Constance Antoinette first showed an interest jn music and performing arts at the age of 3, and has been rocking the world ever since. A graduate of the famed Musicians Institute of Hollywood, Constance has acheived quite a music and acting career ever since. Constance has appeared on GLEE playing alongside the one and only Adam Lambert and is a member of Shiragirl. In addition, Constance is pursuing a solo career, recently issuing a standout single and video entitled Freakshow!
Highwire Daze recently caught up with Constance to discuss the making of Freakshow, working with the likes of Jerry Only of the Misfits on She Demons, her current performances with Shiragirl and the Gritty In Pink project, and more! Read on...
What was the inspiration behind your new single Freakshow?
So LennyJ. (the producer) and I were messing around in the studio and I wrote the guitar riff. It turned out sounding kind of like a creepy circus, so the name Freakshow came to mind. A lot of us hide quite a lot from the world. So many of my close friends and even I, myself have been bullied and shunned going against the “norm”. Freakshow is a safe place for all of us “freaks” to be ourselves.
Who directed the amazing video for Freakshow and who were some of the performers who participated
in it?
The amazingly talented, Alicia Agramonte directed Freakshow. We wrote the concept together and she really brought it to life. All of the “freaks” in my video are personal friends of mine! I’m so lucky to have such talented friends.
Another recent single you did was a song called Positions. Tell about your collaboration on that song with LennyJ. and the story behind the song.
Well to be honest, when I first heard the Ariana Grande song I immediately wanted to make it pop punk. I hit up LennyJ. and he was down so we decided to just cover it and have fun.
Your first solo single was entitled Ghost Girl. What is the background or story behind that song?
Ghost Girl is about the harsh reality and inevitability of losing your innocence, whether it may be from years of being hardened, personal experiences, or abuse. This causes a “ghost girl” of the child I once was. Sadly, I have faced many negatives down the road of life and this song asks if I would be better off remembering and embracing my past self. Fun fact, I’m remastering, well redoing, Ghost Girl. Be on the lookout for when I drop it in the next few weeks.
How did you wind up in the Shiragirl band?
I was actually playing a gig with a different band and Shira was there. Funny enough, she didn’t stay to say hello so I had no idea who she was. A week passes and I get a DM from Shiragirl. Before you know it, I’m playing Warped Tour with them!
What is one of your favorite or most memorable Gritty In Pink performances?
Definitely the first one. We had such an amazing show and I remember being so happy the whole night surrounded by such amazing people.
For those who have never been, what could one expect from a live Gritty In Pink show?
Definitely a bunch of bad ass talented women melting your face with good music.
One of your acting credits was on the show GLEE where you played guitar with Adam Lambert. What was performing with Adam Lambert on GLEE like?
Adam is really sweet! Hung out with us musicians on set and wasn’t snooty like the rest of the cast.
What was it like working with Jerry Only of the Misfits on She Demons and is there any chance of a reunion at this point?
Jerry is definitely a character. He’s a very kind and warm person, but also quite spontaneous. He makes everyone feel like part of the family. If enough people ask, we’re going to have to do a reunion show!
Are you currently involved with any other bands and projects outside of your solo work and Shiragirl?
Nope! Just my solo project and Shiragirl, however I am going to be performing my solo music this year with my own band!
What’s up next for you?
I have a bunch of singles ready to go. Expect a good amount of music coming your way. \m/
