HILL WEST SPORT SPRING 1 2015 Due to the weather, this half term has been a quiet one. Most of it has seen both our Y6 boys and girls in competitive football action. Over the last few weeks, Year 5 have loved going to Arthur Terry for Tennis lessons and Year 1 have relished the opportunity t o be coached by Aston Villa Football Club. Finally, Year 2 enjoyed watching year 5 perform their gymnastic routines in an intra-school sharing opportunity.

Y6 Football Team - HMS Shield Hill West Primary School has been selected, along with only two other Sutton Primary Schools, to play in the Birmingham HMS Shield. Our first match took place against The Meadows Primary in Northfield. After a long 45-minute journey along the M6, our voyage was complete and it was time for action. After we’d parked our minibus, which took a considerable amount of time, the squad marched on to the pitch, receiving scowls from our opposition – The Meadows. A short warm-up followed and in the blink of an eye the referee blew his whistle to kick off the game. A sharp start as our star striker, Kahrel, who ran at The Meadows defence with Owen and Jamie at his side and just inches off the target. Later on in the half, Paul Maguire, the gaffer, made a change - bringing Owen off and replacing him with Ryan. This proved to be a crucial move as Ryan picked up the ball on the edge of the box and made a sharp turn with a deadly finish into the bottom right corner; game on! The referee was soon blowing his whistle to mark the beginning of the second half and we were off. A quick burst of pace from Kahrel left Owen the simple job of putting the ball in the back of the net. Another goal would follow for no other than Kahrel with him finally putting away a well deserved goal. The rest of the game was mostly a passing master class until a clumsy passing error would be taken advantage of by the opposition. The match ended as 3-1 - a fantastic start as we close in on a spot in the final of the Birmingham HMS Shield (The oldest junior cup competition in the UK). Written by the Hill West Football Team
