is required and no bulky substrate needs to be handled.

Peat

Power your plants

Baltic Peat

Baltic peat is widely known for its physical, biological, and chemical properties. The climate and geological conditions in these latitudes foster the development of the valuable properties of peat. The most important component of soil is organic substances, which make up the structure of soil and are an essential growth stimulant. Peat ensures high moisture absorbability, air circulation around the plant roots, and low heat conductivity, thus creating optimum conditions for cultivating plants and stimulating development of the root system. Baltic peat ensures the best possible environment for plant development and the formation of a root system.

Substrate Peat Block peat Pre formulated substrates - 250 litre bags Pre formulated Terracult substrates are produced in modern mixing facilities where the peat’s texture is maintained. Besides the large selection of various peats (block peat, milled peat, structure and level of decomposition), Terracult also offers many aggregates such as clay granulate, perlite, fertilisers, such as micronutrient fertiliser and patterned release fertiliser, and other materials. * Order Lead time 4-5 months. Container or pallet orders.

You can use the peat that we offer as a raw material for producing substrates, as well as to improve the soil in horticulture and agriculture.

24

Raw Peat White Block Peat - 300 litre bags Standard peat: 0-10 - texture peat The fine texture ensures a very high level of water retention, which protects the plants from drying out. It is often used as soil to foster sprouting (frequently for automatic sowing lines). Suitable for the reproduction of seed vegetables, trees, decorative plants, as well as for improving other types of soil. Coarse fraction peat: 10-30mm Coarse texture peat This peat is intended for perennial potted plants (trees and shrubs), because they ensure high air capacity. Coarse fraction peat ensures air exchange and drainage of the same level as that which can be achieved with the presence of perlite and vermiculite. Fine

Oriand

Liquid organic fertiliser Oriand is an organic leaf fertiliser based on several plant extracts. It contains several nutrients that are needed for a more balanced and healthy growth of the crop. Oriand ensures faster and better absorption of nutrients, and thereby increases the natural resistance of the plant. This increases especially the resistance to insects and pests (with regular use). For the best results of Oriand, it is important that the treatment is repeated at regular intervals. Only then all the leaves are actually covered. Due to the growth of the crop, it is necessary to repeat the treatment every week. During periods of rapid growth, it is necessary to spray Oriand every five days.

Dosage 1 litre per 1000 m2. Repeat every 5 – 7 days. In times of rapid growth: repeat every 5 days. * Always apply a test spray in sensitive crops. Storage Oriand can be kept for two months after opening, providing the bottle is securely closed and stored in a cool, dark place.

Application When using Oriand, ensure good leaf coverage. Oriand can be applied with all the usual spraying techniques. The most reliable result is obtained by beginning early in the spring and continuing so that the crop is clean at the end of the season.

Alsa

Natural crop protection Application

Alsa repels thrips and other insects and makes insect control more effective. Alsa is a natural crop protection product based on the odour and taste compounds derived from garlic. These compounds, which can be effective in influencing the behaviour of harmful insects such as thrips, are present in garlic where they are dissolved in oil. DeruNed has succeeded in extracting these oil-soluble odour and taste compounds from garlic using a special process. This has resulted in Alsa: a unique liquid product that can be effectively used for the control of thrips and other insects.

26

Alsa increases the effect of chemical and biological control. When Alsa is applied the odour and taste of the plant change in such a way that the insects no longer find the plant attractive. The insects become restless and leave their hiding places. Chemicals and natural enemies can now be used much more effectively in the fight against insects. In fact the insects become more accessible. Moreover, preventative use of Alsa means that you need to spray with chemicals less frequently, which ensures that your crop remains in better condition.

You can use Alsa in all seasons to support the chemical and biological control of insects. However DeruNed advises that Alsa should be applied preventatively, which means beginning early in the spring. In fact, the earlier the insects come in contact with Alsa, the fewer insects can develop in your crop. Alsa does not stimulate resistance. If possible, administer Alsa using a dosing pump. If this is not possible, you should administer a one-week dose of Alsa in one day along with the nutrients. Do not use Alsa simultaneously with hydrogen peroxide products. Dosage Thrips: 400 – 800 ml per acre. (1- 2 lt./ ha.) repeat weekly. Other insects: 800 ml per acre. ( 2lt./ha.) Alsa remains active for 7 to 10 days. Storage Alsa can be kept for two months after opening.

Alsa works systemically in the plant, which means that it can be administered with the nutrients. Alsa remains active in the plant for about 7 to 10 days. After this active period, the compounds are transformed in the plant into elements that are then used for normal metabolisation in the cells.

Saponin

Natural wetting agent Saponin is a natural wetting agent based on extracts from the Yucca Schidigera. This plant contains exceptional sugar derivatives that enable it to survive under the extreme conditions of the desert. These sugar derivatives are isolated from the plant extract using a special process. Saponin gives a strengthened, multi-functional effect, which means that Saponin can be used as a wetting agent. Saponin improves the effectiveness of crop protection products, reduces the amount of visible residue, and ensures that the crop dries more quickly. Saponin is a 100% natural product. Saponin is based on natural plant extracts, and is therefore very safe for your crop. It is completely biologically degradable and does not cause leaf burn. Saponin is easily mixed with (cold) water and chemical crop protection products. Lowering the surface tension Saponin works in a similar way to other wetting agents. Lowering the surface tension of the fluid means that the fluid (and thus also crop protection products) spreads better over the crop. This means that the crop protection products work better, and it prevents residues. Moreover the fluid layer on the crop is thinner and therefore dries more quickly.

Application Saponin can be used throughout the year in both vegetables and flowers, on both substrate and natural soil. Saponin can be combined with all common products (integrated pest management). Dosage As a wetting agent: 1 to 2 litres per 1000 litres of water. As a crop dryer: Depending on crop and weather conditions, 1 to 2 litres per hectare is mixed in with the wash-down cycle. (the last few minutes of the irrigation time) Note: The product can foam up a little when being mixed, so it should be added last.

Fungal diseases have less chance

Storage

Saponin can not only be used as a wetting agent when spraying crops with crop protection products, but also as a crop dryer after rain or sprayed irrigation. A crop that dries more quickly has less risk of fungal diseases.

Saponin can be kept for two months after opening, providing the bottle is securely closed and stored in a cool, dark place. Once dissolved in water, Saponin breaks down after about 36 hours.
