FLOODABLE RESILIENCE +in REMEMBRANCE CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA
CEDAR RAPIDS, IA
TIME CHECK NEIGHBORHOOD
TIME CHECK MEMORIAL The Flood of 2008 was unprecedented in Cedar Rapids, IA, reaching heights well beyond the 500-yr floodplain and affecting seven states across the Midwest. In Cedar Rapids, water covered nearly 14% of the city; it has often been termed Iowa’s Katrina. In response, the city is constructing a flood management strategy to protect again another disaster. Though this solution protects the city, there are both large and small scale consequences for such a measure. My project focuses on the issue of neighborhood erasure in order to make room for the “greenway.”
