HILL WEST SPORT Autumn 2016 It’s been a fantastic start to the new school year at Hill West, with lots of exciting events happening across the school. All children who have represented the school so far have done an amazing job! The Year 6 football team began their football season in fighting style. Year 3 and 4 had a successful multi-sports event and we have welcomed Veseyans Rugby Club in to work with Y6. As well as all that, we have continued to use the Sports funding money to develop the love of sport.

Year 5 Trip to Aberdovey Year 5 had a wonderful week full of excitement and adventure at Aberdovey. It was jam packed with lots of activities for the children to try such as: abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing, walking and orienteering. Many children really pushed themselves to try new things and over come some real fears! This is an amazing opportunity for our children to really grow, work on team work and cooperation.

Pupil Spotlight - William Hume (Year 6) Hi, my name is Will and I play cricket at Four Oaks CC near Hill West. I feel that I have improved significantly at this club as when I started I didn’t even know how to bowl properly and I now know everything from an over to an inning. I have really started to fall in love with this sport. I have previously been to the Indoor Cricket World Championships with this inspiring club. This sport is very under-estimated and more people should try it out. There are many sized bats and many different weighted balls therefore, many ages can try this wonderful sport out. Thanks William Hume

Y6 Football Team

Being in the Hill West football team has been a great experience. With an excellent coach Mr Maguire leading us to success in the three games that we have played. Our first game was against Bannersgate at home. With our team all fired up, it would be very hard to lose. We kicked off and they went on the attack and scored 1-0 to Bannersgate. Hill West were reluctant to give up and we scored. The final score was 5-2 to Hill West. We were very proud of ourselves and a very happy coach. Our second match was against Wylde Green away from home. All fired after our victory, we were on fire with lots of goals. We kicked off and ‌ they scored!10 but not head in hands. We struck back. Unfortunately, they scored and won 2-1.

Our last game before Christmas was against Deanery away. We could not afford to lose this match. Hill West started the match well and shot s went whizzing past the post and bar. Just as it looked like they were about to concede the inevitable happened they scored with a close range shot. After a fine team talk, we were pumped and we started well however our luck was out, as they scored. From then on we could not score and the game ended 2-0 to Deanery. Overall, the time so far has been a very enjoyable experience. Written by Alex Heirbaut Kitteridge and Adam Taylor

Cross Country Results Race 2 - Bishop Vesey 11.10.15 Only the top 6 boys and top 4 girls for each team had their places scored and totaled to give their team a score. The winning team is the team with the least number of points. For league races, the teams get points for the place where they finish, which determines the end result after three races. Hill West had at least 6 boys and 6 girls, from Y4-6, running in each race. They represented Hill West well and really did the school proud. As you can see from our results Hill West have done fantastic, we can’t wait to see how they do in the new year. Good Luck! The next race is on March 13th. Look out the Spring Sports newsletter for the result!

Wilson Stuart Active Society We have also signed up to the Wilson Stuart Active Society for another year as it has proved to be very successful. This has allowed many children from our school to take part in a whole host of events in the last term. I am very excited to see how we do next term, with the many competitions and events we have signed up to.
