PLATES The “VAI DAVY” plate mill, with a 4 - high reversing rolling mill, including a rolling mill and a finishing mill, produces high precision plates with virtually no quality deviations. This has lead to high customer satisfaction as Dongkuk meet demands as quickly and effectively. Dongkuk Steel did grow into a world-renowned company, with steel plates being their core strategic product.
The Roughing and Finishing Mills are 4-high reversible, and the Mill Stand Housings are the world’s largest single-cast mill housings The Reheating Furnace utilizes the Walking Beam system and its reheating capacity is 235 tons/hr. The mill line consists of two mill stands, the Roughing Mill and the Finishing Mill which are capable of rolling products that exit the reheating furnace at various temperatures. By incorporating the X-ray Thickness Gauge and the Profile Gauge that interact with the rolling process, the “VAI DAVY” Plate mill is able to produce plates with accurate thickness and tight surface flatness tolerances.
THE OVERALL PROCESS IS PLC CONTROLLED
The “VAI DAVY” Plate Mill, which has an annual production capacity of 2 Million tons, has incorporated the latest technology in computer integrated manufacturing in order to produce top quality plates. Its product size range covers all plate products from 6mm to 180mm in thickness and 1,524mm to 4,100mm in width.
BEST CUT PLATES IN THE HEAVILY EQUIPPED SHEARLINE After the Rolling Mill Line, the product is levelled in the Hot Leveller. Then the product passes through one of the two cooling beds, the No.1 Cooling Bed (Light Line) for plates less than 50mm in thickness and the No.2 Cooling Bed (Heavy Line) for plates over 50mm in thickness. The Walking Beam type of movement of the cooling beds enables to eliminate damages on the surface of the product. The shearline consists of a Crop Shear, two Double Side Shears and Slitter combination, and two End Shears, which are heavy shearing equipments that cut the product into the final sizes requested by the customer. Thicker size plates that require gas cutting are processed by the Plasma Cutting Machines.
Accelerated Cooling and Direct Quenching The Mulpic is the facility required for producing Thermo Mechanical Control Process (TMCP) products. The production of higher-quality and more rigid products is possible through accelerated cooling (ACC) or direct quenching (DQ) of the rolled products.
