Vida Goldstein was born in 1869 and had a good education thanks to her mum.

Vida’s father was opposed to women's rights so she went door to door with her mother collecting signatures for a monster petition for women to be able to vote.

Vida had many offers for marriage but said no to all of them. She was too busy trying to help women get a vote in federation.

Vida wanted all people to share equally in the world's wealth and to live in peace. She hoped to be prime minister and in 1903 and stood for election to the federal parliament, she was the first woman stand for prime minister.

Vida Goldstein tried many times to become prime minister but she did not succeed. Every time she did not win she said “Defeated but not disheartened.
