THINK, WINK AND DECIDE…
Indigenous Language Activity:
Below are six statements which were spoken by an Indigenous Australian.
Choose one of the statements and illustrate it. Write it as a caption underneath (using the
Indigenous language), and see if someone can work out which statement you chose to draw.
Challenge! See if you can work out how to speak the statement that you chose to write about!

INDIGENOUS RESEARCH
CULTURAL BELIEFS
INVESTIGATING INDIGENOUS FOOD… As part of our studies into early Indigenous life, we made some delicious kangaroo stew… Here are some photos…

Reminder to students that they will be writing an information report on museum visit and, as such, will need to take notes during general exhibition tour. Students will build on their knowledge of Aboriginal cultures (continuing and ancestral) and the relationships between those cultures. In developing a greater awareness of this cultural and linguistic heritage they will gain an appreciation of the interdependence of land, language and culture. Aboriginals Study activity: Revision of knowledge gained: The differences between coastal and desert Aboriginals. Gained understanding of Indigenous connection with the land and their sustainable and renewable practices.

CLOUDS OF WONDER….
IMPACT ON INDIGENOUS PEOPLES What was the nature of contact between the indigenous people and others? Write about it from the perspective of either an Indigenous, convict, settler etc… Reading to Learn: ROBJ: 1,2,5,6,9
VENN DIAGRAM:
ABORIGINALS When the First Fleet came to Australia the Aboriginals were scared but thought they would go away but when they didn’t, that’s when the Aboriginals got really scared. Then Aboriginals started to die and so did the English men and to top it off the Aboriginals got infected with smallpox which killed lots of the Aboriginals. The first fleet and the Aboriginals didn’t really work out.
DIGITAL TIME TRAVELLERS‌ ď ś Students will be able to find locations on map using longitude and latitude: begin mapping and investigating significant sites around the local area. (Mosman Park Map) Investigate different assigned areas. Using these investigations, students will create History Pin clips using Movie Maker 3.

PLANNING MATH CLUES‌ ď ś Analemmatic sundials are fairly rare things, (also known as analemmic sundials, or sundials of human involvement), you use your own shadow to read the time. There is a figure 8 pattern of the months on the ground, indicating where to stand at different times of the year. Here you can see us checking it out!

Analemmatic Dial
Ellipse of hour points.
What is an analemmatic sundial?
An analemmatic sundial is a particular kind of horizontal sundial in which the shadow-
ng object is vertical, and is moved depending on the date, or to be more precise,
ending on the declination of the sun on a given day. The time is read from the dial by
ng where the shadow cast by the vertical pin crosses hour points laid out on an ellipse.
e make the dial on the ground and large enough, we can use the shadow cast by a
on. This makes it very different from the traditional sundial we see often in parks and
ens where the shadow is cast by a triangular shaped wedge. The analemmatic sundial is
ect as a piece of large mathematical sculpture.

PLANNING MATH CLUES… We also incorporated Caesar Cyphers and Monoalphabetic Cyphers based on the Enigma coding machines used during the 2nd World War. Here is an example.
